Hey anyone know if you can take a castle without swearing allegiance to a faction? ( I'm on ps4) and I really don't want to bow to another faction to get my castle. So if anyone knows tell me asap please. Much thanks kind ser/lady in advance.
M'lord I wouldn't recommend you to create your own faction early in the game, cuz even if you take that castle it will be really hard to hold it against the other kingdom, and besides, without Right to Rule nobody will swore allegiance to you, cuz in their eyes all they see is an usurper that they will not accept as their king/queen.

So first, work to any kingdom as mercenary, to grow your influence, and when you get a high Right to Rule and good influence with most lords start your kingdom.

    A good strategy for companions

    Maximus Decimus Meridius1 说:
Unlike most games, Mount & Blade has a ton of information you need to know before you start playing.  As I surround the last 8 fiefs of Rhodoks, the only remaining original faction, I thought I would share the strategy I used for configuring the companions. The idea is to turn the companions into an elite heavy cavalry. I found this strategy to be very effective. I found it on this forum although I tweaked it a little. A lot of this information wasn’t part of the original strategy. It’s my own opinions. My current game is the second time that I have played Warband and the first time that I have used this configuration for companions.

Most important skill groups in order of importance

    1) Scout – Pathfinding might be the most important skill in the game. Being able to run away from  enemies and catch up to enemies is crucial
    2) Doctor – Wound treatment is the most important medical skill and one of the most important skills in the game because it affects everyone in your party after every battle
    3) Engineer – The Engineer skill is crucial during the mid-game because it allows you to build siege items and prison towers
    4) Looter – Training Looting is useful because it increases the amount of loot you get after a battle and when looting villages
You want 8 companions to learn as many of the skills in these groups as possible so you don’t have to.

    Companions
This is just the important info. For more info, I suggest you read about companions in a strategy guide. Just Google for one. You want 8 companions that won’t argue.

Think of it as 2 groups of 5:

    Jeremus, Deshavi, Klethi, Bunduk, Ymira
    or
    Artimenner, Borcha, Lezalit, Matheld, Rolf

    and 2 groups of 3:

    Alayen, Baheshtur, Firentis
    or
    Marnid, Nizar, Katrin

Choose 1 group of 5 and 1 group of 3 and you’ll be fine. Four of the companions you choose will be known as “skill monkeys” because they will start with Intelligence skills. Four will be called “fighters” because they will start with combat skills.

    The best companions:
I think the best group of 5 is Jeremus, Deshavi, Klethi, Bunduk, Ymira.

I say this for two reasons
    1) Better People Right from the Start
Deshavi is the best scout and Ymira will become the best doctor. That means this group of 5 has or will have the most well trained companions in the 2 most important skill groups. Also, Klethi is the best choice for Looter because she starts with the highest Agility level and her character level is only 2.

    2) Lower Average Starting Character Level
The Jermus group has an average starting character level of 3.6, much lower than the Artimenner group’s 6.4.

The Artimenner group has the best engineer and 25 point higher average starting proficiencies than the Jeremus group. These advantages don’t compensate for its disadvantages.

For a group of 3, I went with Marnid, Nizar and Katrin. I thought Katrin’s training in Trade would be helpful. This is only my second time playing Warband and I think the Marnid group was a mistake. Katrin is a slow learner because of her high starting character level and after nearly completing the mid-game it’s clear that Trade is the least important skill. Katrin was always far behind the others along with Bunduk. Next time I will go with Alayen, Baheshtur and Firentis.

Although the skills the two groups of 3 have to offer is very different, the amount of training they’ve had is very similar. Also, the two groups have a nearly identical average starting character level but the Alayen group has 35 point higher average starting proficiencies. Alayen, Baheshtur and Firentis all start at least 2 levels lower than Katrin but have starting proficiencies at least 20 points higher than Katrin. Compared to the other companions, the Alayen group won’t be the fastest learners but they won’t be the slowest. They should be near the middle of the pack and much faster than Katrin.

So the companions I recommend are:

    Jeremus, Deshavi, Klethi, Bunduk, Ymira
    and
    Alayen, Baheshtur and Firentis.

Think of them as having these titles:
    Baheshtur - Engineer
    Deshavi - Pathfinder (scout)
    Alayen - Emissary
    Klethi - Looter
    Ymira - Wound Treater (doctor)
    Jeremus – Surgeon
    Bunduk - First Aid Medic
    Firentis - Spotter

Alayen, Baheshtur and Firentis have no training in their assigned jobs so they could be moved around. The other 5 are all qualified in 1 or more ways for their assigned jobs. This is definitely the group I will go with next time I play.

