A couple of questions about my "army"?

    AWdeV 说:
.....and try to avoid any bots who accidentally have their lance couched.

Hahah! Yes, especially when you have just couched them and only managed to tear off their shield. A shieldless bot lancer is a deadly bot lancer.

A sort of trick to get your one handed numbers up quickly is to use a piercing weapon (a morning star is slow, but lethal). You'll be surprised how you can soon in no time manage to take down a rider and his horse in one passing blow. Swords seem to rely more on getting the length about right. Catch a guy at the max distance of your sword length and you can do some awesome damage.

Proficiency points of 150 is about sufficient, more are better ofcourse. I decided to stop powerstrike and draw at 5 each. Horse archery is at 4. While I'm no expert, I'll say that powerdraw is the most OP skill in game. It adds a lot of damage per level and I found that even with limited use (I'm a Nord chasing Khergits) I found that the added damage let my archery numbers catch up and soon surpass my one hander numbers.

Looking for someone in a village

Keep an eye out for remote buildings like mills or towers in the background. If there is one, its a good bet he will be there.
Otherwise hes behind a hut or on the edge of a garden. Stay close and don't stray too far cause then he will break out the throwing daggers and he seems ridiculously good with them (assassin remember!).

    Food and Party Morale Question

    DameGreyWulf 说:
Don't forget that a variety of food helps, too. That makes them nice and happy.
So having a mix of fish and cabbages is better than just more fish? I honestly cant seem to see where it makes a difference. Does this show up on the party morale report?

Why do AI gang up on me in Arena?

In my opinion, its dependent on your HP.
If you've taken a few hits earlier, the AI seems to be able to smell blood and will gang up on you. Ive had them group up on me in the second round of spawns (thats what I get for spawning with a bow and a proficiency of 55).

Setting who will fight first in a city or castle

Khergits are cannon fodder when on foot imho.
You'd be better off with almost any other ranged troop type. Thats just my opinion though.

    Spy mission

Yes it can be tough, and unless you are some highish enough combat build, fighting 4 on 1 melee on foot can be quite daunting. I frequently turn down these quests unless I have a small enough party (I find that upto 40~50 gets you in most of the time) or until my archery has gone up enough points to be able to one hit headshot everyone when they drop their shields. For some reason even with 4 points in athletics I cant run fast enough in plate armor.

If you do get caught, and don't wanna risk a fight, try to run out by the exit and leave area. Then try infiltrating it again a few days later. Also, as instructed, I find that avoiding any enemy villages or lords on the way and trying to sneak in during the day seems to reduce the chance of having to fight.

What to do with high-ranking prisoners

    Options:

    1. Wait for a ransom (best imho if you are within your prisoner management limit).
    2. Some lord may ask you to give him a captured lord (crappy rewards imho).
    3. Some lord  may actually give you a quest to capture and bring him an enemy lord, where you may be able to use him (still crappy reward but a bit better than option 2 most of the time).

    Following the spy quest

    Nameless Warrior 说:
There is a command in the interface to tell all troops to use blunt weapons only. Maybe that is for the best as I took this quest earlier, followed him, found the group of enemies, defeated them and then nothing. I had to go back and tell of my failure which was embarrassing for someone with as high renown and honour as me so next time I will try not to kill.
    Been there done that.

The problem with 'use blunt weapons only' is that unless you are leading a party of manhunters, or some such, the units not equipped with blunt weapons bring their fists into a sword fight!

Not so bad in the second round where you hunt the lone spy, but when you hunt the first spy master, his accompanying caravan guards can take a fair share of your fist fighter buddies out.

Lost two or three swadian men at arms that way the first time I tried it. Since then, I prefer to just go in solo with a lance, couch the bugger and then let the friendlies chew through the rest.

Oh, come on, once again? Once again someone tells me that my Native has features of the mods that I've never played?

Am I somehow special and get the Native 2.0 version? I'm pretty sure that there's Native feature that after falling in battle you have chances for losing one point of one of the main attributes.

    AWdeV 说:
Nope. Or maybe there is but it's not active in Native. o:

From something I read on the forums, that becomes enabled only after you have spent a given XYZ number of days in the game.

And I'm a newb!!

    Cant ask for castle? why?

Initiate the siege and then when you win, you get a screen of 'sending the news' to the king. You have two options...either ask for it to be awarded to you or ask for no rewards. If you asked for it  and it was given to someone else you get a paltry 900 denars as a reward.

When you took the vassalage oath, you may have been awarded a fief.
To check what fief you hold, open up quest log (Q) and at the bottom click on characters. It should start with you and will tell you what fiefs you hold.

    starting as a nobles son?

The banner is nice....as pointed out marks your baggage on a battlefield and its fun to see all your troops bearing the same colours. But imho the biggest advantage of being a noble's son is that you can a command larger party from the get go (reknown + leadership).

Stuck... Last city for a faction

    iffy 说:
I usually try to stay alive if I'm doing decent.  I've found that once we breach the castle it helps if I go in and guide my knights down to the ground.  This castle is particularly bad as there is only 1 ladder and a narrow landing on top.

That bit intrigues me.....how do you do that? I cant seem to stop my hurscarls from taking the scenic tour around the castle. The usual commands just don't seem to work in sieges.

I couldn't stop laughing yesterday as I was taking a castle from the vaegirs and saw a bunch of vaegir knghts and horsemen climb up a staircase on my left while all my top tier hurscarls were all running to the right to kill that last pesky vaegir skirmisher on the turret.

    Recomended infantry/archers mix for garisons?

2archer : 1infantry  seems ok imho. But maybe thats because I use mid tier nordic infantry which is also partly ranged. If you thought a rain of arrows was bad enough, raining axes and javelins is terrifying!

Also posting this under the mods forums might bring you help faster since I assume most of the mods guys would be patrolling in there.

Regarding Stat-boosting Books (e.g. Life of Alixenus the Great)

What about leadership skills? I was under the impression that only the leader's (i.e. mine) skills were considered. Yet I find that the daily exp gain is more when I have a companion like Lezalit with a few points in the trainer skill?

Funnily enough, I bought my first book yesterday, and it was the life of Alixenus . Took a bit of trial and error to figure out how to read it.
I thought it would be camp>select a book to read. But each time I did that it would just 'leaf through a few pages' and would stay at 0% read. Finally realized I had to camp>wait for some time to it to actually start counting as % read.

Will towns/castles/villages ever change ownership on their own?

    Nameless Warrior 说:
I think just stopping lords running after every little thing would go a long way.

Agreed. The AI is AI (absent intelligence).
Ive seen lords with a 200+ party try and chase down a caravan or a group of sea raiders while their own castle was sieged and lost with an enemy force of just over a 100.

    AI needs work.

    Swadians vs Vaegirs?

I like Nord infantry, swadian cavalry and a mix of nord and vaegir archers.

The infantry is a nice mix of melee and ranged throwing weapons.
Swadian knights fight well even on foot. My companions also usually augment them on horseback.
The nord archers are dependable in melee also, while the vaegirs are deadly at range.

Usable on the field and in sieges.

    man it got FOGGY

Funny, in a 300+ days 'exit without save' game I never saw this once.

Now that I started a 'realistic' game, with a archer type toon, I encounter it on my third day in. Was hunting looters near a vaegir town. Could only see them a second or so before I bumped into them with my horse (was following the stones being hurled).
