can someone tell me why i cant become a vassal for anyone when i try to it says your already a vassal, but it says im his vassal already is it because im a mercenary for them?

this is a noob question but ill do it anyway, how do i upgrade my town into a castle i know i can use the cheats but that ruins the game anyway so please tell me thanks.  :mrgreen:
