  1. Stuttering in all M&B games.

Can you try and install this:

    http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/296.10/296.10-desktop-winxp-32bit-english-whql.exe

That's the driver I'm already using.  As I said in my OP, this issue has been happening for a long time, ever since Warband.  I have upgraded my drivers many times since then.
  2. Stuttering in all M&B games.

Hm, with lowest graphics does that include using direct x 7 instead of 9?

I don't think I've tried it with DX7.  But honestly, I shouldn't have to go that low.  I can run with pretty much everything maxed out and it's perfectly smooth framerate wise in most battles.  It's just the stuttering that's causing problems.
  3. Stuttering in all M&B games.

This has been a problem with my game for a long time, ever since Warband.  It also occurs in With Fire and Sword as well as Napoleonic Wars.  For whatever reason, battles often result in some extreme stuttering.  It only happens when something loads (which is quite often).  For example, when I'm...
  4. Improving vassal relations?

How exactly do I improve the relations with the lords that are under me?  If I grant one of them a fief, I get +10 repuation with them, but -3 for all of my other lords.  Seeing as how I have 8 lords at the moment, that's basically a +10 reputation at the cost of a total -21 reputation.  I'm not...
  5. Lords after finishing off a faction?

I'm at a point where I've started my own kingdom and have almost conquered the Rhodoks but I am wondering what happens to their lords when I do?  Do they join me as vassals?  Or are they gone forever?
  6. Mount and Blade Graphics outdated?

Yeah, comparing sizes, some are way bigger than M&B, but it's not size that matters, it's what you do with it.

Very true.  I remember when Diablo 2 came out and was astonished that it had a 2 GB install.  Yet, of course, those graphics are nowhere near as intensive as M&B.  But for the record, M&B doesn't look half as good as Oblivion.  Even with the graphical enhancement mods it doesn't even come close.  Especially when you factor in the small environments and lack of objects and detail compared to Oblivion.  But Oblivion with graphics mods looks amazing even 3+ years later.  Despite that, M&B is the better game.

  7. Rhodok Spearmen

Mixed armies are not nearly as effective as armies consisting of a single unit.  They're arguably more fun to use, but most of the time you don't even have time to set them up before the enemy is in your face.  Huscarls pale in comparison to Swadian Knights though.  The first disadvantage they have is map speed because they are an unmounted unit which means you can have far fewer of them in your party if you want to catch anything as opposed to knights.  Second, as infantry units they have no shock power whatsoever.  A swadian knight charge literally sends any enemy line flying and separated (yes, even lines of spearmen).  With huscarls, their line is intact when the fighting starts and several enemies can easily gang up on a lone huscarl, both because their formation wasn't broken and because they're nowhere near as fast as a mounted knight.  Third, they aren't as heavily armored, nor do they have a warhorse to soak most of the damage.  They do however tend to do a little more damage over time, but this is negated by the fact that the initial charge of the knights easily wipes 10-15 points of hp away in charge damage from most of the enemies, and the fact that as stated before you can have many more of them before you slow to a crawl on the world map.  The bottom line is, huscarls are good units and are better for sieges, but on the open field they are nothing compared to heavy knights.
  8. One problem I have with fighting on foot.

In addition to making the most of your speed bonus make sure you aim for their head.  This can be nearly impossible if you play in 3rd person because the camera gets in the way when you try to swing high, so play in 1st.  And obviously, if you plan to fight on foot often, pump up your athletics.  With that byrnie and little to no athletics you're going to be moving at a crawl, which will also reduce the speed bonus you're getting.
  9. Your Weapons of Choice.

What two-handed weapon does the most damage on foot?  I'm using a Heavy Battleaxe at the moment and it does 53 damage (forgot the type).  My character has powerstrike of 8 and I'm slaying foes pretty easily, but I'm still finding that enemies with heavier armor take a few swings.  Would picking up a Masterwork two-handed sword be a better option?  I love getting into the thick of battle.

On foot the best weapon is easily the Sword of War.  The masterwork version does 45c and 36p and because piercing damage halves the armor value of an opponent it will inflict more damage than that 53c assuming he's wearing heavy armor.  Not to mention it's much faster than any axe and has a far greater range.  Be sure to move forward and aim for the head to maximize damage.  I just attacked some heavy infantry deserters (can't remember what they were exactly, but heavy Swadian infantry something or other) who were all wearing fairly heavy armor (Mail with Surcoats) and was able to solo 27 of them with my SoW on foot.  23 of them went down in a single hit.

