how do I turn off the casualty reports?

I keep my battle size at 100 simply because the benefit of the tactics skill, and therefore a lot of the game balance, flies out the window in battles where you are outnumbered by/outnumber your enemies if you go over that number.  I there were useful formations and/or a way to deploy troops before a battle it would be different but, as the game stands, 100 is the highest properly balanced battle size in the game.

Balanced Heavy Morningstar.  No contest.

Did he have any crab meat on him?  Always made me laugh when the dramatic combat music would start and I'd look around and there's just a mud crab sloooowly charging at me.

So you think Super Mario Brothers is an RPG because you play the role of a plumber trying to save a princess?  I assume the answer is "no".  In order for a game to even allow someone to play a role, the game has to have a story to play a role in.  That story also needs to be dynamic enough to allow the actions of the player to change how it plays out.  Broad strokes like "These four kingdoms are always at war.  Pick a side and have fun"  don't really cut it.  You "play the role" of something or other in almost EVERY game ever made.  That doesn't make them RPGs.

totally agree.  Would love to see M&B's combat in a game like Oblivion.

Just curious...what aspects do you think were "dumbed down"?  The previous Elder Scrolls game was also released a console.  It's not like Oblivion was their first venture into the console market.  The more I hear people talk about Oblivion or Fallout, the more I think people just hate or like a game just because Bethesda made it.  I'm not downing your opinion at all.  Just curious as to what you think they would have done differently had it not been a console release.

It comes from the fact that lots of gamers think that just because you create a character and distribute points then you must be playing an RPG; therefore it MUST make sense to compare it to a real RPG that takes place in a similar setting.

Actually, it IS everything people say it is.  It's everything YOU say it is, too.  That is the definition of opinion.

Pretty sure it's 35% and it's not just for bastard swords.  I think there are a couple other types of weapons you can use with one or two hands and the penalty also applies to any two-handed melee weapon used while mounted.

I think they used Pig Latin.

To each their own I guess.  I just can't handle how unrealistic it is to be able to ride a courser in armor that heavy so, even though native allows it, I still wouldn't do it.  I use a courser with my horse archer, though.

Well then I assume your horse dies alot when you come under concerted attack but they are easy to replace so what the hell.  Still, when it comes to melee, there is really no reason to be on foot when you could be on a horse full time so why not use a horse that would not only survive the whole fight but also do more damage to enemies?  Do you prefer fighting on foot vs. being mounted?  If so, why?  I can't think of a single advantage (in this game) that a footman would have over a horseman.

Sorry if I'm going over old territory as I didn't read the responses, but it seems that you have your logic a bit backward.  If you are decked out in heaver armor I assume you like to melee, in which case you should have a horse that can survive LOTS of attacks.  If you are a heavy melee character that uses a fast horse I would assume your horse dies alot.  Either that or you are playing at a very low difficulty level.
