Being static as cavalry in MP (skirmish) is a good way to die if the other rider is even semi-competent. The rearing up feature took control away from the player completely and there was nothing you could if say a friendly cav rode in front of you and griefed you.

Actually many the conquered almost always aided the conquerors in future conflicts towards neighbouring or even their own -cultures-, either willingly or not.