    As for my setup:

    Masterwork Sword of War
Fur Covered Shield (largest shield in the game for the weight)

I usually leave the other two spots empty because speed is very important on foot.  If I do decide to do a little mounted combat I carry a Balanced Heavy Lance in my inventory for just such an occasion.
  10. sledgehammer

It really depends.  Basically, piercing and blunt damage just half the armor value of your opponent.  And, assuming it hasn't changed over the years, armor is calculated by a random value ranging from 1/2 to the actual armor value for a particular location.  If you have a helm with 40 armor, it will block 20-40 damage (avg 30).  So hitting that helm with a blunt/piercing weapon will reduce its average armor value down to 15.  The bottom line is, a blunt of 40 really isn't as good as 53 cutting damage because that blunt weapon is no doubt MUCH slower.  It will do a little more damage against heavily armored opponents, but not that much.  Stick with the 53 cut damage, unless you're going for a particular style.
  11. The exploits of a lone hunter

Welcome to the forums.  I suppose it is theoretically possible to conquer the entire map solo, but next to impossible.  Taking on a heavily defended castle or city without a force at least half their size can be very challenging by itself.  You'd have to master the game and play very cheaply.  I used to play only solo and did very well at it, but this was before sieges were introduced.  Playing as a horse archer would be your best bet though as they can easily destory just about any army by themselves and you could be cheap and use your archery to pick off most of a castles defenders.  In any case, goodluck!
  12. Endurance riding ?

If you read the skill description on leadership, you can see that it is from the days when you could only have so many stacks of units.  That was done away with like a year and a half ago in version .75x or somewhere around there.  I started playing in .623 and even back then there was no endurance riding skill, so that screen is very very old indeed.
  13. Adjusting settings for big battles.

Everyone gets those freezes during battles, although every 2 to 3 sec is odd.  Naturally, the game freezes for a second when troops spawn, and then when I look at my troops for the first time (as if they're being loaded into memory or something), but after that it's fine for the most part.  And this is on a pretty good system (c2d e6850 @ 3.0ghz, 4gig ram, 2 8800GT's in SLI).  What you need to do is put all your settings on minimum and then slowly raise them testing your fps frequently.  Some options may not hurt your framerate at all and make the game look better while other settings that don't seem to change a thing graphically really hurt performance.

Although from my experience with versions .900 and earlier my performance didn't really change at all regardless of my graphics settings on a x1950 pro.  Before that I had a x800xt and when I upgraded my performance only improved about 10-15% when using max settings.  The difference going from a 9800 pro to the x800xt was enormous though when trying to run it on max settings (my framerate literally quadrupled on max).  So from my experience, if you've got an x800 series(or it's nvidia equivalent the 6800 series) or higher you should be able to run the game max without much of a performance hit when compared to low settings.
  14. What exactly does Tactics do?

Well, if you're using the battle size changer and setting it high enough so that both armies field all of their units, there's no point to tactics.  Although I am almost certain it makes more of a difference than just 1 troop.  It depends on your battlesize, but having a battle advantage of even just 1 can mean you fielding 4 or 5 more troops, and them 4 or 5 less.  Bottom liine is, if you're using the default battle size, it's a great skill.  If you're using the battle size changer, it becomes useless.
  15. do i win?

I'm not sure if Orion is joking or is just having a bad day, but either way he's only making himself look bad.  First off, just by the picture alone there is no way to tell if he cheated or not.  And even if he did, it isn't as if there is an auto-aim function so the 14.4 is still his own doing.  Furthermore, scoring that high is mostly luck anyway, especially against a moving target.  Whatever the case, all you've done is bash a new member who was enthusiastic about the game for no reason.  You didn't even use solid logic or demonstrate a good knowledge of game mechanics to do it either.  Here's just a few things.

He's wearing a leather vest and the Strange helmet.  What the hell is that?  Usually people decide on a 'look' once they've accumulated enough cash to do so.  If he has an archery proficiency of 339, he's obviously killed a lot of people, and killing a lot of people always results in having cash.  With cash, you buy more gear.  Who in their right mind buys a leather vest when they've got a character who would probably be around level 20?

And he explained that quite well.  He also mentioned that he was new to the game.  While almost anyone who has played for a while would trade .8 weight for the extra head protection (including myself and I always fight on foot), he either may not see the benefits yet or just not care.  He is also correct about the leather armor.  And again, while most of us would take something slightly heavier (light leather for instance), he may not see it that way.  This particular argument is based upon an assumption and nothing more.  I could however make the same criticism about your armor selection in the earlier part of that video.

81 damage. If he has that much archery proficiency, he obviously spends lots of time using a bow. If you're going to spend a lot of time using a bow, you'll want power draw. On my most recent character, with a power draw of only 5, I've shot people in great helmets for over 100 damage. If he's shooting a vaegir archer in the head for only 81 damage, and vaegir archers don't have much in the way of helmets, then his power draw has got to be extremely low. 1, maybe 2.

I'm not sure why you would even say this since I know you're not that ignorant to the game.  Damage is quite random.  You can hit someone in the head and deal 30 damage and headshot them again for 60.  Even with a warbow and high power draw you will still frequently score damage that low from headshots.  While 100+ is more normal, 81 is certainly possible and not even unlikely.

This whole shmeer is ridiculous! It might be your ridiculously low graphics settings, but to me that looks like a short bow. War bows are a bit longer, and they have very obvious curves.

Even though I play this game maxed I had no trouble telling it was a Warbow.  Yet somehow you turn your case of poor vision around and blame it on his graphics?  Desperate much?

And you honestly dare to insult my knowledge of M&B, and then say that the reinforced flat top helm is the best in terms of defense? Guess we haven't seen the great helmet have we? Or its winged brother?

He did in fact mention that it was the best for its weight.  Which it is.  Nice try though.