Attributes and Combat Skills for Everyone Except the Looter (Klethi)
Attributes and levels to train to:

    Strength: 12
    Agility: 12
    Intelligence: 30

Combat Skills and levels to train to:

    Ironflesh: 4
    Power Strike: 4
    Weapon Master: 4
    Riding: 4

I decided not to train Athletics. Athletics determines running speed. That’s all it does. When do your companions need to be able to run fast? It didn’t sound important to me. I’m near the end of the mid-game and I’ve never wished they could run faster. By not training Athletics you save 4 skill points that you can spend elsewhere.

Attributes and Combat Skills for the Looter
Attributes and levels to train to:

    Strength: 12
    Agility: 30
    Intelligence: 12

Combat Skills and levels to train to:

    Ironflesh: 4
    Power Strike: 4
    Weapon Master: 4
    Riding: 4

Non-combat Skills for the Skill Monkeys
Each companion trains the Trainer skill and 2 other Intelligence skills to 10. Some companions train a 4th skill but sometimes to a level below 10. Each companion’s title comes from skill 1. Skills 1, 2 and 3 can be trained simultaneously. When you have finished training those skills, put whatever skill points are left into skill 4 if there is a skill 4. The columns line up well in the editing window but wouldn't line up when I posted it but I think you can read it.

    Name                           Skill 1                     Skill 2               Skill 3               Skill 4
Jeremus – Engineer            Engineer             Trainer       Tactics
Deshavi – Pathfinder   Pathfinding             Trainer       Spotting            Tracking
Ymira – Wound Treater   Wound Treatment    Trainer       First Aid       Surgery
Klethi – Looter           Looting (Agility)        Trainer

    Non-combat Skills for the Fighters
The fighters function as backups to the skill monkeys for Int Skills. Some skills don't need a backup while others have 1 or 2 backups. Each companion’s title comes from skill 2.

    Name                             Skill 1           Skill 2             Skill 3                         Skill 4
Alayen - Emissary             Trainer   Persuasion     Tactics                         Pathfinding
Bunduk – First Aid Medic      Trainer   First Aid             Surgery                 Wound Treatment
Baheshtur – Surgeon     Trainer   Surgery             Wound Treatment        First Aid
Firentis – Spotter             Trainer   Spotting             Pathfinding                 Surgery

    Training Strategy
The post I got this strategy from, recommended training only combat skills until they were level 4 and then training Int skills. If you do that, you get little benefit from some important skills like Pathfinding, Spotting and Wound Treatment for a long time. So, I decided to alternate the training between combat skills and Int skills until I had all the skills trained to the levels I wanted. This way you gradually get more and more benefit from each group of skills which I think is a better training strategy. The idea is for combat skills to be 4 and Int skills to be 10 before entering the mid-game. Once Int skills are 10, Strength for each companion is raised to 15 so they can upgrade their melee weapon.

    Companions’ Gear Before Entering Mid-game
    Armor:
    - Plate body and boots
    - Gauntlets
    - Great Helmet

    Horse:  Heavy Charger
Melee weapon:  Sledgehammer. Later, when Strength is raised to 15, this weapon will be replaced with the Heavy Great Hammer.
Ranged weapon: Siege Crossbow with 2 big bags of steel bolts
Shield - They do not get shields because when they have shields they spend too much time hiding behind them when they should be fighting.

    Proficiencies Before Entering Mid-game
By the time Int skills were trained to 10, all my companions had proficiencies of 275+ for both 2-handed and crossbow.
I'm definitely going to try it out on my next gameplay.

Becoming a vassal as a female character

    AfLIcTeD 说:
Lords leaving the realm is for balance reasons. Otherwise lords will just be ping ponging between factions and once factions start getting defeated, the remaining factions will have like 80+ lords. Since majority of these will be fiefless, they will just run around the map raiding villages all the time.
Also when a king indicts a lord, he will lose relations with his other vassals. So eventually his most loyal vassals will then start getting indicted, then the faction will be screwed.
This doesn't affect the player kingdom as they can just reject lords.
Didn't think about this in that way and it does make a lot of sense anyway..

Thanks again for more helpful replies!

