Yeah I have been doing that. Wouldn't say that is good though, because it takes longer than going village to village, and recruits are pretty cheap on their own.

It is fun "recruiting" forest bandits though. I just tell my army to retreat and start running about with a jousting lance. I'm pretty late in the game and my armor makes me practically invincible to them. (I tested, stood right next to an axe wielding forest bandit. The only blows he could do that did anything were hitting the top of my head, and even that was only 3 damage, on a side note looters are even better, completely harmless.)

Swadia! Buy them in Swadia, I have never seen any elsewhere. Same goes with Great Lances (Jousting too?) and chargers. ( Swords of War may be unique, as far at two handers go, they are very good.)

I never had either issue. Just don't go too close to the knights and you won't get stuck in them.

As for Rodhok Sergeants stopping them, fat chance. I have played for ages, and only in very hilly places would the Rodocks have much of a chance. I play with combat I on Good, speed is Normal or Faster and no damage reduction for friends, my Swadian Knights utterly destroy anything.

The only thing in my experience that can stop swadian knights are Kergit Cavalry, but only sometimes, and even then the loss ratio is at best 1:1 for the Kergits. That's only some Ketrgits thjough, many I find bring too many horse archers and the knights ride about, chase them and kill them, their aremor makes them pretty well impervious to the kergit arrows.

Get a blunt weapon and use it then sell prisoners. Trading can work, but is slow.

True enough. They did start as a particularly big band of deserters.

Also you forgot he Rodocks. 

I like Forest Bnadits, get a blunt weapon and go bandit hunting. Recruit prisoners and immediatly put them in the garrison. Works with other bandits too.

But forest bandits have bows, and so are semi-effective at range and dirt cheap in maintainance.

I personally go Swadian every time, in my experience they either kick ass and become unstoppable *cough* trump train *couch* *cough* or get torn to shreds.

But the main reason is KNIGHTS!!!
I have modded so troop numbers for everyone are higher, and I go marching about with 100-300 Knights. They are unstoppable! I have gone through thousands of enemies (not kergits, they are the only troops that stand a chance - they only lose 3/5 to one) and lost ~40 men.

They are unbeievably OP. It's ridiculous, and the difficulty i play on (it's not super high, I'm not bragging) friends don't get health bonuses. I mean really, they absolutely kick ass as cavalry in the feild, they ride in and overwhelm an enemy formation in seconds taking no losses often. But as infantry in seiges they can hold their own against anything. (Huscarls give them a run for their money - but only when Knights are dismounted)

Really, I'm not exaggerating anything. Often my army is literally just Swadian Knights, they are so good.

Edit: Your party is also very fast if it's allc avalry. I go about with 600 Knights currently. (I modded with TweakMB) and I go at 6.1 in daytime on plains.

They also are effective against your wallet. 45 denars a week (or 35 maybe, either way costly-AF) burns through money.

I keep my kingdom stable by only having a few lords, and making sure they are all "Upstanding" or "Good-natured". The bad part is most of them aren't related to each other so with feifs it is "meinemineMINEmineinemineMineMINEminemINEmineMINE"

I also try pretty hard to keeep on good terms with them, and sending feifs to the lower relation ones. (A towmn or so, and they will never think of rebelling) Also married Count Ryis's daughter (He's a Rodhock, but that can change soon.)

I ws negactive 28 relation with him,

and a couple days after accepting it said I failed the quest.

I used tweak MB to increse party size and make Morale practically a non-issue.

Let me tell you, when you are stomping about with 700+ men, Cntrl + Space is your best friend. It's great, although you may want to also increase fieif money so yoiu can afford it. Currently my 400 or 500 (forget how many) Swadian Knights chew up a huge amount of money! Of course I'm King of a quarter of Calradia so whoop-de-doop.

My 80 men just fended off 800. 

600 is supreme overkill, but overkill > underkill. And the reserves are nice too.

In the seige I sat pinging away with a stockstandard crossbow until I ran out of bolts. (I had 60) Then I joined my Swadian Knights at the top of the ladder, swinging wildly into the enemy formation with a Sword of War. (130 reach, 94 speed and hits like a dump truck)

Also I have 6/19 Swadian Lords locked up in Praven. And where do Lords go if you do not imprison them after a battle? There is A swadian Lord who I have +15 relation with and who does not like Harlaus, I have not been able to find him anywhere.

Edit: I'm playing Diplomacy 4.3 with some tweakMB in place so parties are much bigger (typically 50-200)

I've got 80 mismatched men - I have goine as far a feild as I dare to get them, I am getting so desperate for men that I'm attacked peasants with blunt weapons and recruiting them to party.
