When should i be able to start my own faction?

Cool, I never knew about the right to rule thing.  I just found out you can send companions on missions.

Also, I never knew you can recruit prisoners.

When should i be able to start my own faction?

That's a good advice.  But how do you get so many rogue knights?

I was thinking it would be essential to have knights who can shoot arrows to defend on the wall.  Rogue knights are really good at that but hard to get.

In my game I am actually collecting as many foreign nobles as possible to become hero adventurers.  With leadership = 6, an army of 100 of them will cost about 27K per week!  But if I can actually get 100 of them, I should be able to defend against a siege.

    Normal damage/ realistic walkthrough

    Grotrian 说:
    Powerstrike: 0 10
    Power draw: 0 10
    Athletics: 3 7
    Riding: 1 8 (+1 defeat jatu army)
Horse Archery: 0 6 (any higher than 6 makes no difference)
    Looting: 6 4
    Pathfinding: 0 10
Trainer: 0 5 (+5 kill or wound 10000 enemies and read life of legionnaire book)
Tactics: 2 4 (+4 win 500 battles and read pendor commander book)
Surgery: 3 5 (+1 read field surgeon book)
    Prison management: 4 6
Leadership: 1 7 (+2 rogue sovereign and read great leaders book)

This chart is very helpful.  I keep going back to this thread to understand original poster's method.  I found surgery 10 (+4) to be really OP.

In my game, my main character has combat related skill points (tactic, surgery, first aid) while my companions develop skills that have nothing to do with combat.  (e.g. pathfinding, engineering, would treatment, etc...)  Is pathfinding 10 (+4) really that necessary?

So far, I made all the companions into combat based character.  However, I don't know if it is worth it.  It seems that half of them will never be as good as high level honor troops.

One problem I had with the built similar to the OP is that the prison management is low in the beginning.  (I get 3 using the built similar to the OP)  Lords and unique spawns escape a lot after battle.  In other games, I get my char to 15 right away so that I can put 5 in prison management.

Hey guys, I'm doing a let's play series for PoP on my Youtube channel.

Ponies decrease your weight and foot soldier penalties, which increase map speed. 6 ponies is the limit. It's a basic M&B mechanic. I believe it's been that way since M&B 0.70(ish)?

Also, the best place to get ponies is from D'Shar bandits. Don't buy them, "liberate" them.

Cool.  I have never heard of this before.  Do you have to have a pony and not a horse?

    Favorite companion weapons

Are lances really that bad?  I regularly get a lance in the face and get knocked out.

Right now I am in the early phase without any troops.  My companions all have blunt weapons for prisoners.

Watching the companions fight, I think fighting with lances are okay when companions are riding high speed.  They get into trouble when they get bogged down with horses standing still.  In that case, the AI sometimes does the right thing and switch weapon, but sometimes doesn't.

I get a good result having a mixture of calvary and infantry.  It's better than having all calvary.

    [DISCUSSION] Fan Suggestion Thread

I really like Shogun 2's realm divide mechanism.  It makes the game interesting and challenging.

Basically, if a faction controls a certain percentage of territory (along with other minor variables like fame), all the other factions will gang up against the winning faction.

In Shogun 2, this can only happen to human players, but it would be awesome if it can happen to AI.

I think this would resolve the balance of power issue.  If any faction gets too powerful, all the other factions will gang up against the faction.

Hey guys, I'm doing a let's play series for PoP on my Youtube channel.

I logged into youtube and watched the first two episodes the other day.

Are you gonna be a skilled based character or a fighting based?  Skilled based character is usually boring to watch until the game is almost over.

    Favorite companion weapons

I have a question.  What equipment do you give to a companion that is required to survive?  (e.g. the one with surgery)

Should the companion be on foot or on a horse?  What equipment to give to the compapion and how do you develop?

So far I put Ansen on foot and give him a shield and a mace, but he might survive better if he is on a horse.  When I used to play the old M&B, I give surgery to Sara the Fox because she has a high riding skill and can be put on the horse that cannot be chopped down (I can't remember the name).  However, she is always the first one to get knocked unconscious.    But for this play through, I choose Ansen to be my surgent instead.

    Favorite companion weapons

I like to know how to equip my companions too.

I used to play M&B original and PoP 2.x, but didn't play warband until now.  There are some changes to the game, I don't like.  The battle interface is getting worse, and my guy on horses is getting harder to control then before.