I am enjoying this game even more than I had anticipated and am pleasantly surprised how friendly folks are on this forum.

@LeChat: thanks for reminding me not to leave too many troops, I have yet to be offered anything by king (other than vassalage) and honestly not too optimistic about his “generosity”.

It takes time in-game to see who’s who and I am discovering that King Yaroglek is kind of a douche lol. When I capture an enemy lord, I release them if they yield immediately. If they curse me or whine, I take them and wait for big money to let them go. However, most of the Vaegir lords throw it in my face and imply that I’m weak (and dumb) for releasing any enemies.

Yea I don't like King Yaroglek also, King Harlaus and King Graveth's my favorite..
It's quite hard to receive a fief, even when you're a male, but if you take it you have a great chance of receiving it ( some lords automatically choose to support you only cuz u have taken it ).. but if you don't have a good reputation with the king it makes things difficult anyway.

You can just wait in the castle instead of leaving your soldiers there, it's like the same thing cuz you stay there with them, and if the enemy siege the castle they will start a battle, that you can obviously join

And I also do the same you do, I never take prisoners ( this way I made quite a reputation with various lords around Calradia ) but somehow I never encountered someone that didn't like my decision, they just say it was a dangerous choice...

    And you're welcome

But be aware that it will take some time to build the ladder ( if it requires a siege tower be prepared to lose some men ) and the Rhodoks Counts will sure try to stop you.. if you see them coming you can just abandon your siege and run..

THIS is a great point! Thanks for the info. My Artimenner only has 4 engineering, what skill level is considered “fast” for a siege prep? I will keep an eye on what’s coming if I solo siege, thanks again for the help

The more the better !! Keep focusing on upgrading his engineering skill, but to keep it simple, with his current skill it takes 6 hours when constructing ladders and 66 hours when constructing a siege tower ( yes siege tower takes a long time ).

I really don't recommend you to siege a castle or town that requires a siege tower, not only cuz it takes a loooong time to build it, but when you start the battle you have a lot of disadvantage, so either you have 3x or even more than the castle/town garrison or you be prepared for a blood bath in your side..

    Joining a siege

    Thanks for the replies!

    Another question:

I have a decent group, I'm currently vassal of Vaegir's, and we are currently at war with rhodoks. I've been doing well against their lords with similar size parties but can I initiate a siege on my own?

I was cruising by a castle and they have very few troops there, I think we could take it but... If I take it then lose it, will i lose a bunch of renoun? Also, when I get to the enemy castle, will there be a dialog to initiate siege on my own?

I guess I should just try it instead of asking here but appreciate any advice offered.

As for losing renown, you do not lose renown if you lose that castle, if you see a significant Rhodok force coming to take the castle back, just run and let them take the castle back.. they usually leave a small amount of garrison there ( they have to leave their own soldiers there, so the bigger they are the more they will leave there ) so you can try to take the castle again when they go away ( and if you still have a good force of men ), and in any case it's better to lose a castle than your liberty eh

My Brave Champion, I have heard about things like this but have never encountered it myself.  I have seen soldiers stopped on the ladder but only because the soldiers ahead of them could not advance.
I'm starting to think that this is happening because I'm not using my troops the right way, in need of some tips in tactics here boys..

    Gwrfelling 说:
Yes, Reindi Castle is notorious for the sticky ladder.

As for other tactics, send your heavy infantry and/or cavalry forward to gain access to the walls and order your archers/horse archers to a point near enough to the wall to make their fire effective--and have them spread out (to what degree depends upon the specific setting). Once you have access to the wall, send the archers, too, so that they can fire at the enemies in the courtyard while your other troops press the advance.

Be sure to utilize the different custom groups for your troops. I like to keep my heavy cavalry and light cavalry in separate groups and my light infantry and heavy infantry in separate groups--at least for siege purposes.

I will try keeping my archers back and command my heavy infantry to advance, will tell you if it works better... By the way, which soldiers do you think are the best ? Like I only use Nord Huscarl as infantry and Sarranid Master Archers as my Archers, do you have any advice on here ?

Something like " Which troops are better from which kingdom "

Thank you guys for your answer.

