  1. Mount & Blade is up on Amazon.com - Make your voice heard.

Dude, you are promoting smoking with your avatar!   Other people are clearly promoting murder and death.  I am just promoting kissing a pretty girl.   My wife is Asian so it reminds me of her.

And how in the world could that possibly be NSFW?
  2. Mount & Blade is up on Amazon.com - Make your voice heard.

Thanks Maelstorm for your answer in the other thread about bug testing.

I will make sure to post an Amazon.com review and put in some bits about the community and mods.  Every other review that allows comments I have ever seen has been full of voices form this forum so I am certain Amazon.com will be the same in the end.
  3. When is the pre-release release? We have to bug test it!

That may be, but it seems to me that if they done anything besides polishing the graphics by adding new models and textures it needs to be bug tested.  Otherwise you are gonna have people buying a box game the first week, load it up and hit some obscure error that the few people working on the game would never find in a million years.  You have to have the teaming masses of people who frequent this forum find this stuff before average Joe goes to town.

I suppose if it is going to be released on 9/18/08 then it must already be off at some factory being printed, boxed and stacked.

  5. When is the pre-release release? We have to bug test it!

Howdy, Seriously, the team needs to release the 1.0 version to us to bug test for a few weeks before it is actually released.  You don't want the legions of noob fanboys in here talking S about the game because of the bugs we see in every other release.  So, when do the hardcore fans who have...
  6. SP Sci-Fi "Bitter Earth" (Mod is dead... p.160 )

Howdy, looks like things are coming along very well!  My big suggestion is put the final download(s) up on the various free servers like rapidshare as well.  I live in another country and I can never get a download to complete from the mnbrepository site since they banned download accelerators that break up the downloads into different pieces.
  7. SP Sci-Fi "Bitter Earth" (Mod is dead... p.160 )

The standard action is to send you a take down letter.  They basically inform you that you are infringing and give you at least some time to rectify it before they actually sue you.  This makes sense since they know that you aren't making any money and what you are doing is harmless.  There are a very few groups that will go after you for this stuff.  But since you aren't doing Disney, using current pop hits or something the litigious groups care about then I don't think you need to worry about copyright.

Since even take down letters for this type of stuff is exceedingly rare I would suggest you just keep doing what you want to do exactly the way you want to do it.

If you were to actually get a letter then reply immediately stating that you will comply and tell them the steps you will take.  Then change the name or remove the song or whatever and you'll be fine.  I've never heard of gun makes ever complaining over their guns being used.
  8. Tutorial request: Combine tutorials for a basic all-in-one

Well, first off all this stuff is foundational.  You can't do anything unless you can do this type of stuff.  It is a huge barrier to entry to have to spend 15 or 20 hours, at least, to find the info to do this basic stuff that an experienced person can do very very quickly.

Secondly, one of the big problems in M&B is lack of content.  Now, I don't know if this is possible.  But could you have 20, 30, 50 people make a variety of quests and encounters and fold them all into one mod?  Would it be incredibly difficult if everyone sent the appropriate files to put 400 encounters/quests into a mod.  I know it would take a while but would it take 2-3 minutes per encounter or an hour?

Because if it is fairly simple then you could have a lot of lesser modders taking these basic tools to build an encounter.  Send the files off to a triage committee along with recommended level and the committee member plays the encounter and is maybe willing to make an easy fix or two if necessary.  If the encounter makes the cut they fold them together and send sections of ten or so to the final person who sticks it into the random encounter section.

If it is closer to 3-5 minutes to fold in I'd be happy to make at least 10 encounters or quests (example, reach level 10 and the next merchant offers the quest.)  And I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see a bunch of random encounters folded into something like Band of Warriors.

Look at Oblivion.  The map is dotted with shrines, many associated with quests or minimum requirements that lead essentially to dungeons.  Once you have these tools, and maybe a resource pack with some shrine scene objects and/or zombies, ghosts, skeletons then you could have people like me put together lots of "dungeons" with associated quests fairly easily.  And once you have the system going if someone like Yoshi deigns to contribute one then you know it will be an awesome one.

Just an idea but even if the hundreds of encounters idea isn't possible I would still like to see this basic tutorial put together.  I'd almost certainly never make a big mod but I'd certainly be interested in putting together a quest line that takes you through an hour of play or two.  Perhaps I'm wrong but it seems that that would be fairly simple with this basic info.  If the mini-modder is a good story/dialog writer it would be lots of fun for the M&B community to play as a diversion.
  9. Solo tactics

I think this last round of version upgrades I started probably 4 characters.  The highest I've ever gotten a character is about level 20.  I wouldn't cheat to level 35 but I wouldn't feel bad about cheating to level 8-10.  Those come fairly quickly anyway and it is only about then that you've got yourself and your team in good enough position to have really fun battles.

