ive seen that most answers agree that 1:5 ratio is suicide... thats not true... it depends a lot on the skill of the sergeant.. if youre talking about totally untrained farmers or recruits... i would say that the sergeant would win... lets see at modern fighting.. me and my friends usually fight with wooden weapons of all kind including axes swords polearms even a bow... theyre totally untrained (they stick to instinctive hack and slash method) and i know some tecniques of movement and all that stuff, and i can beat them all at the same time, simply by moving a lot and being more aggressive than them, while they just use the "attack with weapon defend with shield" i attack with everything including kicks and "hit defend and move and hit" style, and i get them chasing me around or simply trying to get past my shield or weapon blocks.. i mean it TOTALLY depends on the kind of weapons ability and training of someone. A veteran with experience in battles would totally "own" untrained and reluctant farmers.

thats just it.. you must consider morale too... when you are outnumbered cant run and in a life risk situation lie this either you surrender, get in panic or enter into a "defensive berserk".. well im just telling what happens to me anyway

ive made a "long" (its just because its long) bow in 2 hours.. it shoots quite far with "improvised arrows"(plastic tubes with sharpened points) ... it shoots some 50 meters in an open field.... its good for practice i think... I used a small eucalyptus and a string... i would describe how i made it but my english doesnt allow so..

my favorites are vaegir and khergit

vaegir because they are the most versatile in my opinion.. and swadian knights suck when on the ground (60% of the cavalry in my games always gets unhorsed in a battle) and they have those archers (one of my favorite weapons) and the infantry isnt that bad...

khergits because: bows + horses + lances/maces = unstoppable horde of cavalry

my most "oh F#CK" was when i was charging a group of some 10 looters and it was a mountain terrain with those "cliffs"... i was charging them and then i noticed they were all packed in a tight group so i got myself trapped in the middle of them and right when i managed to break free i started running and a stone must have killed/crippled my horse which threw me all the way down the cliff.. i wonder if my char got any headache after landing with his head.

for me the game was incredibly easy to learn.. of course that it was in zendar's times...the new game version is much more difficult, sometimes you are launched in the map right with some 11 powerful deserters at your sight, a new player by instinct will just click somewhere in the map probably even in the deserters! so its a real danger for beginners, but at the same time realistic. in middle ages if you moved to a new land you probably wouldnt find people standing in a building all day to teach you how to fight or whatever, but instead people who would very well get profit from your lack of knowledge.

100 nukes would not even make the world unlivable for humans, though it should be noted that the UK has more than a hundred nuclear -warheads- as opposed to just missiles (they are Tridents and can each carry a bunch), I believe it is 250ish. Basically enough to say.. Blow up every city in Russia. The human race would carry on just fine if with slightly more cancer if the UK, France or China launched off their entire arsenals though.

true, here people (who most dont know the difference between a nuclear and atomic or hidrogen bomb) use to think that "omfg, atomic bombs would be enough to destroy portugal, and they also think that some 50 nukes would be enought to reduce the earth to a wasteland with no life.

I think its normal, for me personally it would be difficult to kill someone when seeing his face and emotions, even in a battle, probably generals noticed that, and thats why we came to the point where you can kill millions of people pressing a button without even seeing the face of one of your victims

well going on foot without shields is obviously suicide.. but you dont need shields on horseback.. not if you are a good rider or posess a fast mount you can take them all naked with a simple weapon if you play well

they arent overpowered for me.. i can solo them... but i always take lots of damage of course.. and you dont need a shield not a big army.. sometimes i even prefer to solo them than going with an army.. its less expensive : D