Last I checked, damage does not increase with range. It might if there were proper physics for projectiles, but such is not the case. As it is, I can still shoot somebody in the foot at 10 yards and do as much damage as if I had shot them in the foot at 100.

From my experience, damage does decrease with range (I assume the "increase" was a typo).  This is especially noticeable with throwing weapons.  Even with an 8 in throwing and 350 proficiency I will sometimes deal 0 damage to an enemy if I hit him from very far away where as up close I'll be dealing 40-80 damage.  I find it hard to believe someone with experience in archery would not notice this...

    You just fail.

    Clearly...
  16. Throwing weapons must be fixed!

No, I don't, but you do. Hence the requirement for a full system spec bug report. Some people don't have this issue. My reticule turns just fine.  No drag at all. It must be the difference in hardware or drivers or such. If yours does, well, you know the place to post.

Hardcode, we all appreciate your attempt to help, but this is not a hardware issue and is most certainly prevalent on everyone's game.  Hop off your horse, make sure you're in third person, and then prime a weapon before throwing it.  Notice that you can more the cursor around just fine before you release.  Now release and take note of the slight delay that exists between your releasing the mouse button and the actual projectile being thrown.  Now try to adjust your aim during that small interval.  The camera moves fine, but your characters aim does not.  It stays locked where it was when you released the mouse button and does not allow for last second adjustments.  If you really want to notice it, try doing a 180 the instant you release the mouse button.  You will notice that the projectile still goes where you were previously aiming, even though the camera is now facing the opposite direction.  Now try the same thing in first person.  You will notice the bug no longer takes place and the projectile lands where the camera is facing.  Also note that this does not only occur with throwing weapons, but in melee too.  Release an attack and spin the camer in 3rd person after releasing it and you'll notice the attack continues in the same direction despite your camera movement.  Now when you do the exact same thing in first person, the attack follows in the direction of the camera.
  17. Javelins/Jarids underpowered?

Throwing weapons are far from useless and IMO balanced for an unmounted character.  Here's a small list of advantages to them over bows, some of which have been stated before.

-You can have just one weapons slot with them where as with a bow you have to have a seperate slot for the bow.
-Once you use them up you move faster since they are no longer weighing you down.  You have to lug that bow around for the rest of the battle however, even if the speed reduction isn't much.
    -They're faster than bows.
-They can be used much more efficiently while backpeddling away from an angry mob.
-They can be used with a shield.
-You can switch to them very quickly in the heat of combat where as with a bow it seems to take longer to switch and get that first shot off, much longer than the speed difference should account for.
-If you're using the knives or daggers, two slots allow you to carry 32 projectiles where as the same two slots with a bow allow for a max of 28 arrows.
-Once you get your throwing skill up and aim for the head, they're usually 1 hit kills, just like bows.  People seem to not realize this.

As far as using them mounted goes, I'll agree they're near worthless compared to a bow.  But on foot, I'd take throwing daggers over a bow any day unless I'm playing a pure ranged class.

Trust me, it's not just you. It use to be that you could guide your throw even after you let off the button, for the last second aiming adjustments. You can't do that now. Which is why throwing weapons are worse than useless in .950 for anything other than looks. And they use to be my favorite weapons.

They still work perfectly if you play in first person.  I've been playing exclusively in first person ever since about .7xx.  It's just far more immersive.  Negating the camera angle and projectile compensation bugs is just a nice side benefit.
  18. Size fix for new Shields

I posted about this in the "things you don't like about .95x" a couple of days after .950 was released.  It is ridiculous how small the shields are now.  They're almost worthless against projectiles since they provide a false sense of security more than anything else.  I'm using the fur covered shield you find off of mountain bandits that has 81 coverage, and even with 8 points (EIGHT POINTS mind you) in the shield skill, at least 30-40% of all arrows still hit me from the front.  I was ambushed in a town yesterday, and while walking toward two forest bandits with my shield up I was hit twice in the head.  The only chance I have is to evade the arrows entirely...but that defeats the purpose of the shield.  I'm not saying we need the forcefields from the .6xx days brought back, but with 81 coverage and 8 points in shield, it should be virtually impossible to be hit by an arrow from the front.

Moreover, the other day I was peaking over a castle wall while defending, and was trying to run the last attackers out of arrows before finishing them off.  Looking at the model, my entire head was completely covered by the shield graphic, and with the proper positioning it was impossible to see my character at all thanks to the shield and castle wall.  But that didn't stop a javelin from finding its way through the shield model and into my eye.  This was again with 8 points in the shield skill, although based upon the graphic it should have been entirely impossible to score a hit on me even if I didn't have a single point in shields.

Thanks Llew for the fix.  Although rather than larger shields I think the shield skill should just be more beneficial, which would make it worthwhile to put points into it since after browsing the forums for 3 years it seems to me like hardly anyone puts more than 1 or 2 points into it, if they invest in it at all.
  19. how to use Khergits effectively

    It can't be too hard.
    just do slow-mo

Using slow-mo to be more accurate would be a form of cheating.  You may as well just script an aimbot (although programming it to properly lead a target would be difficult).
