  1. Perusasion

You can persuade companions not to leave you when they get upset, that could be new?
  2. Throwing vs Archery 1.003 Discussion

I take it back about "Shield + throwing weapon" - tried first person view with that combo?
  3. Throwing vs Archery 1.003 Discussion

Shield + throwing weapon = cool! There's nothing more satisfying on foot than javellining a guy off a horse right before he lances you.
  4. Hold Fire

We have hold fire, but it could cooler. It'd be coolest if, instead of sheathing swords and having to reload crossbows before shooting again, they stood ready. An order of "Fire!" meaning an instantaneous volley from all your missile troops. That would rock!
  5. PC Zone UK 62 out of 100 - stupidest review ever?

Reviewers aren't used to this kind of game- reading the review, it seems that the reviewer has completely missed the point somehow :/ You just don't play M&B worrying about your "DPS" or the lack of one bow's ability to kill 50 odd enemies or whatever- it's a game of fun rather than of racking up points, which I imagine reviewers don't see too often and don't know how to handle.

Like Spore got panned! But Spore was a dissapointment, M&B has exceeded expectations, for me. And those expectations were high to begin with.
  6. Mount&Blade 9 New Screens

    No edit face?

It wouldn't be too unrealistic if Edit Face only allowed editing of hair/facial hair and making age go up (but never down!). It's cool starting as a bowl-cutted peasant, and growing into a bearded grizzled old man (in the course of a couple of months).

    Looks nice though!
  7. Will we ever see a Mount and Blade MMORPG?

I think people are right that M&B wouldn't work as like, a conventional MMORPG. It would be... awful to say the least if we had thousands of people packed into towns and such. M&B is cool because it isn't conventional though- I know it's too much to ask for realistically, but MMO done in a new way that suits M&B would rock.

Maybe, since M&B has no linear storyline (and I don't think it will at release?) the storyline could be played through a series of battles online over a period of months- like every couple of weeks an RP description is posted up, for the next few days the battle could be fought by players- whichever side comes out with the most wins or whatever counts as winning the battle in the storyline- and the next storyline advancement and battle reflects that.

I hope I'm making sense  A pipedream, but a sweet one

EDIT: Well, you could show on the map to yourself- but not too others until you're in a party of a certain size?
  8. Will we ever see a Mount and Blade MMORPG?

M&B would make the perfect MMORPG! It's avoided all the problems of  the level-grind, and level one chaps can go toe-to-toe pretty much with higher levels. An MMO without the dull level gap, the experience grind, the rock-paper-scissors business. I agree- it would rock! It'd be a (maybe the first?) MMORPG that's a game, not a job.

EDIT: Never gonna happen though  Unless we wish hard enough

EDIT: Off topic, but the perfect MMORPG would be a zombie one without levels- know what I mean? Players trapped in some defensible safehouses (Events! Zombie break in, aargh!) while zombies roam the streets. Permanent death but not much in the way of gaining experience and levelling up. MMO's need to get players to stay because they're fun to play, rather than because "just a few hours more killing rats and I'll be level 43!"
  9. My friends reaction to Mount and Blade...

You can do that- Camp -> Take an Action -> Recruit Prisoners. And enemies do that too.
  10. Too many female companions

There's plenty of historical evidence of female soldiers anyway- if the issue is making Mount and Blade confom to the rules of actual comparable societies, then not including women would be more unrealistic than doing so.

No one read my link  So I'll quote some choice bits that are relevant to the setting-

    Vikings and Saxons
An English Saxon Princess led an invasion of Jutland in the 6th Century. In the 8th Century Queen Aethelburgh destroyed Taunton. In the 9th Century Queen Thyra of Denmark led her army against the Germans.
In the 10th Century Aethelflaed, Lady of Mercia led troops against the Vikings and Olga of Russia ended a revolt in which her husband had died.

The Viking Sagas and Saxo Grammaticus' "History of the Danes" mention many warrior women. Hetha, Visna and Vebiorg led companies of the Danish army. Sela and Alvid were pirates. Stikla ran away from home to become a warrior. Rusilla fought against her brother for the throne. Gurith took part in a battle to help her son. Freydis Eiriksdottir, Auðr and Þórdis all used weapons against their enemies.

    11th Century
Aristocratic ladies who led troops in seige and battle included Emma Countess of Norfolk, Matilda Countess of Tuscany (and her mother), Sichelgaita Princess of Lombardy, Urraca Queen of Aragon, and Teresa of Portugal.
Matilda of Ramsbury (mistress of the Bishop of Salisbury) held the Bishop's Castle in his absence.

