What the flying **** is happening here? I go off the forums for years, and anchor-lemon has been doing his idiocy the whole time?

Popping round for my occasional visit, and I feel old looking at this thread... I was barely active on most of the forum, and mostly posted in the art threads, got into a few arguments, and ghosted around the mods section.
So much has happened since...

Sorry for the wait on the reply - those were my first time playing with something called adobe capture, it's a photo to vector thingamie.

I took them with my phone from my sketchbook, and just let the program do its thing, then took them back to jpegs. It's free, and I got it while I was chatting with some of my family who also does art.


I think that if I use it to mix together that with scans of the image, I could do something interesting, get both the shading that this skips over entirely and have these as the 'inked' parts that I normally suck at choosing. Here I can look at it and see if an area works as 'ink' or not, and go from there.

Here's a closer shot of one of the faces on the page, that also went through the 'smooth' option. I like my freaky elf lady.

Recently my dreams have turned to the dark.... Suits my mood most of the time I guess.

Last week I dreamt I was sitting in the bath, watching my left forearm bleed as I conducted the invisible orchestra with the knife in my right hand.

This week, so far, I dreamt the carrying out of a murder of a certain person I utterly despise. I entered his house in the middle of the night, waited for him to go into a room by himself. I stepped up behind him and pulled a knife from ear to ear under his chin all the way to the bone, then posed him on a chair and drew a circle on his forehead with his blood.

I woke up then with a killer headache. Dreams when you are dehydrated and far too warm are bad...

Especially for the feedback - I know I need to work on shading, I have been putting off actually doing the work to actually learn how for far to long. Basic anatomy I am far better than I was, and getting to the point where even if I am doing something wrong, I now know what I am doing wrong so it's just a matter of adjustment, rather than cluelessness, if that makes sense.

I'll be scanning some more in a day or so, just in the middle of a cleanup of my shelves, so, well.....

Hey guys, long time since I've posted anything, so here's a crap-ton of stuff, brought on by my getting of an A3 scanner (finally!) and scanning some old (and a couple not-so-old) sketchbooks.





It's taken a bit of fiddling to get to a contrast and brightness levels balance that I'm happy with, next I'm gonna tackle scanning in colour, which so far has just produced very bright images. Luckily, I got a good scanner with easily understandable preferences. I just need to go through them.

Edited to add - I crapped out, can't be bothered scanning and adding more stuff here, you'll just have to adjust a crapton to mean 4 pics. Cheerioooooos!!

In answer to the original question - there are many documents from the medieval era, of which the easiest to study in english relate to the english militia and commisions of array.

In england, each district (I can't remember exactly the names, shire, parish, county maybe?) was assessed and supposed to be able to provide a certain number of trained men, with a minimum of supplies for a given amount of time.

The retinues of the noblemen were another source of manpower, and they were usually the better trained.

This system extended into what is now france as at the time they were considered as much 'england' as the england of the british isles - the modern notion of land=nation/state was practically non existent in much of europe, rather it was 'to whom do we bear allegiance'.
