  2. Rhodok inderict boost?

Rhodoks can stop cavalry fine, it's the whole part where they gotta kill the dude that was on the horse that they suck at.

The thrusting polearms really just suck simply because they don't do nearly enough damage and, unless you have Athletics 10 and 50 Agility, you are only going to get one hit until the guy is within your "minimum range".

I pumped the damage on a all of the spears and pikes (shortened spear, spear, war spear, pike, awlpike, ashwood pike) to double what it was before and give them a speed bonus and removing the shield bonus.  They were still far from usable simply due to the minimum range problem, although even at low proficiencies they could normally dish out a 1 hit kill.

Polearms are just really ****ty on foot.
  3. Mount and Blade 2

It'd be nice if the sequel was still Medieval but had multiple land masses rather than just one, but still having combat focused on land and not sea.  Maybe rather than sea based combat there could be port towns that would control transportation from one land mass to another.
  4. Rhodok inderict boost?

The only thing less frightening than a Polish revolt is a French revolt, and maybe a Canadian one too.
  5. How did "you" find out about M&B?

I heard about it from your mother.

That was back in the days when we still had the pistol in Zendar. I'd been given the game burned on a CD along with an activation key by a friend, and I was so impressed with it that I decided to buy it.

...is what I'd like to say, but unfortunately it's not true. We did have the pistol back then, and I was pointed to it by a friend, but by one who never actually played it himself. I played it cracked for a while, then when I didn't get bored of it after a few weeks and saw that the devs seemed really committed to completing the game (as opposed to abandoning it, as unfortunately often happens to ambitious and innovative indie projects) I bought it.

Hopefully more game developers will be inspired to make good games like this one.  I often find games to be so rushed out for deadlines that they are riddled with bugs and other random crap  :???:

polearms dont suck.. spears pikes and lances are the one who suck when your on foot.. actually a glaive or something similllar is a very good weapon for hand-to-hand comban when on foot.. you probably just dont know how to use them : )

Lances I can understand sucking on foot; they are meant to be used on horseback.  Spears and Pikes on the other hand should not suck on foot.  And by saying that you proved my point...  the Rhodoks suck because of their weapons, which are mostly Spears and Pikes...
  7. Great news from the module_system .960

Sweet, I can't wait to make Nords and Rhodoks not suck.
  8. Rhodok inderict boost?

Actually I think the reason Native Rhodoks die so quickly is because they have 0 Ironflesh, where most other infantry have about 2-3.

However, the reason Rhodoks suck is because they have polearms and unfortunately polearms suck once the enemy gets up to your face.
  9. SP Native Fix for Rhodoks. (New Version for Warband) Updated: 4/21/2010

I've seen it there as well, but I think it's just an unused troop; kind of like Faction Messengers or Rhodok Veteran Crossbowman.
  10. SP Native Fix for Rhodoks. (New Version for Warband) Updated: 4/21/2010

So that means the game won't be getting updated until September?  Hopefully we'll get source code for the Module System.
  11. Poll: Ranged troops for Nords?

I'm truly surprised on how even the voting options 1 and 2 are.  :???:
I thought people would have the sense to see the postitive effects of a dedicated archer line. It seems that a lot of people believe that Nords are just fine as they are, and require no boost at all, but I think most of these people have just no real experience fighting as a Nord.

I agree.  Playing as a faction lets you really see their strengths and weaknesses are.  I knew people *****ed about the Rhodoks a ton (I'm a Nord player by the way) and kind of agreed a bit because they were a joke to beat, but I wasn't prepared for how much they sucked until I actually used them.

I personally never had a problem as Nord, but then again I had 1/2 damage set for friendly troops and 1/4 damage set for me at the time so...   Yea I'm sure my guys and I would get more raped at full damage.
  12. Game Updates

What would be the point of having all these things in the official game when there are people making mods with all of them in it?
  13. Troop Overhaul

True.  And probably a lot more options as well.

Is there a way to modify some of the weapon mechanics using the mod system?  For example:

For polearms I find that one of the main problems is that once a troop gets up in your face you are pretty much up **** river.  This isn't a problem with a sword because I've often been able to take on 4-5 guys at a time with any other weapon, but given a polearm and 1v1 becomes tricky.

What I wanted to do is make polearms give a knock back equal to their reach.  Either that or get rid of the ridiculous penalty you take for using polearms right next to the guy.  If I could implement a knock back it'd make polearms more feasible.  I was wondering if this is moddable.

Currently to make up for polearm suckiness I've been pretty much making their speeds a lot higher, especially for the two-handed pikes (Ashwood and Awlpike) because they suck for their cost, and greatly increasing their damage.  The point of this is too make it so that a polearm on foot can deal out one hit kills even with low proficiencies.  If you are only going to get 1 shot to kill them before they close in on you then it should be a one shot kill.  They way it was before you'd need 2-3 shots which is just impractical when you consider the fact that most infantry will be on top of you after 1 hit (which to be honest they almost always block).

Polearms, in my opinion at least, are what make Rhodoks suck so much.  Even with the stat and skill boosts I gave them (even though every troop got a stat boost, Rhodoks certainly got the bigger boost) they suck in comparison due to their weapon choice.  You really can't get their agility and athletics high enough to make it possible to use the polearms.

