  1. what the hell did you guys do with the Rhodoks

It is funny how each game plays out differently.

In my current game the Rhodoks got their asses handed to them by the Nords before I even joined a faction.

They were down to 1 town and 3 castles before I even joined a faction or went to war against them.  I feared they would disappear so I joined the Nords, and I did the quest to get peace between the Nords and Rhodoks.  I feared that if I didn't do this the Rhodiks would simply vanish before their time.

I have now destroyed the Khergit nation and will soon destroy the Swadian and Vaegir.  I will probably leave the Rhodoks until the end as they are barely a faction at this point.

I felt sorry for the poor Rhodoks.

    - Livonya

PS:  There is one thing that you can do as the player that is almost unfair that pretty much will guarantee that a faction will disappear.  If you belong to a faction but go to war against another faction independently of your faction... for example I am with the Nords, but the Nords are at peace with the Rhodoks, but I personally am at war with the Rhodoks.  Every time I take a castle or city that belongs to the Rhodoks I ask for no reward.  Thus that city/castle is given to my faction, but since the Rhodoks are NOT at war with my faction they do NOT attempt to retake it.  It puts them at a massive disadvantage.

I have had this sort of problem before if I REMOVE something.

The save game is using a certain number of triggers or items, and then you try to load it with a game system that has less triggers or items so it goes error.

So in my opinion your problem isn't that you need to remove something, but that you need to add something.

I could be wrong, I am not expert, but that was what happened to me.

  3. Nords vs Cavalry.

    imsorry 说:
Hill and river are the only hope. If you have no Cavalry at all while facing Swadian knights in the plain, you are doomed. my 40 Swadian knights killed 150 nords with only 3 dead.

This simply isn't true when you are in control of the ground forces.

The AI doesn't hold a line, doesn't bunch together, and simply doesn't react in a dynamic way to what is going on.

If you give me control of the 150 nords then I will crush your 40 Swadian knights like villagers.

My Nord infantry doesn't need a hill or a river to take on calvary.  All we need is a commander that keeps his/her head and gives good directions.

Hold the line, bunch together, charge when appropriate, move to this spot, hold the line, bunch together, charge...

The AI simply doesn't give good commands.

No matter what army I have I will win due to the fact that I can think and react.

  4. which melee weapon are you using now?

It depends on what nation I am role-playing.

If I am Nord then I start with a sword, switch to an axe, and once I have enough skill I will switch to a heavy spiked mace, or a war pick, something with pierce.

In geneneral I start with the fastest weapon I can find that fits my nation's spirit, and then eventually switch to something slower and heavier that does pierce damage.

  5. Nords vs Cavalry.

You don't need to stand on a hill, though that can work.

    Here is what I do.

    1) Archer Calvary is approaching slowly

Try to keep a small hill or rise in elevation between you and the enemy line.  Keep moving to maintain this.  Keep your men in line and close together by pressing 8.

If there is no elevation then draw a line, and press 6 over and over again to advance quickly.  MAINTAIN YOUR LINE.

Once the calvary hits your line allow your men to attack freely, but as soon as they start to scatter order them back into a line.

The line is good, but it does prevent your men from ganging up on the enemy, so you want to alternate between charge and line depending on the situation.

Being in line can be bad, so alternate between the line and charge.

    2) Non-Archer Calvary is approaching slowly

In this case get line of sight and hold the line and wait. (stay close to your spawn point and far from their spawn point).

Alternate between line and charge.  Remember do NOT allow your troops to scatter!!

    3) Calvary is approaching fast

Hold the line and then alternate between line and charge. (stay close to your spawn point and far from their spawn point).

A well commanded line of nords will munch through calvary.  The key is commanding them correctly, and not getting shot yourself.

I play with normal damage and normal settings with 100 troop size (107% difficulty).

The main problem I have using ground forces to take out calvary is that I get shot or lanced.  To avoid this I stay in the middle of my troop line, and if I can I stay near a tree, rock, or a horse.  The horses make create barriers so keep your line, and yourself near the horses.

Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line, Charge, Hold the Line... VICTORY!!!

    Sort of.

Actually, you already have that option, but if you try to attack the caravan you get the penalty for attacking a caravan, but you don't actually get to attack it.  It is really weird.  It is half assed.

So yes, I want to be able to attack the caravan, and take a relationship hit.

The 31 2 144115188075856037 0 is an operation checking if $encountered_party_friendly equals 0. That global variable is set to 1 (thus the option to attack isn't available) if your relation is above 0. So if you remove the blue part and then minus 1 from each of the red numbers (since you're removing an operation) it will allow you to attack even if you have positive relation.

The look is important to me.

What I do in my game is make multiple version of each armor/helmet/boots and then I change the model.

So for instance if I want to upgrade to the heavy plate mail then I can choose any look I want.

I make sure to ONLY change the look, so the balance is the same.

My horse archer is wearing heavy plate armor, but it looks like fur armor.  The cost/weight/protection is all plate armor, but the look is fur.

Item editing is really easy, and works with save games.

  8. Compilation of 82 little tweaks to the text files to change your gameplay(links)

I have a request that may be beyond the scope of this project, as it involves a dialog fix.

    The situation:

The player has a positive relationship with a faction.
The player is not at war with that faction.
The player decides to raid a caravan from that faction.

    The problem:

The player can attempt to raid the caravan, and will then take a relationship hit, however, when you get to the start the battle screen the only option that is given to the player is "Leave".

So you take the relationship hit, but don't actually get to raid the caravan.

If the player raids the caravan over and over again, taking a relationship hit each time, then the player will eventually be able to start combat once the relationship is less than 0.

    It is quite annoying.

I had a situation last night where I helped a caravan from a friendly faction, and they ended up getting 75 prisoners, but the caravan only had 7 units left.  So this will just be free troops for my enemies.  I have a positive 35+ relationship with the caravan's faction, and I am willing to take the faction hit to get those prisoners, but in reality I have to take my relationship to -14 in order to actually take the caravan.  Silly.

    Thanks.

In my experience, you don't want to win the rebellion with lords captured. As far as I can tell they stay captured after you win, so you basically cripple your faction.

It is best to hold off on winning the rebellion until they have all escaped or have been ransomed.

At least that is how it has been for me.

  12. Mount & Blade siege sucks

    Cloud Breaker 说:
My reference to skewed realism was the fact that you cannot win a town siege with 1:1 or even 1:2 casualties unless there is a superhuman unit (usually you) in the besieging army which is capable killing a large number of enemy troops alone.

It can be done, but you have to use some sort of tactics, which will depend on the make up of your army.

    Each castle/town is different.

    Tactics that I use:

If I have archers. Go to side and ignore the ramp.  Get your archers in a place to take out one wall/missle tower at a time.  Once you have some of the archers/crossbow men taken out then let your infantry advance the ramp while your missile uniits stand at the bottom.

If your infantry starts doing badly, have them come down the ramp, time your attacks with the arrival of reinforcements.

If you have mostly infantry then storm with your strongest infantry, and then set up an archer line on the top of the wall once you punch a hole into their line.

At first I found town/castle assaults to be very random, but with more practice I learned how to use commands to get the best bang for my buck.

Some castle/towns are very easy depending on the terrain.  Some that have hills can make it very easy for archers.

The main thing is that unless you have a lot of heavy infantry it is best to not storm the ramp asap.  Let your archers/missile units do their thing before you storm.

And it really helps to watch the enemy/friendly ratio to look for the best time to push for the final assault.

Once you are past the ramp don't forget to command your units.

If you can flank the enemy it really helps to thin their numbers quickly.

    - Livonya

PS:  And don't forget that once your archers/missile units are out of ammo they need to be moved so they don't just stand there getting shot.
  13. Any more Mount&Blade Versions to come?

