  1. Changing the faction recruits of a village

How would you code it to provide troops from the player faction?  I have created a tree of player related troops, which I want to have recruitable, but only if the player "owns" the village.  But I can't figure out the code..

I'm also considering adding recruiting of tier 3 or 4 troops at high cost from Cities, to reduce the time spent training up the early tiers.  I've pretty much got it sorted for the cities original faction by adding the recruit menu to the city, but have the same issues with player tree troops..
  2. Adding new heraldic armors (banner alpha)

I like the "dirty" effect of the cuir buillie, especially for 2nd through 4th tier troops, because it speaks of hard time spent on the campain trail.  I'd expect cleaner looking armour on high tier and personal armours though.  Because the wearers are more likely to have staff to keep their kit clean.
  3. Adding new heraldic armors (banner alpha)

I understand it is not a quick text file hack, if it was that I could do it myself   But if a process is repeatable, it is documentable.  Perhaps the use of the word "quick" was ill advised...

So thats what I was after, a list of the process, tools and steps required to take and existing or new armour from a generic to a heraldic.  I understand its a fairly demanding and time consuming task to do.

I am in awe of the work and understanding of the mechanics you both have, it all goes a bit over my head.  If what you have posted is a detailed How To, then I'll have to assume it requires a great deal of fore knowledge that I am not is posession of.

Before this post I was just going to create 7 tiers of the existing heraldic mail to outfit my character specific troop types.  Now I have hopes of going far enough to create a heraldic "embossed" version of the plate armor
  4. Adding new heraldic armors (banner alpha)

Really nice work guys.  Any chance of a quick "howto" when you're done?
  5. Poleaxe - Where have you been all my life?

I love the damn thing way too much.  I love the way it looks covered in blood after couching a few dudes.  And I love swinging it overhead chopping it down onto the heads of defenders, from the second rank behind my meat shields (sorry I mean loyal troops) during a seige.

I love swinging it at the chests of horses as described above, and smashing it over the heads of their riders after they slide to a stop.

All in all I rely on it too much, so I've recently purchased a morning star to vary combat a bit
  6. Most Tempting Targets

Its not an option if the poll, but I love large bands of Deserters.  Mainly because they are the biggest groups of purely high tier units I come accross.  They make for good fights.

Except the 45+ bands of Nord Archers, those dudes are cannon fodder to anyone
  7. 'We surrender'

Yeah I think it only happens when you are fighting steppe bandits.  Either that or its when the bandits attack you rather than when you attack the bandits...
  8. Best/Worst top-tier units in the game

Swadian Knights are easily the best high teir unit in my opinion.  If you let them charge an equal number of any other unit type, without any human intervention, they will clean up.

And the Nord Archers are such a joke I had to mod them to a skirmisher (axes and jarids) line.  I used to think a group of Nord deserters were the ultimate training opportunity, second tier troops wil carve up nord archers.  Now I treat them with a healthy respect
  9. The best tactic?

I line my calvery behind my foot and my foot behind my archers.  The archers pop away unhindered until the enemy get close then I call the charge for the horse and foot.  Tends to work under nearly all situations. roughly half archers and a quarter each of foot and horse.
  10. Who do you want to kill in Warband?

    Ruthven 说:
My question is simple. Is there a single forumite you most wish to destroy in online M&B?

You Ruthven, that googly eye drives me crazy...  I can just imagine you charging accross the plain, lance leveled and dripping blood, wearing a specially designed helm, one with the left side cut away so we can all quiver at the sight of the terrible googly eye....
  11. Most Hated Infantry Unit

I hate anyone with a spear that uses it to stop my horse in the middle of a group of his mates, nothing sends me screaming like a little girls faster than having my horse killed out from under me...

    Naridill 说:
The entire Nord Archer branch, from the hunter down to the vet. Reason being that they're utterly pathetic. They're the worst ranged units in the game, and worse than the worst melee units in the game. I barely let them fight the peasantry, for god's sakes, they're so underbalanced that it hurts, especially compared to Swadian and Rhodok crossbowmen, who are all devastating also in melee, and Vaegir Archers, who are... beyond devastating.

And the Nord archers definatly suck, I replaced the whole archer line with a Nord skirmisher line.  Javelin and Axe throwing mofos, with slightly modded ranged weapons to make them a bit more competative against crossbow men (they have about half the range of the crossbow).  They are a more believable ranged unit for the nords imho.
  12. Would it be possible to make a weapon like this?

you could make two weapons, one being the musket, the other being the musket with bayonet (the equivelant of attaching the bayonette).  You'd then switch from on to the other depending on if you were fighting ranged or mele.  Thats more like how the british fought in the napoleonic times, which is admittedly much later than the period you are describing.
  13. OSP Kit QoL Customize troops feature for your mod

Great code Fisheye, just what I was looking for.

