  1. 300/Battle of Thermopylae MINIMOD

I think you'll find that the heavy breastplates came after Thermopylae, but if you can find the source to back up your statement then feel free!

The Spartans of Thermopylae had a cloak as armour. That was it. They relied on their large bronze covered shields as protection. The shield covered their bodies from knees to shoulders.

Shield + greaves + helmet + help from mates = Complete protection.
  2. 300/Battle of Thermopylae MINIMOD

But... but... the Spartans at that time DID wear no armour at all. Except for greaves and helmets...
  3. Happy '07

Not as good as the Welsh.
  4. Happy '07

I wandered around Swansea looking for merriment, and merriment I found in abundance! I may spend New Years with no plans whatsoever more often!
  5. Medieval Total War 2

Am I the only one that can't get the link to work?
  6. What did you get for Christmas?

I got some lovely bits and pieces, but the most surpsrising was a SatNav for my car, which hopefully means I won't get lost going to re-enactment shows so often! I've had lots of fun playing Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (so hard!) on the PC and Gears of War on the 360 (soooo good! But finished in 2 days).

The best thing by far was spending a fews days with the family, especially my little brother, I think he misses me when I'm away at university. Back to the world of sea cucumbers on the 2nd!
  7. Man Raped by Three Women (Lucky bastard)

If I was that chap I'd be scared beyond belief that these women were raping me because they had AIDS and couldn't get laid any other way.

We are talking South Africa here after all.
  8. Things to do before you die

Double D it was chaps, good drills!
  9. Things to do before you die

I was doing carparking for a certain county event in South Wales and was turning cars away because my section was full. A certain antique show B-list celebrity (hint: he's orange) turned up and demanded entry. He said:

"Don't you know who I am?!"

    To which I retorted:

"No Sir, but I know what you are."

Points if you can find a picture of him and post it here. What do points mean girls and boys?
  10. my website, for all game lovers

Been reading "How To Make Friends And Influence People" huh Rathyr?
  11. my website, for all game lovers

    *cries with laughter*

It was the dimunitive "sorry" that did it for me.
  12. Medieval Total War 2

I've gotta say that I'm very disappointed with the poor tactical AI of this game. I attacked a smallish Mongol band with a similar size force. They just stood there and received arrow after arrow until they were almost utterly decimated. Saying this, the strategic AI gives the odd surprise here and there, which is pleasant.

In a different fight a very large Mongol horde assaults one of my cities, but has limited troops and therefore limited usable siege weapons. It was a combination of lots of longbowmen and cannon towers that won that day! I'm very glad that I comprehensively changed the settlements behind the front lines from castles to cities and upgraded as many financial structures as possible, this means I can keep very large and very good quality garrisons to lay some smackdown to Mongol besiegers.
  13. RAM memory Issue

Thanks Archonsod, that was really helpful.
  14. RAM memory Issue

How can I find out what type of RAM I've got? I'm thinking of upgrading too!

Yeah, I just joined the crusade. Looks like it will take another eight years or so for my army to reach antioch. I hope my king doesn't die before then, I'd hate to see what happens to a crusade army without a general.

Yeah, it pretty much disintegrates. I sent a very large and well equipped crusade army all the way to Jerusalem by boat from Northern France. They got within one turn of the shore when they were ambushed and sunk by the entirety of the Egyptian navy.
  16. New computer building advice.

Bearing in mind that I struggled to upgrade my graphics card, how difficult would it be to upgrade my processor? What information would I need to find out?

But the ecosystem won't survive either. And I don't want a rad-littered wasteland greenery in place of all that lush plant greenery

But change is good! Changes in environmental stress is the main factor that determines evolution. No, the same ecosystem (possibly) won't survive, but a different one will ,albeit possibly with a smaller biomass. It's incredibly difficult to kill a planet. Supervolcanos, massive impact events and hundreds of thousands of years of ice age haven't managed it, I'm pretty sure a few clicks on the Geiger counter here and there won't have that much of an effect.

Limiting reproduction CAN limit the damage done to Earth and render it repairable. Now we ****ed it up and I fear,it is irrevocable now.

But I forgot, you expect an apocalypse. I Expect infinity on Earth. We have a clash.

The Earth's been here much longer than we have and has survived much bigger disasters than us. Don't worry about the Earth, we're but a blip on Gaia's radar. Worry more about what the Earth's going to do to us...
  19. re-enactment

I was politely asked to move by a Norman (edit: I was lying down dead at the end of the second day), shortly before about two dozen horse thundered past, awfully nice chap!

The Saxons on our side did a very nice job of running down the field and getting surrounded and slaughtered!
  20. re-enactment

Cheating eh? How about getting knocked over by horses and shot at by arrows! We had our share of hardships, and you hardly ran up the hill!
