    Hmm. This is actually not nearly as impossible as it sounds, actually. There are only 7 armor textures that you've listed, Tyrant, and I think most already have a texture in the map_icons DDS files. And texturing weapons is easy, especially for little figures. For the weapons and such, we WOULD need new meshes. I *think* I *might* know how to go about doing that- I'll have to fiddle around tomorrow.
    HOWEVER. That number of weapons is WAY too big. I propose chopping it down to a more manageable number. How about:

    >Nothing (includes daggers and rocks)
    >Spear (acts as any polearm)
    >Sword --with shield
    >Axe
    >Mace --with shield
    >Crossbow
    >Bow

    That's only 8 weapon-style meshes, rather than the 12 in the other list.


    Re-texturing:

    I made the Cuir Boulli darker and less pinkish.
    I'm working on making faction-specific caravan leaders, but the colors are a bit too bright right now; too carnivalish. I'm also adding in different faces for the people; some of them are REALLY grumpy looking up close, so I'm trying to add some life and color.

    It would be a MAJOR project, and I'd probably need quite a bit of help, but what if each lord not only had their own flag, but their own tabard?

    The eyes are off, but so far I like them. I'm also working on the normal people, but my colors aren't quite right yet.

    Oh, goodness no! Not with all different sets of armor that there already are- not to mention the ones people are still adding in!

    Hmm. So supposing this gets off the ground, which I hope it does, we could do something along the lines of:

    Adventurer- Light leather armor?
    Vassal- Chainmail or Cuir Boulli type armor
    Marshall- Mail or Plate with open helmet
    King- Plate with tabard and closed helmet

    with corresponding female icons as well.

    I'm going to start work on making faction icons more recognizable- mostly by changing horse color, but I'd like to adjust their armors to better reflect their allegiences. I'm not sure how to change the coding to get it to work, but I'd love to try.

    Steppe/Khergit: Steppe/appaloosa horses
    Swadian: Bay
    Vaegris: Gray, white, or dappled
    Rhodok: Black
    Nords: Chestnut


    I'll begin looking at textures to see what I can do. I'm glad the map icons don't need ot have much detail.  :wink:

    I really do think this is a good idea. I can't do meshes, but I can sure do textures. Prince Ghaldir, or anyone, if you want to make this a mod and you can code, I'd be willing to give it a shot!

    I do think having a larger selection of map icons would be very welcome. I'd like to add female ones (well, I'm a girl, okay?) as well as making the Lords look more cultural. I think that THAT could be done easily with a few new textures, but for new meshes, I'm not sure what you could do.

    I think it might be cool that when you advance in rank, your little map dude gets a makeover. When you're just an adventurer, you've got the stupid leather stuff, but when you become a noble, you get a little suit of armor (suited to your faction) and a prettier horse, also dependent on the faction you join.

    Making new textures wouldn't be too difficult. . .sounds like an interesting mod idea if someone can help me with the coding. It would be nice to tell what faction a lord is without doing a mouse hover. Or even knowing what lord it is. Hmm. . .Heraldric armor for lords? It would be tedious, but I think pretty cool. . .

    Off of my musings, back to topic!

    You mentioned earlier about UV Mapping being a pain. Have you ever tried out UV Mapper? http://www.uvmapper.com/
    It's a free program, and when I was retexturing coursers in .808, it worked really well for me.

    Hmm. . .I think I'm going to download an old version and make a sketch of Zendar and how it could be redone/expanded. And also ride the old Coursers. I loved those models. . .</nostalgia>

    I don't know if I'll be able to get around to actually making it- my computer is kind of slow and crashy, but I'm going to give it a good college try!

    Do the custom settlements HAVE arenas? I can't remember seeing one. . .then again, I haven't explored everywhere yet. Hmm. I need to do research, don't I?

    I'm wondering if I should reinstate (that's assuming I get off my lazy butt and actually do this) the training area in the older games, and I wonder if I could just make that an extension at the end of town. And Hareck yells at you to go do the dang tutorial before you can hunt down river pirates  :smile: .

    I think it was 20. Man, Hareck was a meanie. But I do miss Zendar. Maybe if I can figure out how making custom settlements work I'll rebuild Zendar to its former glory. As it were.  :wink:

    I just like the feeling in the Native game that you the player are an upstart adventurer in a land filled with culture conflicts and predispositions. I don't want to have to wait for an in-game year to get the factions going.

    If Zendar replaced Custow, how could you hunt down river pirates?  :wink:

    Custom Settlements 0.675 Bug Report Thread

    ^dittoes to that. Though it IS my favorite settlement so far, the pit(s) are just annoying.


    There seem to be shaders lacking or something- we've got a case of what I call "night-light building syndrome". It's not too bad during the day, but at night buildings don't get any shadowy-er, and it looks silly. Even some Native objects have NLBS- specifically rocks and trees, but most of the new items in this mod seem to have the problem.

    Oh, and some horse textures need some serious overhauling. I bought one with red barding stuff and it was such an eyesore I couldn't even stand to give it to one of my companions.

    I really love what's been done here, but I was wondering if perhaps there could be a Custom Settlements Calradia edition, where the custom towns are used in place of the old ones and keep the old factions and such. And maybe bring back Zendar? </nostalgia>

    Saregona, I'm sorry if I offended you in any way. It was never my intention to do so, or to butt into your mod which does completely belong to you. You are a fantastic artist, and I am sorry if I pushed you too far. Your mod is beautiful, and I am excited to see what the future holds.

    I only 'released' your module because you set up the textures for downloads in the first post. It may because I'm not a great modder, but I spent over five hours figuring out how to get them to work in my game. I figured I would help the non-modders who want the horses by making it easier to install the textures that you have already released to the public. I never meant to steal anything or hurt your feelings. I just wanted to make your textures easier to be enjoyed.

    I won't do anything here without your permission. Many apologies.

    Well, crap.

    I messed up the chestnut Warhorse, so I'm going to have to re-release. At least that gives me an opportunity to simplify. I got the request to just include an "items.txt" file, so I'll do that as well as adding my troops file so you can run across different ponies while fighting cavalry.

    I don't *think* this has anything to do with the mod, but for some reason some of the hair textures aren't showing up. Let me know if you have this problem.

    I'd like to add more shops in the game, kind of like in Morrowind, where they had a Clothier and a Book Merchant (with an actual shop) and an Herbalist. Thing is, I don't know how to go about doing it. Sure, I can add them into the troops.py file, but how will the program know that these are...

    Ditto. I started a new mod to install Saregona's awesome horses and the faction colors all died. So did some of the hair colors, actually. Weird.

    Oh! Okay. I thought you were angry cuz you used a tongue-sticking-out smiley =P

    I'm so excited about the new models! I actually miss back in .8 or so when each of the horses had a different model. I especially liked the courser- I think your Arabian one will make a good replacement!

    I checked thoroughly in-game (I gave myself a million denars and all my stats set at ten and zipped from town to town) and all of the models worked for m BEAUTIFULLY. The chestnut one is my favorite! <3

    I provided instructions for installation, but you do have to know a LITTLE bit about the module system.

    EDIT: I screwed up on one of the materials, so I'll be releasing Saregona's Horse Textures Version .11 within the next day or so- will include items.txt code and troops coding!

    SUCCESS!!!!

    I have gotten the BRFs to work in game and I've written the item code as well! I'm going to write up quick instructions and then put this on the web. In order to install it, you're going to need Python 2.6 and the ModuleSystem.

    It'll be ready within 20 minutes or so from now!!!

    Yes, and it still doesn't change it. I played around with the other video settings and nothing changed the appearance of the water.