Anyways, I still found that my companions can do better if they can stay on their horses rather than on foot.  In PoP 2.x and 3.01, I tried equiping my companions with crossbows and pendor great swords and it worked well, but they get crushed when they run into tough opponents.  For example, there is no way that configuration can survive against an equal number of Jatu warriors unless they get to at least level 20, but they can if they fight on their horses at level 10+ and reasonable equipments.

But the main thing for me is to be able to capture prisoners in early to mid game.  I equip them with maces and shield but so far I am not having good success.

You'll never guess what I've been through...

If Eyegrim dies, does this mean he won't respawn?

I hate fighting him because his army is tough.  I don't want to fight him and then see him respawn again.  I usually wait until the heretics are near obliteration before I fight him.

    Knighthood Orders/Honor troops

IMO, all honor troops are too good once you upgraded the crap out of them.  I struggle with money throughout the game until the end when I have way too much money.  I think you ruin the game once you upgrade your honor troop too many times.

If you want the best firepower and don't care about money upkeep, immortals and knight of ebony gaunlets are the best choices because you can recruit rogue nobles from the tavern and train them up to become hero adventurers and use them as your calvary.  Hero adventurers are very expensive though.  I don't like to see them stored in castles taking up wages while doing nothing most of the time.

    Advice on sieges

when you are on the offensive side, you are going to lose a lot of men.  sieges are mostly archery battle.  Okay, this is how I do it.  Let's assume you have can 200 men maximum.  you can't have that many men, gain some renowns and put some points on leadership.

First I try to spawn 25-30 infantry units and 30-40 archers.  My battlesize is about 150.  I have to one of my companions max out on tactic so that you can face equal number of enemies even in the cases when you are greatly out numbered.  the first group of infantry are crap units with shields.  they are not top tier units.  you tell them to go forward 10 or 20 steps.  their job is to attract enemy archers.  the archers i spawn first are pendor armored archers.  after they run out of arrow, you tell the archers to charge!  the infantry stays.

After your first wave dies out and get first wave of reinforcement, don't let them charge.  You hold them and put them behind your infantry.  My second wave of archers are Ravenstern Rangers.  You tell everyone to charge after they run out of arrows.

Okay now, you have to decide if you can take the castle.  Because if you do, you are going to lead the charge.  My second wave of reinforncement are top tier infantry and archers.  for example, I have halbardiers, kiergard, and knights of ebony gaunlets.  While the archers are shooting each other, you go up the stairs.  You jump over the enemy line and climb up the ladder to either side.  You tell everyone to charge.  The enemy units will be busy fighting your dudes at the choke point while you snipe the enemy with arrows.

If you copy my system and understand what why I do what I do, the game is essentially spoiled.

The reason I have different units - such as bringing pendor armored archer, ravenstern rangers, knights of ebony gaunlet rather than just one same unit of archers is because I want my guys to spawn a certain way.  I want to have the right ratio of infantry and archers.  Shields is very important.  If you have guys without shields such as halbardier, you want to put them last and hopefully by the time they spawn enemy archers are all dead.  Halbardiers are awesome in sieges both offensively and defensively if you can keep them away from arrows.

Defensively I never had much trouble.  Your archers do most of the killing, and most of your infantry should have shields except a few damage leaders.  My raio of archer and infantry is 75-25.  Most of my companions have either pendor 2 handers or glaive.  They chop people down really well.  I also have a ruby glaive myself, but it is over kill.

    Loot and Minor Faction Guide

sometimes against Jatu's initial charge.  I lead the charge to draw their attention.  I do a slight turn to get them to turn to me and then I jump over them.  and then I watch them get stabbed by my own calvary.  this works against a small band of Jatu dudes.  It doesn't work if you are fighting against a whole army, obviously.

Come on guys.  Siege battles are not that hard.  you don't need to exploit game mechanics.

    What's YOUR Perfect Battle Size?

I prefer the largest my machine can handle.  In the area with a lot of trees and hills, my machine can't even do 150 even though I have a fast computer.  It can, but the animation gets choppy.  But in a plain, my machine can handle 300 or more.

the game is harder as you increase the size.  i have noticed that there is more deaths.

Stats, skill threshold and equipment guide.

I second that.  Weapon prof and prisoner management is all you need.

It's very annoying to have enemy lords and named heroes escape all the time.  I max out prisoner management and refrain from using auto-calc so that it rarely happens.