I'm fairly ok with being able to equip my troops with whatever I can afford from the shops, even though I'm only buying one instance of the item.    I'm even OK with all my troops getting the same gear (I like the uniform look) and you can add whatever level of variance you want by giving them more than one weapon type.

I justify this because I am just setting the standard my troops have too meet.  Knights wern't armed by their Kings, they were expected to turn up with the appropriate arms when their king needed them.  So all my elite units get told by me what the minimum standard of equipment is and they loot from the field to get enough money to upgrade, its all part of being a medieval trooper.  And all factored into the experience system.  Also it explains why I get such crap loot from the battles, all my men are getting to the good stuff before I do

The one thing I would like to do to fully justify this idea is raise their weekly cost, to reflect a reasonable expence required to keep them in their uniform tabards, healms and weapons.  I havn't figured out how to set the weekly cost for an individual unit yet, but when I do I'll be able to sleep easy
  14. Polearms

I like to mix it up depending on the density of my opponents, if they are spread out I just go from couch kill to couch kill.  If they are mixed up I go for the thrust, because you miss too many kill opportunities otherwise.  Some times I ride tightening circles, couching off the straggelers to create a "bait ball" then I just ride through it thrusting left a right, great fun.

Couching is also excelent for taking out enemy horses if you just want to unseat a bunch of knights or Khergit lancers.  The lance/polearm doesn't come out of the couch position if you're only killing horses, so I just ride accross the heads or rumps of groups of horses and put the riders on the ground.  I think my best is killing 5 Caravan Guards horses off a single couch, before I accidentally hit an actual caravan guard and my couch ended.
  15. Possible to make factional uniform colors?

I modded Native so every tier 5 troop type had the heraldric armor, so I could diferentiate them on the battlefield.  Worked pretty nice.  I also made it so they had no default weapons or helmets, so I could choose what they would use (all pretty basic stuff).  A charge of 30 Swadian Knights with heraldric armor, matching helmets and horses, using polearms looks pretty sweet

I looked into making a colored sash for troopers to use depending on faction (including the troops from my player faction troop tree) but I don't think anyone really has a handle on how to mod the heraldric armor yet.

  16. Nice Little Tactic

I didn't miss the possible sarcasm, but I prefer to believe the best of people :p
  17. Nice Little Tactic

Yeah I discovered this little trick, then posted it to a apprentice guild post to much the same effect

Still least you had the pleasure of discovering it for yourself

I like to do it with a straight thrust to the face from a single handed sword now days, it just feels more satisfying that way

so what you're telling me is to pass them by and kill them while at it... wow i should try that

It's not so much "pass them by", more like "horse charge them and hit them while they fall", the horse charge breaks their block and leaves them vunerable to the hit from the weapon.  You just need to be hitting them a glancing blow with the horse so they fall where you can hit them with the weapon.  If you ride straight over them they go under the horse.

Usually works best on the right side of your horse as the swing from that side goes lower.  And keep looking at your target through the whole move as that gets the swing lower (because you'll be looking down by the time it hits).

With a little practice you can do it with any mele weapon with a half decent range (maybe not a knife) including a lance thrust, which is particularily satisfying.
  18. Fighting on horseback..........

Try looking at your target through the whole attack, so look down as you pass until the blow connects.  I also fight in first person on horseback, so I can aim and judge the distance to my enemy better.

As for the "bump and grind" (great name by the way), it works best if you release attack as your horse hits the target, beacuse you want to hit him before he falls to far.  I find it easiest with two handed weapons.

YAY I finally got registered. Been busily coding away a few different things, and wanted to post everything as a reference for anybody that wanted to look. A lot of the credit goes to Magelord, at least indirectly, for the 83 tweaks thread. I took a lot of those ideas and rendered them .py. Changelog + link to my .py files below. Last note: within the .py files, you can search for these changes by searching for '#ajm' case insensitive no quotes- Every change should have one of those by it.

Add: my first post, so YAY M&B rocks.

    Hey raowyn

Thanks for this excelent resource, I was intending to do the same but you'ev just saved me the trouble

Now all I have to do is figure out how to get my new player faction troops associated to a village when I capture it, and how to set up the player faction so it has the troops assigned and I'll be golden
  20. Those poor peasants never stood a chance...

I couldn't stop laughing the first time I butchered a load of Peasents.  I mean just watching the 0 damage hits raining down on me as I sat atop my horse and swung at everything in reach.
