  1. "The sun greets you early in the morning and sends you to bed at night."

While I was on my adventure I had a pop-up message saying "The sun greets you early in the morning and sends you to bed at night.". There was nothing I can do other than clicking "continue". And nothing happened afterwards. Initially I thought it might be a random event. I previously had random...
  2. Does Floris affect polearm penalty rules?

Good question. Does anyone have the answer?

So I could be wasting precious points?

    1) you will have more points than you know what to do with them

    2) companions can get hurt, go missing, go in a mission, etc, which means you lose their skills too

    3) depends on the situation, to know a specific case you will need to look at the game code. That is how Warband was created, and not different from most games (where numbers are not very clear to the player)

so if you want to mix/max you will need to learn about modding. That is ONE way to play the game, not the only one. Most players don't care about specific numbers.
Thank you kalarhan. Reading the whole thread helped me understand skills a lot.
  4. SP Dark Ages [Submod] Blood Eagle-A Viking Conquest overhaul (released 3.0)

Blood Eagle Patch Version 2.2 is up at Nexus!
Hi HooTmAn! I've played Warband (with Silverstag) for a while but am new to VC. I am so glad to see an overhaul project under active development despite the seemingly lackluster sub-forum. The selfish part of me secretly wish there could be more competitions but I really cannot ask for more. I'll give the vanilla VC a go first since from what I have read modding/tweaking can easily break the "story mode" of VC. But I cannot wait to test your overhaul mod out!

  5. Does sharpshooter ability help siege crossbow user?

Siege Crossbow has an accuracy rating of 99. Does that mean Sharpshooter Ability has no effect on player? In other words, can accuracy rating in Warband exceed 99? I notice that after I press down Shift, the crosshair of a siege crossbow isn't a perfect dot (my proficiency is 200+). Thanks.
  6. Feedback -Swadia&Nords

    Windyplains 说:
Nords have one as a unique.  Swadia has one as a tier 1 affiliated unit.
Wait.. So supply man actually do what they're meant to do!
I am sorry I completely ignored those tier 1 units. I hired some militias even for the intro mission.
Great units for me! I was so paranoid for Katrin to get hurt in an siege. I even created a "supply group" to tell her and my surgeon to always keep shields on and stay out of the combat.
  7. Feedback -Swadia&Nords

    Windyplains 说:
It should probably be done in very small numbers for all of the uniques.  I did not want the AI having tons of easy uniques while the player struggles to obtain them.  One thing to keep in mind is that Swadia also enjoys several force improving units while the Nords do not.  Dhirim captains, Suno master archers and supply runners specifically.
Does Swadian actually have supply runner? I checked the troop reference yesterday night and none of Swadian's special unit has that ability, while Nords has a "xxx maiden" (sorry I forgot the exact name) unit which is indeed a supply runner.
  8. Disappearing Troops?

    Marinxar 说:
Probably not impossible, just improbable... Far over a thousand hours in-game and then it happens twice in a week and only in one mod. I been playing Silverstag, a New Dawn, Perisno, Brytenwalda, Viking Conquest, Rigale and Phosphor primarily.
Not sure about all those mods you mentioned, but it happens to me even in native M&B (not even native Warband).
  9. On Messing Up

New player here, hopefully able to load up the first time tonight.

First, I greatly appreciate the import/export feature for fixing PC and Companions. Knowing little more than Wiki reading, are there any pitfalls I should avoid - permanent or difficult to recover mistakes? My goal is total map domination.

    Thanks!
Don't let your level (I don't know if companion's matter) be higher than 62. I once read somewhere that this will cause a overflow glitch and instantly boost your level to something above 2k,  which will result in ridiculous amount of bandits in village battle.
  10. Suggestion: Marry a claimant (An alternative approach)

    Windyplains 说:
It is a feature of the diplomacy mod which has never been included within Silverstag's design.  It's a fun idea, but the amount of module system reworking that would be involved would be staggering.  Diplomacy opted for the "you become the monarch" to make it less so by putting you into an already designed position (faction leader).  There is no current game support for a "co-leader" which means every interaction that looks at leaders would need to also reference the spouse.
It is nice to see you back to this forum Windy! I have missed seeing your posts and updates!
To clarify, I am not suggesting anything like "co-ruler" as I believe that claimants intend to retain their sole sovereign power upon marriage. What I'm suggesting is something merely like "The Queen's Husband" (which saves the work to tamper with current dialogue).

I have to admit that my idea is inspired by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. I did a bit search on it and I guess the most accurate (and gender neutral) term for such position is a Royal Consort (Wikipedia Page).

