    Thanks for the comments, guys, this shape is a keeper, then  :grin:

    @Bava: Looks nice and a lot less dangerous to wear without a thick aventail than the last one, but I think the rim and faceplate are very thick if it's meant to be realistic and the edges on the metal too soft in places.

    I usually add some thickness to objects like this as 3D models have the tendency to appear paper-thin if one uses real-life measurements. But I´ll see if it looks too thick once in-game and make some adjustements if necessary.

    Get that bad boy textured.

    Already done, pics to come soon™, he.
    The helmet will be painted, haven´t found a satisfying colour scheme yet.

    Btw, the mail coif under the helmet is from 1257AD, I needed one the get the space between the rim and head right.

    Wouldn´t it be easier to apply the AO map to the diffuse via layers with Gimp/PS? Much better control imo.

    It feels a little too short in height, though. I saw that type in museums in younger years, and they were just a little taller...

    Mod idea collection: I want this mod.

    A remake of Tides of Conquest: Sicily.
    Was a totally awesome mod for M&B .808, slightly buggy, though.

    The setting would be perfect for WB with rather small engagements and raids, a rich cultural background (Muslims, Byzantines, Italians, Normans) to draw upon and no need for a overly big world map.

    I think I´ll keep it for the WoIaF version of my char. A pity we can´t headbutt people in M&B.

    First high poly sketch for the norman helmet is pretty much done, not sure about the faceplate, but it does have a certain appeal (in my opinion, that is :p)

    Shaping up nicely, I´m glad you could solve your problem.

    Tried to improve some of the weak points of my textures for the sword:

    I remade the grip (the highpoly for it was fun, screw modifier ftw!) and increased the contrast for leather and metal on the spec map.
    Hope it looks a bit more interesting now :smile:

    Time to start with the concept sketches for the helmet of the char.

    If there's something to add, maybe try giving some treatment to the upper leather border of the scabbard, it ends too abruptly.

    *facepalm*

    I knew I forgot something: the round border and sewing at the top of the rain protection.

    Will change this and the cross when I add the suspension for the scabbard.

    You may also want to work on metal/leather transitions, some small border highlights on the metal works wonders.

    I´m not a big fan of highlights on the diffuse, I usually texture paint a black/white map for scratches and highlights in Blender and add it to the spec map and/or import it as layer mask of a darker version of the diffuse over a bright diffuse.
    But I´ll try to improve the leather/metal contrast :smile:

    I wouldn´t call them fantastic :razz:
    And as I said, they´re part of a personal project for a char I can use in 1257AD and AWoIaF (sword, axe, bow, mail and a helmet), most probably based on a Siculo-Norman knight around 1150. If I´m really happy with the result, I´ll think about an OSP, though. Or a 'donation' for Produno´s mod. If he wants them, that is.

    I would recommend toolbag 2 :razz:

    Hm, wouldn´t be worth the effort. I´m a hobbyist and don´t need fancy pics for a demo reel. The renders I´ve shown are quick and dirty 20-30 seconds renders and part of my workflow, as sometimes you can spot mesh/texture errors more easily on a render than in Blender´s GSLS mode.