I think it happened when I get Reindi Castle. And when I was defender the enemy were also stucked (and when I kill some of them, some others were able to go up).
In my case they get stuck at the top of the ladder... And just don't advance, in other sieges they also get stuck there but after some time they do advance.. and my troops aren't that bad also, I have Nord Huscarl as my infantry, Sarranid Master Archers as my Archers and Sarranid Mamlukes as my Cavalry... I don't know why, but every time I try to siege a castle or town I always end up losing too much men, my men always get stuck at the ladder and stay there, dying one by one, if I choose the option " Order your soldiers to join the next assault without you " I always end up losing 100 of men and...

I do not know all the specifics, but I thought that lords might leave the realm if they have no place to go. For example, they have joined and left all the factions, including the player's faction, or they have run out of kingdoms to serve and the player has refused their service. I am unsure. Some lords even hang around with small bands and act bandit-like. I imagine that this information can be found someplace, but I haven't made time to look for it. (Also, companions/heroes will sometimes leave the realm, too, if they have served you a couple times and still left your service.)
That makes sense, I remember seeing a lot of messages about a Lord being indicted for betrayal or something like that, and after some time the same message about the same Lord, but some of them left without going to the Rhodoks ( my current kingdom ), now the game's feeling kinda empty

There already is a lot of achivements for female characters :
    - Sassy! As a female character get into a duel with male lord by insulting him.
    - Talk of the town As a female character, raise your renown to 50
    - Lady of the Lake As a female character, give a companion character a great sword
    - Queen As a female character, make your own faction
    - Man Handler As a female character, Capture and sell three NPC lords.
    - Girl Power As a female character, help a female claimant reclaim her throne
    - Empress As a female character, become queen of all Calradia

And just one Male related (the only game I had to play as a male) :
    - Heart Breaker Get a character to elope

Yea, I have the same achievements in my console..

Do you have info about female commanders been added in to the game? From what I have seen so far, Bannerlord will have same or similar restrictions that Warband had on females. All AI lords I saw so far were male.
If the previous title is anything to go by, even faction leaders will roam the map with their retinue and engage in combat. One of the imperial sub-factions is led by a woman, ergo there is almost certainly at least one female commander in the game. There is also the guaranteed option for player characters to be female commanders, which makes two. What's another handful on top of that? Arguments that it breaks immersion are precipitated on the notion that the presence of women in commanding roles is not only unexpected but is so objectionable that it detracts from one's enjoyment of the game. In a game full of anachronisms, why is this particular nail the one in desperate need of a hammering?
    This says everything.

I've been seeing some people saying that you can't become a vassal of a kingdom ( not like male characters can at least ), but yes you can..

I don't know if it's a bug that occurred with me but when I talked with King Graveth about becoming his vassal he said the usual, that he wouldn't accept my vassalage cuz I'm a woman and yadayada, then I for curiosity decided to press the option that says that even if he wouldn't give me any fiefs I would still want to become his vassal, which made him accept, and after some short time he offered to me a village ( Mechin ) which I obviously accepted, since then he started to give me more and more fiefs ( I've received Shariz, Almerra Castle, Knudarr Castle, Emirin and Mechin until now ) and he even offered me the position as Marshal of our kingdom, which I refused ( cuz being a Marshal's not cool ).

Btw I don't remember which where my stats when all that happened, but I remember I had quite a high renown, honor and charisma ( don't know exactly if charisma and honor have any effect on it anyway ) and also had a high relationship with King Graveth and his vassals.

Try it out and give a reply to me if happens the same thing with u
I only play female (except one time for a steam achievment). I usualy play the mod "Age of Calradia Enhanced" because it adds lots of cool stuff without changing to much the core game.
Recently, I restart a game in Native (because I'm bored and waiting for Bannerlord  and I have all the steam achievments).
I finished the game with all the differents ways and each time, as a Female.
So, I can tell you it is not a bug, you can swear to a king, get a fief. But you just need to have much higher renown to be a vassal.
And it's also normal to get fiefs when you captured one and ask for it (but not each time because the King do not give it to you if you have to much and other lords do not).
When I play, I usual play Swadian. They are in center of the map and almost permanently at war.
In my new game, I get Dhirim (after it was conquer by another faction). It is one of the most money making city (crossroad of trading routes). There is also Narra which get also plenty of money if I remember correctly.
Yea I usually play only as a female too, but as far as I know there is no mods for console, so the native have to do it and I've never seen someone talking about this option, they always says ( at least in some posts I've seen ) that it's not possible.. it's nice to know it isn't a bug, thank you for your answer .

I also always start in the Swadian territory, but always end up joining the Rhodoks xD