    12th Century
Aristocratic ladies who led troops in seige and battle included Alrude Countess of Bertinoro, Eleanor of Castile, Queen Urraca of Aragon, Marguerite de Provence, Florine of Denmark and Berengaria of Navarre, Queen Tamara of Georgia and the Empress Maud (also known as Matilda, Empress of Germany, Countess of Anjou, Domina Anglorum, Lady of the English, Matilda Augusta and Matilda the Good)
Maude de Valerie was a Welsh revolutionary.
Women took part in the Crusades in the armies of Emperor Conrad and William Count of Poitiers in spite of a papal bull forbidding them to do so.

    13th Century
Nicola de la Haye, daughter of the castellan of Lincoln defended the town against several raids and was made sheriff of Lincolnshire in 1216.
Jeanne of Navarre led her army against that of the Count de Bar.
Ladies were admitted to the Chivalric Order of the Dragon, The Order of St Anthony in Hainault and the Order of the Garter.

    14th Century:
Isobel MacDuff Countess of Buchan, Jeanne de Danpierre Countess de Montfort (also known as Jane, Countess of Montfort), Isabelle of England, Christian Lady Bruce, Marjory Bruce, Mary Bruce, Phillipa of Hainault, Lady Agnes Randolph (also known as Black Agnes), Agnes Hotot of Dudley, Adelaide Ponthiey, Jeanne de Belleville, Margaret of Denmark
Ladies were admitted to the Chivalric Order of the Dragon, The Order of St Anthony in Hainault and the Order of the Garter.

That's the notables that are relevant to the historical period (ish).

  11. Too many female companions

    http://www.lothene.demon.co.uk/others/women.html

And this is even assuming that a fantasy world has to abide by the rules of our societies... Because it is socialisation, not something ingrained.

EDIT: It's a safe link, don't worry
  12. Too many female companions

Because even though some aspects of calradia are fantasy, many aspects, such as the entire combat system, are purposely made to be as accurate as possible to medieval combat. The combat is NOT fantasy, it is very not fantasy, and as such the presence of women there presents a problem.

That's debatable I guess. I'm guessing "combat system" includes the combatants? Well, why do we have the options of unrealistic hair? Unrealistic facial types? Armour/weapon combinations? The unrealistic army structures?

The fighting seems realistic (to someone with no knowledge of medieval-style warfare, to be honest, but whatever) but the combatants and the cultures are decided by the history of this fictional world, which is how it should be I reckon.
  13. Too many female companions

This argument that Calradia is fantasy and hence we should become apologists for anything ahistorical or inaccurate that is found ingame doesnt carry water with me

Why should a fictional world be judged by our own history though? It's just as ahistorical that William the Conqueror hasn't invaded the British Isles as it is that the genders aren't quite as unequal as in our own history.

EDIT: and yes, I chose that example because it's just about the only thing I remember of history
  14. Too many female companions

I don't see why it isn't realistic as it is- in that it realistically represents the world of Mount and Blade... I mean, you have I think Isabella of Suno talking about how it isn't illegal for women to rule, though things aren't equal. There's references everywhere in the game that indicate more equality than in medieval times but less than today, and the amounts of female soldiers and such I think represent that.

I mean, medieval stuff like religion is downplayed in the game (there's only really that "Thank God you came, sir!" stuff from a peasant that I can think of)- why shouldn't sexism? If someone made a mod set in Medieval Europe, then yeah- but it's not, it's Calradia.

EDIT: Sorry about the redundancy of this post! It seems this opinion has been posted before- and I agree with it!

A Mount and Boosh mod would rawk.

Anyway- has anyone mentioned siege defenses- where you have 0 health and keep fighting the siege without being able to leave or surrender or get captured or anything? It's like Bill Murray is leading the defense.
  16. Spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors in Native

"We can still win the war if we rallys"

All my lords sound like Pedro  (from Napolean Dynamite, just in case it's not in fashion on the internet any more)
  17. the lonely adventurer

It could work if you become a mercenary and just tag along with other people's armies. Wouldn't be able to sign up for campaigns though with only one person.
  18. Poll: Ranged troops for Nords?

I reckon every Nord should carry a bow/throwing weapon of some kind- but still be no where near as good with them as melee. I kinda see Nords as, rather than unified armies with troops dedicated to certain areas, they're all little self-contained warriors- they're individuals gathered together rather than units in an army.

That may hurt them in game though. I mean, Khergits would rip them open- instead of futiley chasing after the horse-bowmen with melee weapons they'd futiley chase the horse-bowmen while shooting into trees and getting killed from not having a shield raised
  19. Favourite Tactical Maneuvers

"Hold Position!" ...wait....wait.....wait.....*Battles Over press TAB*

    Yeah I'm Rhodock :/
  20. Mercenary and Bandit Factions

A small bandit "kingdom" would be cool though. Not strong, but maybe hard to get to or something? Or they could be based in a random village that you don't know of until you join them or whatever? Robin Hood style?

Quests for them, quests against them. It'd add a lot I reckon.
