Looking at it now, I find it isn't silly. It's outright stupid. My apology to funk, he at least he answered MY question (which is of course still open).

  3. Question about the Crusades

So, from what (apparently little) I've read about the Crusades, I take it it took the crusaders great struggle to seize the holy land and they weren't that good at keeping it either. The arab forces greatly outnumbered them and to them, the crusaders were something like a border skirmish. And...

  12. Vihan tunteet

Somewhere along the line, sä tuut ymmärtämään maailmaa.

  13. HELP: Asking for advices about detailled books on military history....

    Kogrimar 说:
I don't want fictional books, neithersoldier memories ( hard to find in the eras i'm searching for )  . More some kind of historical analysis of the ways some people, countries were dominating in some the eras I want. So strategic/tactical is okay, but with an extrapolation to historical facts ( chinese dominations in some lands....)
War analysis are of course okay.
For example, if I want to understand why macedonians dominated in their lands at a defined moment, i would like to understand the military , political, social, natural..........reasons.

Concerning those Macedonians, I found a very good book. It's Alexander the Great at War by Ruth Sheppard. It starts out detailing the backgrounds of Alexander's life, like the political history of the Greek states and the Persian empire up to that point. I was shocked to learn the Spartans had, for a long time, been "in bed with the Persians" (not literally of course).

  16. How to invade Russia?

    Gule 说:
I had an idea about building large factories and then use them to rapidly build 10.000 JAS Gripen jets, and just fly across the baltic and bomb the crap out of them. Yes, Sweden vs. Russia, round (what is it now, 8?). The last time you took Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and you degraded us from being the superpower of the north to nothing. Well, we have been saving ourselves for 200 years now, it is about time we STRIKE BACK!

Piss off, Gule. Finland is its own sovereign for the first time in centuries and, along with Estonia, the last bastion of the Uralics. You and we have over seven hundred years worth of unfinished business. You take us for booze-smelling barbarians, but you forget that our army is bigger than yours, Norway's, Denmark's and the Baltic countries combined. ? Remember my ancestor, Jaakko Ilkka, who led the Finnish rebels? All of whom your people slaughtered 'cos we just can't have those Uralics live just little more comfortably.
Sweden's fall from grace is rather a divine retribution, you well deserve it. As for the business with the Russians, its our business. A smackdown must be brought unto the other Indo-european menace also. They tried to destroy us with their Russianisation-policy. They will also pay for the lives lost in the Winter War and the Continuation War. And for having interfered with our politics during the Cold War. And for still russianising the last few Uralic groups left in Russia. And for not being able to admit the fact that you weren't the good guys of WWII. And of course... for ruining our Karelia.
As for those turncoat Hungarians who refuse to accept relation to us - instead being in favor of being related to the Turks, or even more ludicrously with the Sumers - I pity them. Making up tenuous claims to be related the Turks and Sumers. Sure, we aren't empire-builders or creators of civilization. We can't change that! But I ask of the Hungarians: What good is it to be the heirs of a fallen empire? It's like with the Italians: They like to identify themselves as the descendants of the glorious Rome from Augustus' days et cetera, so they won't have to face the fact that they suck. Indeed, they bear more resemblance to the debauched, corrupt, spineless latter-day Romans, who just paid everyone to not hurt them and who eventually got annihilated by people who actually were awesome.

    ...
 Just kidding people, I'm not all that fanatic. And a special apology to the Italians here. I don't hate you; just stop getting all riled up with the fascism and face the fact that you are not "Roma Gloriosa" and never will be.

Anyways, thanks for Sensei and the rest for reminding me that we Uralics can still at least put up a protest against Indo-european oppression.

    1) Sure, Calradia is much like historical Europe, what with the Khergits representing the Ottoman empire, among other things.

.. What? Khergits are rather obviously based on Mongols, and well, while it's obviously so that Calradia is indeed not Europe, two-weapon fighting is not realistic, it makes one very susceptible to enemy attacks, and it's very difficult to fight properly with two weapons. Other people have explained this a lot better than me, in this thread. I, for one, would rather not have dual wielding.
Indeed I know the Khergits are based mongols. Savvy? However, as the Mongols, to my knowledge, had no distinct mongol cities/towns (exception Karakorum) they don't completely match Khergits. Secondly, the Mongols were rather briefly in Europe (exception Russia) while the Ottomans were in Europe for multiple centuries. Case Closed.

100% disagree with both of you. I don't find dual-wielding unrealistic. Heck, there are many martial arts styles, historical and modern, that include it.
However, even if it was unrealistic. What would it matter?
Name a battlefield martial art incorporating two weapons.

2)Even if dual-wielding is unrealistic to you; is it unbelievable? Realism is not a synonym to fun, so why not settle for believability. Dual-wielding seems like fun, it wouldn't unbalance the game. We're not even sure how it would be implemented.
Chose 1 of any of the following:
    • Better combat AI
    • Better graphics and/or animations.
    • Better map AI
    • Better map options
    • Better battlefield orders
    • Better weapon/armor balance and interaction
    • Multiplayer support
    • Destichado's brilliant secondary attack suggestion
    • Dual wielding
    • [insert another suggestion here]
The point is not to remove dual-wielding altogether.  Its that as an option for the dev team to be working on, I personally believe that it should be very, very low on the totem pole.

I thank you for the question. I was never big into the graphics department, learning in my Console Wars days that good graphics do not make a good game. So, set better graphics to be the lowest priority.
While I'm ill versed in historical European MA, to name a few asian ones:
    Kuk Sool Won
    Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu
(I believe Kashima Shinryu also incorporates two-weapon fighting.)
Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu (albeit battlefield use is uncertain)
    Kalaripayattu
Okinawan Kobudo (through that, some styles of Karate: implementation of dual sais, dual tonfas etc.)
    Kali or Escrima
    Quite a few. Case Closed.

  20. Body stacker, terrain height and squad command.

Really? I figured the command system was too primitive.

Don't you feel bad at all that the only existing tactic in this game is "lol CHAREG!!!!111"?

The backspace tactics screen, as of now, is very inefficient. When defending in a siege, if you accidentally command the archers in any way, the give up their tactical positions at the two sides of the ladder/tower bridge, and it is irreversible.
Or, if you have an infantry army on the steppes/plains fighting against cavalry, there's no way to tell your men to huddle up and assume a formation, which would be the only sensible tactic in the situation.

Me, I'm in favor of adding tactical elements (read depth) to the game.
