Not really, even if they are stocked at the last castle with nothing but peasants... they will never conclude peace!
I never cap their King or Lords.  When they beseige me I repel the first wave and then sally onto open field to mop up the leftovers.  If most of their armies are reduced to single digits then some other faction(s) nearly always takes advantage and declares war on them.  That's when the peace offers start popping up day after day.  I nearly always refuse because they rarely ever attack me once they start begging for peace and giving them peace tends to discourage other factions from attacking them, and if they're attacking them then they're not attacking me.

Of course, your mileage may vary.

Longest weapon with swing while on horse?

    Berserker Pride 说:
Betcha sword of war has the longest ACTUAL reach (130).  Polearms lose 22 reach due to the overchoked up swinging animation.
I didn't know that.  That would bring the hafted blade from 153 down to 131.  Glad I stuck with my SoW.

    Question on pack horses

I've just tried moving my 80-unit army between 2 castles a few times with around 8 inventory slots of food; 1st with 1 extra horse, 2nd with 2, 3rd with 3, and 4th with none.  Each time my party travelled at a steady speed of 5.5.  I'm quite sure that if I fill all inventory slots with Iron my speed will drop much more if I have fewer horses, but with a mostly empty inventory there appears to be no difference at all.

Pathfinding is the only skill I've found that affects map speed.  My Deshavi has 6 in PF and when her health is in the red after a battle the party moves a lot slower.  Morale helps map speed too.  I remember once chasing an army around with exactly the same speed until we happened to pass through a village where I bought some honey and butter.  The additional morale allowed me to catch them.

Sationing troops in a just captured city/castle

The game should automatically station a small garrison of minor units at any newly captured town/fortress.  The garrison would remain inaccessible and be automatically removed if the player is assigned as the estate's new lord.  This way a player doesn't have to chase off besiegers for up to a week while the king makes his decision as long as he returns in time to join the battle, which is currently impossible with no garrison.

Imprisoned Lord Appointed New Marshall... seriously!!

Just as I was preparing to engage a Nord army with the intention of liberating one of their prisoners, Boyar Rudin, the Vaegir King appointed him to be our new Marshall.  Hmm...  I'd have thought that his current status as a Nord prisoner would have damaged his upward mobility within the Vaegir...

What is the rationale behind the new command structure?

The new command menu system is one of the best features of Warband.  The original Operation Flashpoint had the same system for dealing with its highly complex command menu tree.  After a short while of getting used to it the player character was rapidly barking out detailed orders to his squad just as he would in real life.

I'm a horse archer and I find riding is much easier in 3rd person, while during sieges it's much easier to check over ledges and around corners without getting targeted.

    Bow or Crossbow?

Your main limitation could be Weapon Mastery of only 4, which means the proficiency of whatever you choose will plateau a bit early.  With that in mind a light crossbow will probably serve you better.  And with STR of 12 you'll still be able to use a Masterwork Light Xbow which hits for almost 50 dmg.

I'm under the impression that one should always use a bow that is 3 or 4 points lower in power draw requirement than what your power draw is, and that leaves very few bows to choose from.
That is nonsense. I don't understand why so many people think Power Draw works this way, read the description again, carefully! Power Draw adds 14% damage for EVERY point invested, not just for the points above the bow's power draw requirement.
I believe he may have been referring to accuracy and reticule closure which improve dramatically when your PD exceeds the bow's requirement.

Heraldic Mail in the short jacket style.
Great Helmets.  Excellent value and allows me to see their faces during dialogues.
    Plate Boots.
Hardened Leather Gloves or Reinforced Gauntlets if cash reserve permits.

Don't remind me!   This character has only seen one of those show up during this very unlucky playthru and that was in his first week.

By the way, whenever I've tried going heavily with Int and Cha the skill I missed the most was Athletics; not so much for battles as for simply climbing stairs in taverns while looking for ransom brokers, bards and book sellers.

What is a good build? (share yours too!)

I've tried loads of builds and the one that I enjoy the most is Horse Archer with Foot Archer companions.  Equipment is Warbow, 2 bags of arrows and Balanced Sword of War, although the new 2H Sabre that does 44 dmg with 10 less reach or hafted blade polearm with 23 more reach appear tempting.

On open field I position my troops on a hill against knights/lancers and sometimes have them hold fire for a bit to not waste arrows on hail mary shots.  This also gives me time to ride out past the incoming foes and get them to turn their shields towards me instead of my rangers.  This also tends to disperse the enemy and feed them to my troops at a slower pace.  This is especially important with enemy cavalry.  My horse of choice is a heavy courser which outruns everything, has a reliable enough charge, and very rarely gets struck down if I'm careful.

