FuryFire, I have to ask: is your sig from the Ciaphas Cain books? If so, you win a danish.
I'm not entirely sure I agree with the preference for the look of the curved arquebus over the stocky caliver, but I think I can see where people are coming from on that, especially when matched with the kettle helmet.
One of the other aesthetic problems with the arquebus, however, is that it doesn't really fit the overall design of the IS forces, which are based off of Prussian stuff around the time of the unification of Germany, which took place during the middle of the 19th century. The arquebus (for which there is apparently some kind of debate over the terminology which I'm not even going to try to solve, so here it refers to the gun in the mod) as it is featured in the mod seems to be a matchlock, which quite apart from the fact that it would have been supplanted by flintlocks, looks really out-of-place when compared with the rest of the IS gear, since it's a weapon more suitable to, say, the 17th century (hence, why it's used by the Laurians with their pike formations).
To see what I mean, look at this picture:
Snazzy looking fellows, aren't they? They might've just come back from leave in L'Renouille. Now look at this picture:
While equally splendid in his outfit, he is not quite from the same period, though he would fit in just fine in a Laurian formation ...
... right above my gun sights, swish Laurian bastards --
-- erm, where was I?

Ah, right. While TEATRC handles the anachronism of its various forces rather well, this one is just kinda jarring.
The other thing that confuses me is that as far as balance goes, the arquebus and caliver don't actually seem that far off. Here's how they compare stat-wise, as listed from the troop tree window (which is awesome, BTW):
Arquebus
- Damage: 100(piercing)
- Accuracy: 70
- Speed: 38
- Cost: 640 (dunno if this factors into troop upgrade cost or not)
Caliver
- Damage: 110(piercing)
- Accuracy: 72
- Speed: 38
- Cost: 920
Cost is the greatest difference. Like I said, I don't know if that factors into troop costs; I used the Unofficial Troop Editor to fit my Infantry with calivers, and they cost 24 denars to upgrade, and 22 per a week. I'm guessing troop upgrades are based on tier, not equipment.
Damage is the next biggest difference, but in this case it's really not that large of a difference. Ordinarily I would call 10 points a significant difference, but considering that the arquebus already does
100, the difference isn't all that large. The caliver only does 10% more damage than the caliver.
Accuracy is the next difference, and for that it's a matter of two points. I'm not an expert on how accuracy works, but that does not seem like a very great difference.
Speed is that last issue, and this one surprised me, because apparently the arquebus is just as fast a weapon as the caliver.
Now, since the Kaiserlicher Infantry troop is higher-level than the Recruit, and thus has higher agility and a better Firearms score, he gets more out of his weapon than the Recruit, it's true. But considering the fairly small differences between the two weapons, I doubt that giving them calivers would make them vastly more powerful. It certainly doesn't seem to have in my game -- though sometimes I wish it did.
