This thread and whole arty argument is going round and round in circles. I'm simply going to quote PAIN here. It's in Cali's sig but here it is again.
Pain:
Arty's are far from being unbalanced so there's no plans to nerf them. Reducing the number of Arty's in high tier matches where they are the most powerful is something that we've considered but we're not seeing large number of Arty's being played in those matches. Arty's are a way for players to play the game in a completely different way. Some player only ever play Arty's so removing them is not an option. I'd like to find a way to change the Arty viewpoint so its more realistic but that's one of those "some day" tasks I haven't gotten to yet.
I have issues with this.
First, why does being balanced or not decide whether something should be nerfed or not. I could put in a piece of equipment that immediately lets me choose one tank on the enemy team to die. I could still lose 50% of my games and it would be balanced so by WG logic it would be fine. But it's not, it's bloody unfair and not fun.
Second, it doesn't matter if there is 5 or 1 enemy artillery in a tier X game, one is enough to ruin at least 2 or 3 peoples games. And I don't know how you are not seeing a large amount of artillery in high tier games, I am lucky to get about 2/10 games without artillery anymore.
Third, "Some players only play Arty so removing them is not an option". Yet you are removing other tanks that people just might play exclusively. If I started playing the FV215b exclusively would you consider not removing it then? Yes I know you are replacing it with something else but that's besides the point. It wouldn't be difficult to refund people with silver and exp for their artillery at all. But this is an extreme option, I don't ask for artillery to be removed, heck not even nerfed.
All I ask is for our options to counter artillery be improved. I want the Spall Liner to be FAR more effective. 30% damage reduction on 1k damage is still 700 damage. That's nearly half my T-62a's health anyways(Not 100% sure if that's how much the spall liner negates on the T-62a anyways, cba looking), not to mention it will probably destroy my gun and tracks anyways making the damage part moot. I think we could buff the Spall Liner to allow it to negate module/crew damage from artillery shots, and 50% reduction in damage, increasing through the tiers(As it does now). Enhanced Suspension, I still get my tracks blown off to hell by artillery every time even with this AND Spall Liner. Buff the Enhanced Suspension to negate arty splash damage on tracks. Before anyone dares to scream "omg that would be OP" think about it, these are secondary equipment choices compared to the rammer, GLD, vert stab, camo/binos/optics for most tanks.
The maps need revamped to make far more artillery safe locations that you can still fight other tanks from. The only places this is possible so far are maps like Cliff and Mountain Pass where there is a big bloody mountain in the way. Yeah, go ahead and make open maps like Prokorovka and Malinovka exist, but give us more rocks and stuff to use as cover. It's all very well saying play arty safe but there are very few spots where I can be 100% safe from artillery but still able to have an impact on the game. And people are right before when they say that if arty is intended to kill those who sit still all game why is it more effective playing a TD-esque role by pre aiming down a lane of attack and hitting someone the moment they peek out to have a shot.