    Moss 说:
There isn't any extra "knocking down the gates" thing, the castle he saw in the trailer is already in game, it's one of the wooden ones. It starts with the gate down, then you have to storm through and climb a short ramp onto the walls inside the castle, it's actually one of the most brutal and difficult castles to take.

Actually, I think that castle is a lot easier than most, and more interesting, as it allows some strategy.

You can tell your troops to follow you and just go to one side and park your troops.  Your troops can deal with the ranged weapon enemy on the wall, while you go to the entrance and shoot the ranged weapon enemy units while using the entrance as cover.

Once you have taken out some of the shooters, then advance into the middle, but don't go up the ramp.  Now take out more of the enemy ranged units.

And then head of the ramp.

Much more fun then the normal siege as you can actually give some tactical orders that can help the outcome.

Have you ever tried a game not liked it and went straight to trying its mods?

    Yes, many, many, many times.

Sometimes I ONLY buy a game for the MOD (for instance Rome:Total War and the 1st Dungeon Seige).

I love M&B, but honestly, I think native is bland compared to The Last Days or to Onin No Ran.

Every time I have showed M&B to any of my friends I have showed them a MOD, and not native.

Most of my time playing M&B has been with MODs.

I am glad that M&B doesn't have more of a story as that doesn't get in the way of the MODs.  I think it is perfect as a sandbox game.

However, the MODs allow each person to find that something special that makes M&B that much better.

If it wasn't for the MOD community then this game might have died a long time ago.

I really think TaleWorlds support for the MOD community is what has made M&B as good as it is...

Seriously, if you can't get hooked on M&B without mods, then you have a problem. And unless you can prove that they are losing customers just because they haven't released the module system yet, I wouldn't really go there.

I have seen comments on other forums that lead me to believe this is a problem.  A lot of people that aren't M&B freaks don't actually like native because it doesn't have enough story/rpg elements.

I realize that the M&B fan base can wait, but not all new customers or potential customers want a sandbox game with no story/goals.

Those people aren't going to post here because they aren't playing the game.

The defence that M&B fans offer is the MODs will fix that, but right now the MODs aren't fixing that.  So it is a pretty weak defence.

I think the MOD community is the true strength of M&B and I think it is a shame that the game is only partially released.

Of course I can't prove anything, but I have seen plenty of negative statements about M&B and most of them are directed to native, or can be negated by one of the great mods.

I want M&B to be huge.  I love the game.  So I want TaleWorlds to release the whole package and not just the native version.

Once the module system is done I will never ever play native again.  I don't think I am alone in that.

I don't disagree, but that system isn't okay now that the game is commercially available.

    They are losing customers.

A new player that comes to see what M&B is about NEEDS to experience some of the fantastic mods.

It doesn't matter to me, personally, as I already bought the game years ago and I can come back in a month and I will still be happy.

But new players aren't going to always come back.
  18. Fighting without shields

I have to agree with the original poster.

Without a shield there is too much luck involved.

I can go without a shield using bow and arrow.

But for melee no shield means death due to bad luck.

The only time I use two-handed weapons is when they can be used both as 1-handed and 2-handed.  There are times when it is safe to go 2-handed but most of the time I need a shield.

Personally, I think there should be 4 weapon slots AND a dedicated shield spot.

A shield can be used to block against more than 1 enemy unit.

I can't tell you how many times I have found myself mobbed, and the only thing that saved me was ordering my calvary to come to follow me while I cowered behind my shield hoping the calvary would arrive before the shield broke.

I have hundreds, and hundreds of hours playing.

Plus try doing a siege without a shield.  It is possible with a ranged weapon, but try it with a melee weapon.

You either sit out of enemy range and twidle your fingers, or you die.

    I need a shield.

  19. Any news on the new module system?

I have to admit, I think TaleWorlds is making a MASSIVE mistake by delaying the release of the module system.

M&B without mods is a COMPLETELY different game than M&B with mods.

And right now is when new players are going to be showing interest.

The M&B community is losing players each and every day that the mods are unavailable.
