    BUG--Battle Of Aescesdun

Luckily I do save in a couple of different slots intermittently just in case, so I had a save to go back to. The solution offered where you buy the cattle and bring them over before you take the quest worked for me without any problems.

    story campaign / meeting solveig

I've noticed that the first time the ambush plays, after I kill all the assassins she won't talk to me or join my party. I have to reload to an earlier save to get it to play out properly.
Had this same thing happen 2-3 times now as I've made a couple different characters.

    BUG--Battle Of Aescesdun

I'm in the same boat as the OP, nothing I've done has made the quest succeed. Tried having them (the cattle) follow me up to the camp, tried telling them to stop outside the camp, tried telling them to stop inside the camp. Nothing happens.

This is with the beta patch.

What is the main reason for the low FPS count?

For me it seems to be an issue with the memory leak, as my fps will be fine at first, fall after a while, and then rise back up dramatically if I simply restart the game. Don't know if that's your problem though.

    Has anyone killed the troll?

    Kjertesvein 说:
I killed him just like Beowulf killed Grendel, naked.

The troll is very strong and fast, so I took off all my armor to make myself agile and less prone to fatigue. The Troll also have no shields and his club only have 112 range. This means he is vulnerable to range attacks. With 1 bundle of throwing spears and a spear I managed to kill him.

I killed Orm with 1 single javelin to the face. I was like this:  after he fell to the ground.

That's cheating! Beowulf didn't use no *****-ass *****-ass throwing spears. Now you go make a new character and go punch the troll to death to make up for this besmirching of his good name.

    Weapon Damage

I've noticed this as well, I'm frequently knocking people out with cutting damage attacks like an axe swing or a spear stab which is unusual.

I could see it being intentional - maybe they want to represent how not every wound is fatal? But the rate definitely seems too high.

Another thing to consider is that there aren't many blunt damage weapons in the game atm. So it'd be hard to capture prisoners otherwise.

It doesn't work in scenes (for example the naval assault on Doccinga), maybe that's your problem. Not sure if that's a bug or a limitation of the engine.

Brytenwalda had/has this same issue. Some scenes you can't use the F4-F5... menu

Pretty much every mod with formations has this afaik.

    Capturing ships?

Personally I like the current capture rate. It makes it a little more special when you do capture one, like finding high-end loot after a battle.

    Relation to the commoners.

I assumed it increased your relation with villages, or maybe with that specific town. I think the latter is how that works in other mods.

Couched Lance Damage - Lances in Viking Conquest

    Redleg 说:
Do you even know what a strawman argument is?  I don't know where you think the sense of "butthurt" comes from since most of the arguments pro-Danish axe were mostly ahistorical and unconvincing.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man
And I don't know why you'd come in here and mock a completely irrelevant argument in a completely irrelevant thread for any reason -other- than butthurt, but whatever you say. I don't care to get back into this argument since the devs have already said they'd implement something eventually which is enough for me.

The Bayeaux tapestry is one piece of historical evidence, albeit a depiction of a battle that occurred, rather than a first-hand historical account.  It is only a piece of the overall puzzle in understanding the battle.

Yes, thus "and other depictions." I never claimed otherwise.

Having said that, to make both sides of the argument happy, couldn't we mod the axe attributes so that it could be used either 1- or 2-handed, thus giving the player the choice of how to wield it?  I think this would be a reasonable solution and might help us move on to other issues about the game that we can agree on.  Pax.

I'm kind of torn on this suggestion. On the one hand I enjoy the hand-and-a-half mechanic. On the other, I'd rather have that alternate slot be filled by the ability to throw your axe.

[Feedback] Some suggestions for the future

wouldn't it be as simple as causing a penalty to your "christian" value or whatever it is, then once that value gets low enough you take a relation penalty with people/factions/cities etc tagged as christian?

Couched Lance Damage - Lances in Viking Conquest

    Redleg 说:
    F.F.C._fritz 说:
Historically, you shouldn't be able to find such a weapon in Viking Conquest. That way of using the lance started spreading in Britain a couple of centuries later, with the Norman invasion, maybe even a bit after - to be absolutely sure, I'd say XII century. After all, cavalry in the IX century was not as developed as it was during the native Warband XIII century.

I may be wrong quoting a later source from the Norman invasion, but if I recall correctly, that how cavalry probably used their lances/spear back then, over the head.

    1310906836_1077-dtail-de-la-broderie-de-bayeux-detail-of-the-embroidery-of-bayeux.jpg

I think you're right about this.  I have read a great deal about the Battle of Hasting and to my knowledge, the Norman cavalry did not couch their spears at that time.

The only problem with relying on historical evidence is that someone will insist that since it is intuitive to couch a spear, warriors from the 9th century would have done so, the same way that they would figure out how to put an axe head on a long pole and wield it with 2 hands.  This ought to get the debate fired up again!

ah, the ol' "butthurt strawman referencing a completely different thread" argument

this case is a little different since we actually -have- evidence (the bayeux tapestry and other depictions showing lances being used in combat with a different technique that would be pretty unmistakeable for couching) and we aren't relying purely on an archaeological gap, plus couching IS somewhat unintuitive since most likely you would lose your lance by doing it

    Bow+Arrows Damage BUFF needed!

I would suggest something different here.

Make unique set of rules for SP and MP

Dont change MP cause SP. And dont mess with our sandbox cause MP is bad in some way. Thats a terrible way to handle a game balance and it just breaks the community in two.

that's fair. my point was more that it's a little more important to balance MP, since the player has less control over how he wants to play it
  15. Grimes

    Right to Rule

at the end of story mode it swaps to sandbox mode now, so can't you just do it then?

    Bow+Arrows Damage BUFF needed!

it's particularly noticeable in MP and i think that's where the focus should be in terms of game balance since players are powerless to change things there. there's no power draw for you to level up or anything like that. go take a a bow and arrow in viking invasion and just shoot down on people...it takes like 4-5 shots just to take down an enemy archer who's only wearing cloth. and if you're hitting people wearing chainmail, then you just plain won't do damage.

a great example of how little you do vs chainmail: once i was an acher and i came upon one of the last stragglers at the end of a round, stuck in a wall. chainmail wearing noble. i sat there pumping arrows into his face, point blank, not even staggering him. i went through 10+ before a guy with a spear came along and finished him off so i don't even know how many it would've taken altogether to do the job. you're 100% useless as an archer.