The way it stands now polearms are only usable from Horseback, which Rhodoks lack.  Yet somehow Rhodoks use polearms still.  I really like the idea of giving polearms a knock back, or at least a knock down effect.  This way you have a chance to give them a killing blow.  The knock down/back effect could be blocked like regular attacks but it would simply discourage people from simply running up to a pikeman and initiating the 0 damage polearm attack.

Once the module system comes out I definitely plan on making a more in-depth mod for the troops, lords, mercs, and all the other units that you find, including stats, skill, and troop name and equipment changes to fit the factions historical background.  Of course this will depend on what kind of changes are made in the next release of M&B.
  14. Poll: Ranged troops for Nords?

Valkyries would make a nice Cavalry unit for the Nords
  15. Poll: Ranged troops for Nords?

Temujin: So based on your suggestions the faction choices look like this:

    Swadians
    Vaegirs
    Khergits*
    Nords**
    Rhodoks***

*If you plan on taking any Town or Castle then you have to recruit from Swadians or Vaegirs

**If you plan on winning against anyone except the Rhodoks or other Nords then you have to recruit from the Swadians or Vaegirs

***If you plan on winning against anyone except other Rhodoks then you have to recruit from Swadians or Vaegirs

I guess we should stop *****ing.  The game is balanced because we have the Swadians or Vaegirs to balance out our armies.

  19. Poll: Ranged troops for Nords?

Temujin: I interpreted it as yelling or screaming, as most people usually do with caps.  Bold and Italics are usually better for making things stand out, but I don't want to start an argument over something stupid like that.

Historically you are correct, people did use mercenaries, but let us look at game balance.  Mercenaries are very expensive, as you put it.  It's pretty stupid that Swadians and Vaegirs should be able to rely on a more balanced, superior for that they can get at 10 Dens. a recruit at any of their fiefs while Nords, Khergits, and Rhodoks have to rely on expensive Mercenaries to fill the gap that their own military fails to fulfill.  Historical accuracy is important, don't misunderstand me there, but game balance is too.  Unfortunately what is historically accurate doesn't always lead to a balanced and/or fun game.

Naridill: I agree with you.  Ullr does look really gay in that picture.  Odin would kick his ass any day of the week, but more so on Wednesday.

My Norse history isn't as sharp as I'd like it to be, but I do follow it quite a bit.  I do know from reading that Spears were the most common among Norse weapons and I do know that Swords were a significant sign of wealth and nobility.  All I have read about bows and archery among the Norse, aside from what you just posted, is that they were rarely used among the Huscarls, and the only ones that did use bows were the fyrds, levied peasants.  Also just because archery was an activity that they mastered doesn't necessarily mean that they felt there was glory in it.

Look at the Greeks, Odysseus is known for being able to string a bow, but if you read the Iliad they often frown upon it.  When ever they describe an archer it always would follow with a comparison to them hiding and ducking for cover and other cowardice connotations.

I can't really speak as much from the Norse side as you could because you have obviously read more of the Sagas and Edda than I have, but aside from Ullr I've never heard of another character in Norse Mythology that was known for his archery skills in combat more so than his Axe/Sword.

  20. Poll: Ranged troops for Nords?

    Temujin 说:
Nords are perfect as they are, Just suplement their lines with Mercenaries if you must have different archers, and use them the way you should use them, instead of going all "I'm a crazy viking charge! rrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgghhhhhhhh". Giving their infantry bows and throwing weapons make them a perfect Ifantry first battle line with Archer cover in the second Line.

I'm sick of you guys complaigning about the Nords just because you play the game wrong, sitting on coursers with Plate armour estern swords and war bows/ long bows complaining about not having archers for the Nords, what do the Nord lords do? they hire Crosbow Mercenaries to suplement their troops, What did armies do in the past? They hired Mercenaries because there was no developer to whine to.

Also, another thing! HANDS OFF THE VAEGIR MARKSMEN! they are perfectly fine the way they are, no nerfing of those, The Vaegirs border the Khergit, they are bound to wage war agaist those, without their archers the batles against fleeing Khergit horse archers could take hours. Also The Swadian heavy troops are too strong for the Vaegir knights, so again the Marksmen protected by whatever are the only hope for the Vaegirs.

There really is no point in changing anything about the faction right now, the factions are balanced enough, especially since there are MERCENARIES IN EACH DICIPLINE for hire. Have poor infantry and no cavalry but strong Crossbowmen? Focus on Crossbowmen, have some infantry and suplement with Mercenary swordsmen/hired blades, and mercenary cavalry. HAve no cavalry, no archers but evil strong Infantry? Get Mercenary crossbows and Cavalry. There's a reason why those Mercenaries exist you know

First off I think you are missing the point.  In a balanced game you shouldn't have to "supplement" your lines with mercenaries.  Mercenaries are meant to be an "I need an army now" option rather than a crutch.  Speaking of which, it's pretty dumb to hold the idea that every other faction is fine without using mercenaries, except for the Nords.

Second, if you took the time to read a post then you'd notice that many of the Nord players are complaining of the inability to command their ranged and melee units separate from each other because they are both classified as Infantry.

Lastly, if you want your opinion taken seriously try avoiding the use of comments like:
