  1. Dialogues - is addressing 'sir' proper for the period?

"Sir" does not have a translation in modern Norwegian which is one of the languages that evolved from Old West Norse, and I believe its the same in Swedish and Danish as well. It does simply not have a corresponding word in those languages, and thus probably not in Old Norse either. From what I can read out of the Eddas and other sagas, one used their names, not titles, to adress people. Also those of importance. But I am neither a linguist nor historian, so I could be wrong.

However, the game is in english, so some leeway must be given to keep a consistent language.
  2. Couched Lance Damage - Lances in Viking Conquest

With some practise you can still one-shot ship captains with a longspear while mounted, works like a charm.
  3. Have the devs given reason for the bad quality of this dlc?

Threads like these are akin to that annoying kid who wont stop laughing at someone who stepped into a puddle of canine droppings, long after everyone else stopped thinking it funny. And keeps bringing it up at every party ever.

Taleworlds apologized, the Brytenwalda team apologized, and hotfixes were out less than 24 hours post release. Less than a week later, a patch that fixes most issues and introduces new features is about to be released. Thats like buying a car that (for my part) used too much fuel and occasionaly did not start at the first try, and having both the salesman, his supervisor and a bunch of mechanics coming over to my garage and fix it free of charge, plus installing a new radio and option for a GPS as compensation for the inconvinience it caused me.

At that point it would just not be right to persist and rant about how I want a full explanation of why the car did not run as expected the first few days. They botched the release, and are now working what seems like 24 hour shifts to fix it and introduce new features. Let it go.
  4. On relations and paganism

So no relation penalty for just being Pagan? (that increase over time anyway)

I have not gotten to the point where I have attacked a settlement other than abbeys and villages, but is it possible to pillage towns the same way you pillage a monestary? If not, is it a possible future feature? It would add a neat challenge to gather a fleet, loot Lundene, and set sail again.
  5. On relations and paganism

I would just like to confirm or reject an observation i have made during the game. As a norse pagan character, I seem to lose relations with christian settlements regardles of whether I am raiding villages/abbeys or not. Is is the case that the player over time lose relations with characters and...
  6. Your personal Viking Conquest rating (X out of 10)

8/10 as it stands now, likely higher when optimized. I don't play MP, so my experience comes entirely from SP.

+ Realism. While horned helmets and double-headed axes in fantasy games are good fun, it's refreshing to see an actual viking era game for once. The fact that you can do well even in only cloth pleases me greatly
+ The Story Mode. It's immersive, you have a stake in your future, you face choices that can vary radically with different characters (you can replay the game as a ruthless marauder if you opted for the nice guy on the first playthrough, or vice versa), and the characters you encounter have believeable personalities (most of them anyway). Snake-in-Eye is one mean and intimidating bastard.
    + Beards. Finally!
+ Longships. I can roam the seas as trader and raider. And the satisfaction of starting with a snekkja, trade and raid my way to buying larger and better ships alone is worth the 11? Euroes i paid. I squeeled like a princess who got new shoes when I managed to buy an oaken Busse named Ormur Langi. I guess Mr. Tryggvason will have to find another ship, mnehehehe.
+ Trading & raiding. Great fun, even more so than in Brytenwalda. Trading from a Longship just has a better feel to it than peddling silver from Wales to Mercia.
+ Naval combat. Hands down the best naval combat since Corsairs Gold. There is nothing like besting a superiour force through clever manouvers and seamanship.

    - There are still some bugs that needs to be squashed, AI that needs improvement and graphics to be optimized.
    - Some more features could be included. For instance it would be awesome if enemy ships could be captured through naval combat (in damaged condition and not too frequently to avoid financial imbalances of course). Trading could also need some tweaking, and a greater variety in equipment appearence would add much to the experience. An expanded 'Pimp My Boat' feature would be neat too.

In all a great DLC despite a botched release. I hope work on it will continue, as it has the potential for a truly epic experience.
  7. Moving Court

    Monestaries
  8. Why does brytenwalda have more content than this?

As Lav says: Brytenwalda is a free mod, this is a commercial DLC. Many of the features that are in Brytenwalda are also found in other Warband mods and are developed by the community, for instance Freelancing and Diplomacy. Thus they can't be included without a rather complex legal framework. The good news is of course that when people start to make mods for VC, these features can easily be included, in addition to all the new features that VC has introduced.
  9. Troops not leveling

WAD. Troop levels are much higher in VC than in Native. Just like in Brytenwalda.
  10. Dear TaleWorlds

So far I have only been lurking the forums, and I am one of those people who got incredibly excited when the news of this DLC was announced at the Brytenwalda subforums, and I did not hesitate for one second to per-order it on Steam. When it was released last thursday I got on right away and started to play. And I was thrilled. The storyline (so far, I'm only back from a certain monestary) is immersive with tricky choices, naval combat is fantastic with awesomesauce on top and the weapons and armour makes it feel like I am actually in the early viking age and not some pseudo-fantasy hollywood clichè-fest. Sure, the horses I looked at did not have texture, and there is this one coward in every army who sits at the spawn point until you go and give him a good spanking, but the greatest disappointment to me as both a long time gamer, and indeed an adult human being, is a certain segment of those who post on this forum.

I still find it hard to understand the level of bile and negativity that is spewn at both Taleworlds and the VC team. Yes, the release was bad for a lot of people. Yes, there were bugs that should have been squashed long before release. But contrary to what one could expect from larger studios and dev teams, they have acknowledged the faults, made and unconditional apology and gone straight to work to fix what was broken. Seriously, you are bashing a team who are doing everything they can to repair their product, and they are doing it fast. Have you ever experienced that kind of customer service anywhere else? I know I haven't.

You have every right to be disappointed in the product you bought, and I firmly believe that there should be the option to get a refund. But you do not need to act like a bunch of cry-babies. Grow up. Ask for a refund and end it there. Or even better, be constructive and point out the bugs as you find them. It's not that hard to show some common courtesy, even on the Internet.