As to being a solo fighter that isn't my thing.  I've had to solo 10-15 guys when my army got slaughtered though.  I hate when that happens.  Starts off feeling high pressure then gets boring because it takes a while.  And it's completely unrealistic that you can win at that point.

Usually I find circling does a pretty good job of confusing the archers.  They pretty much always just miss you.  Just keep picking off the guys on the outside edge of the circle.  Using a lance can make fairly short work of them.
  10. Tutorial request: Combine tutorials for a basic all-in-one

Howdy, A couple of months ago I tried to build a simple encounter.  All in all I spent six hours of searching the forums and got as far and building a new scene and getting an NPC into it along with a portal into a house with a chest.  I gave up when I couldn't find any understandable/updated...
  11. SP Sci-Fi "Bitter Earth" (Mod is dead... p.160 )

I think there is some kind of flora mod that strips the trees of their leaves.  If I'm remembering correctly do you plan to put this in?  I think it would help both the atmosphere and performance.
  12. SP Sci-Fi "Bitter Earth" (Mod is dead... p.160 )

Wow!   This looks like it's gonna be a great mod.  I can't help with the modding but I made this poor piece of fan art as applause for your efforts.

Let's hope a shotgun blast point blank to the noggin is enough to finish the job."
  13. M&B Year

I thought heavy armor fell out of favor as a result of crossbows, not firearms.  My, perhaps incorrect, understanding was that crossbows could easily puncture armor so once they became widespread that was the end of plate armor because suddenly plate couldn't protect you but would still slow you down.
  14. Multiple Battles in One Scene? is one of the questions

First off thanks for all the helpfulness I've received thus far while asking questions. Okay, I've got all my objects in my scene.  Figured out how to put an NPC in there and have found some posts on dialogs/quests that I can't understand yet.  :D  Stuck right now on adding hostile troops into...

And their party skills are very useful as well - just don't keep your ones at 0 so it would compensate for the relative loss.
I disagree. Investing in these skills yourself to reduce the penalties ultimately wastes more skillpoints than it saves.

Bad- There is a ton of content waiting for next versions and I'm already antsy.  You know there has gotta be more heroes inthe final game.  As to wasting skillpoints -- You've gotta put your points in something there just aren't enough combat skills (especially since I don't use bows) to soak up all your  skill points, so it works out.  And if you want to make sure all your heroes are top fighters while have good skills just play the great Band of Warriors mod.  That way you have SIX heroes and Marta starts pretty much maxed out with healing skills. (plus marnid and borcha start at level 1 -- great!)  This way you can distribute your skills among the party and they can all turn into top flight fighters as well.  Once you get to level 10 or 15 you have them all with very serviceable equipment and decent level skills.

I love the little caravan guy.  I don't play with maxed graphics much anymore but they sure are pretty when I use them.

Ugly:  I hope AI tweaking is on the top of the list next version go round.  Scalable skeletons and whatever the modders need for their leetness would be fine too.

  18. Basic In-Game Editor Problems

First off, thank you.  Yes, I'm in windowed mode.

Okay, by holding down the various letters and then moving the mouse you can change position of items.  Once you place an item in game is there a simple was to remove it?  For example if I'm looking at tables to see which one is best can I get rid of the ones I don't want?  Or since I'm altering the Salt Mine scene how do I remove objects I don't want.

Seriously, "H" does nothing for me and I spent hours searching posts/tutorials/guides on this before I decided to bother you guys.

As for your in-game editor problems, you move things with the keyboard and mouse. If I recall correctly, press H while in Edit Mode for a list of key commands (displayed in the top left corner of your screen).
First off, thanks for the response and answering the question of why I couldn't enter the town.  As to help commands:

I tried it again.  I pressed "h", "H".  I held down "h", "H".  I moved the Editor box (with the list of objects, etc) around to make sure the commands weren't popping up behind them.  Really, its not working for me.  I tried pressing buttons, random buttons.  Function buttons, numbers, letters.  Nothing, nada, zip.  I'd produce video for proof but I can't show me pressing "H" and the screen at the same time.

Hey, I'm not asking or expecting the forums to turn into Kumbya-land where we spend our time sitting in a circle, holding hands and braiding flowers into each other's hair (though flowers would look pretty in my blond locks.)  Anytime anyone is a punk I say feel free to put 'em down and out.   But punk is different from clueless.
