The no firing out of formation rule should only be used when its only lines involved, otherwise skirmishers and cavalry gain a huge and unfair advantage. I believe that the no firing out of formation/in the charge rules leads to more tactical battles. It doesnt mean regiments stand on hills and fire at each other for the FULL round. It takes some skill to get your regiment close enough using different maneuvers and tactics. But I dont see why there is a fuss brewing over this rule anyway.
- Also note that the no firing in the charge rule is becoming more popular for a reason, people clearly enjoy it more.