Each of my companions has a specialty:
    - Ymira first aid
    - Jeremus wound treatment and surgery
    - Dashevi pathfinding
    - Katrin Trade
    - Marnid Tactics
    - Klethi looting
    - Nizar spotting
    - Bunduk engineering
I selected this team because they get along, have high Intelligence, and the lowest average level at recruitment.  Each will also have 2 pts in Training by the time I start recruiting villagers.  They're each nearly level 20 now with Archery ~300 and 2H ~200.  Around 50% of the time when I reach the final round in a tournament I'm going up against one of my companions.

I've just reached level 30 and my stats are:
    24 STR
    24 AGI
    11 INT
    6 CHA

With renown just over 1000 I can lead a party of 83, which is made up of Nord Vets and Huscarls.  Enemy faction parties of 110 - 120 run away from me.

Whichever way you set up your skills it's a good idea to give yourself a few points in First Aid so that your companions' party skills will still function even if you are the only one left  standing after a battle.

What was your archery proficiency at when you started one-shotting "most things" from horseback with a Strong Bow, only 2 in Horse Archery and 3 in Power Draw?

With a Warbow, Khergit Arrows, Power Draw at 8, Horse Archery at 6 and proficiency at over 370 I still can't "one-shot most things" besides a recruit or footman.

With 87 Huscarls I'm tempted to stand and fight.

    It's doable, easiely...
I tried a few times and even switched to easy, but that first huge wave lead by 13 Jarls and King Ragnar is just too much for the 9 of us (battle advantage of -24).  Furthermore, Wercheg is a pain to defend with its extra wide breach and wooden palisade walls that obstruct half of my arrows (horse archer, here).  Even at lowest battle size we haven't been able to kill more than 116 of them before being overwhelmed.  Perhaps if I were up at lvl 30 and my companions were closer to lvl 20 we'd have a chance.

Perhaps I'll bug-out with my Huscarls and trash Sargoth and Tihr while they're all obsessing over Wercheg.  ...me, bitter?

Edit:  Disbanded every unit that wasn't a Huscarl and gave it one more try.
    Werchegbest.jpg

This time, they lost 141 to my 20 before catching up with me.  Is there some way to figure out when they'll stop spawning more units for a given battle?  I've got no idea how close I'm getting to completing the first siege wave.

Final Edit:  Abandoning Wercheg, I took 73 Huscarls and capped Sargoth and Tihr suffering no losses.  Then I rushed back to defend Sargoth against 4 Nord armies that where not busy at Wercheg.  With Battle size maxed, their numbers were reduced to single digits (368 kills) while I only lost 5 Huscarls.  It was then that the entire Vaegir army finally showed up and captured 2 of the fleeing Jarls.  We all then marched on newly besieged Tihr, but it was only some small Swadian count who got chased off.  (Did I mention we're at war with the Rhodoks and Swads too?)  By now Wercheg was back in Nord hands, however most of their army became busy raiding their own villages that became Vaegir along with Sargoth.  Go figure.  So, it was easy to recapture Wercheg.  I didn't ask for Sargoth or Tihr, so if Yaroglek doesn't restore Wercheg to me then I'll probably go rogue.  And before anyone asks, I forgot to reset full damage so yeah this part of the adventure was all done in easy mode.  Hell with bragging rights, I'm not doing it all over again.

    Finch 说:
It is almost impossible in the entire tournament you will not get at least one round where you get stuck with a lousy (read can't use) weapon, resulting in a loss. Hence I thought there was a way to save after every round?
Saving between rounds is not possible.

As a horse archer I avoid tournaments in towns where there is a strong melee focus.  For instance, I never bother joining in Tihr where everyone is always on foot with a small axe and shield, however they love me in Halmar and Tulga.

I also avoid overly randomised bit-of-everything tournaments in places like Suno and Yalen where winning has much more to do with luck than skill.

Yeah....ALWAYS pick up a weapon you can use more effectively.
Yep, this is rule number 1.

    A few other tips:
    - Grab a riderless horse if you're stuck on foot.  This may mean aiming high to avoid killing a mounted horse.
    - Consider riding circles around the last opponent if he's got javelins.  Throwers have no melee weapon and will just sit there when out of ammo.
    - Don't forget the arrows when grabbing a dropped bow.  (Duh!)
    - When bracketed between 2 opponents in a 3-singles round wait a few seconds then run up the middle so that they end up meeting and fighting each other.
    - Never enter a tournament at dawn or dusk unless you have very good colour vision.
    ...and most of all...
    - Never assist your teammate if it's Kradus, Dranton or Xerina.  In fact, consider teamkilling them.