And here's a portion of my original post, including some brief ideas of what kind of power such "Royal Consort" may have:
    moonrgr 说:
However, I am not suggesting merely copying what Diplomacy is currently offering (marry a claimant and you instantly seize the sovereign power). As all claimants, including female ones, are actively seeking sovereign power and it makes no sense to me that they'll voluntarily give up such power upon marriage. My suggestions are:
    1. Giving player limited power to influence the sovereign, like limited access to Kingdom management upon conversation. However, this apparently is the hardest one which requires considerable code works, making it basically unrealistic.
    2. Giving player nothing but the regular benefit of marrying a noble woman. This should be the easiest option to implement. However, given that claimants have no family(other than you), it will make such marriage worse than any other ones.
    3. Instead of using the claimant's family, use the "supporters" of claimants. The easiest (and the most stable) way to determine supporters is through lord's personalities. We can either assume all supporters for a new Sovereign are some given types based on each claimant's (story-based)personality, or determine the personality based on player's choice during the rebellion (when being asked about "Why do you support the usurper?"). Though the latter will apparently need more code works to be done.
    4. Giving players some benefits that can be easily implemented. Like permanent Marshallship(as was featured in classic M&B) or higher tolerance level for controversy. This can be used in combination with any of the above options.
Update: In regard to "permanent Marshallship/higher tolerance level for controversy", here's a real-world example: Prince Philip receives Navy title for 90th birthday

    Cheers,

  11. Suggestion: Marry a claimant (An alternative approach)

    Leifdin 说:
I don't know, it existed back in Floris, but it was quite difficult to get it. I wanted to be a king of Nords so I just changed their claimant's gender to female and it worked. Dialogues didn't accept that change, but it doesn't really matter.
Then I guess it doesn't exist in Silverstag any more. I double-checked and confirmed that it's a feature of Diplomacy.
  12. Favorite Total Remake mod?

Just finished up Gekokujo and am now looking for the next experience.  Have also played Brytenwalda and VC, but didn't, in the end, finish those.

If I wanted a mod that:
    - Performed very well with high battle size numbers, with good, balanced troop trees  and a nice battle AI that produce interesting and challenging battles, with good battle terrain (relatively flat).
    - Had an improved focus on a more consistent and improved economy
    - Had an improved campaign AI (lords not running away when in a group so easily) and logical declarations of war (not halfway across the map except unless supporting an ally, and then actually sending help)      etc.
    - Had a scaling difficulty in the endgame: factions that are runaway and upstart get pounded on by the others who might cease their hostilities to take care of the bad boy
    - Would feel "finished" and stable, and internally sound

What would I pick?  I'm looking at Blood & Steel, Sword of Damocles and Prophesy of Pendor right now, but there might be others - Native map mods are also welcome.
As far as I know Silverstag is the only mod that basically put AI lords at the same place as you. They recruit new troops using the same method you use, and they can build improvements in their fiefs just as you can.
  13. Favorite Total Remake mod?

Silverstag! It looks like a native re-polished, but that's NOT the case.

    Leifdin 说:
Have you ever tried marrying a claimant?
Haha haven't tried yet! The Wikia says that marrying the claimant is not a original feature and as far as I know Diplomacy is the only mod that adds it.
Are you suggesting that this feature actually EXISTS in Silverstag!
  15. Suggestion: Marry a claimant (An alternative approach)

Hi! Thanks for reading my post! I really love Silverstag and I am thinking about the option to marry a claimant: 1. Given the age of most claimants, it is reasonable that they'll be actively seeking a spouse when their claim to the throne is settled/nearly settled. 2. Marrying into power is a...
  16. DLing Silverstag

    KidKoala 说:
The only gripes I have are in the late game stage (above 400 days) where the lords end up juggling so much and all towns have mercenary chapter houses, this can often lead to fighting stupidly large amounts of high tear mercenary units e.g. After beating a lords party 100 of my troops left against 60 of theirs in the final bout I thought I was certain to win until 60 mercenary cavalry spawned and absolutly obliterated my 100 high tier nord force with their lances

I really hope the AI lords recruiting armies of mercs issue is addressed, it's not very realistic when you see a sarranid lord fielding an army of Nordic Raiders around Durquba. My own personal solution has been to nerf mercenary units in my own game by making hired blades and mercenary cavalry have mismatched leeather/light main armour and swords.
I wouldn't recommend nerf units like Hired Blades as it would really limit those mercenary-loving players. What I would suggest is to add "Veteran Mercenary", and make mercenary chapter house have a fixed weekly possibility of converting regular mercenary recruits into veteran versions.(It can also be based on the training ground or even your guard master. Yea, who says mercenaries can't use the training ground! Their lives rely upon their skills and they have tons of money.  )

Yes.  Though work is taking up all of my time of late and will be for at least another several weeks.  Leifdin has continued work on finishing up the faction overhaul.
There is no set date for the next version update at this time.

As of my part, Khergits are finished as troops, now I need to make sure that lords use them etc.

Also that band of mercenaries that you hire do they just follow you? Can I give them any tasks can I tell them they are fired?
    No.Yes.Yes.
You can choose to station them at your garrison. Give them to other lords. Disband them in the fields (effectively "annihilate" them). Or disband them in any fief (turn them back to mercenary recruit).
