  1. Game is turn based (basically), consider changing "Worl

As a note, there are no hexes there. The terrain is a polygon (triangle) mesh.

And yes, due to the nature of computers, all games are eventually turn-based. It's just that there's no use displaying turns lasting only milliseconds.
  2. .710 Crash upon Exit

I do get the crash every exit, that is every time I click on Exit to Windows in the main menu (start new game, restore, options, exit menu).

My screen goes black (still displaying the D3D cursor, so it's still using Direct3D?) and then I get the "Report errors to Microsoft" message. (So, no - the system does not reboot.)

Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2 (5.1.2600)
    Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller
    Driver version 6.14.10.4363
  3. Ctrl+R rears the horse

    Tab key functionality:
    - Pressing once toggles between 1st person/3rd person
    - Holding tab allows you to view your character.
  4. Visa Electron

    Visa Electron will work, if:
    - Your bank allows paying with it
    - You have activated online payments (Verified by Visa)

So, yes, you should be able to buy the game.
  5. How was zendar produced?

Hm, I once heard that the buildings were modular, so that certain modules can be put on top of each other, etc. I think this can be edited with the mod tools.

Laptop which comes with a 3,5" diskette drive is something strange nowadays. The only diskettes used are likely those manufactured by Iomega for backup. Well, I do have a stash of 3,5 inchers, and likely somewhere a few real DD floppies.

I would argue that either a USB memory stick or a memory card is much more handy than a diskette at the current document sizes. (A few pics, etc.) Though, if all you need to move is text, diskettes are nice.

Besides, just think how many diskettes you have lost... it is a lot easier to lose that Compact Flash card.

Though, agreed... we once did find some backup diskette reading IBM *blahblahblah*, disk 14/54. Geez. Good times.
  6. editing a hero

Search for 'Undead'... there are a few threads explaining that they are a remnant from the time when M&B (or was it Warrider?) had fantasy elements.
  7. how do you snapshot

Ok, taking away coolings and plugging 220 VAC unto your mainboard are just pulling your leg for posting without capital letters, commas or perioids.

As previously mentioned by DaLagga, on Windows machines you can always take a screenshot by pressing Print Screen (PrtSc) key, usually located to the upper right of your keyboard.

Then, you'd like to (pause game and) open image editing program (MS Paint for masochists, IrfanView is pretty good). Edit->Paste. And save the image.

    ---

Posting the image on the web does require you to upload it into a server, like ImageShack or PhotoBucket. Or your own homepages. Then, you write down the URL, or web address of the picture on the server, and put it on your post between the img tags.

    this_is_an_image.jpg

And oh, if you want to post the image, you MUST save it in JPEG (.jpg) or GIF (.gif) format!
  8. crouching why can't we do t

Actually, I can think of a use for crouching...

Being charged by cavalry with spears. Lightly armoured troops could duck & cover, I think, as the spearmen (IRL, though) could not attack close to ground for the fear of sticking the spear-tip into ground.

But for ranged units, crouching does no good. Perhaps with a windlass, you could re-load a crossbow, but shooting could be a bit difficult. Shooting a bow would be pretty impossible. (At least aiming.)
  9. editing a hero

Probably easiest to do if you download Effidian's editor.

The caste guards are located after the counts in the units file. They are currently placed in the town squares, which are not ingame, so you do additionnally need to relocate them.

Tips for conversation editing can be found in various threads, like

Conversation mod done to the gladiators by Lost-Lamb: (Can be used as a template, just applied to the appropriate 'Yes?' line in conversations.txt, not the gladiator's conversation.)

  10. (0.632) Small enemy parties

Party size is dictated, partly, in party_templates.txt.

After some initial numbers, the entries go in the groups of four: unit number, minimum amount, maximum amount, and if the unit is a prisoner. There, it is possible to increase party sizes, if you want to do that.
  11. to modder expert, need help with troops problems.

I was using the editor besides of copy-pasting the unit from an existing one and increasing the amount of entries in the file... but better get some sleep before having a better look on this.
  12. to modder expert, need help with troops problems.

    Yes.

I do think it does give an error message if the number is incorrect, so that's easy to notice. The unit name showed in the upgrade option, but clicking caused a crash. Don't remember whether it was a BSOD or an assertion failure, because it happened some time ago.

I'll see if I can reproduce it now... though not today.
  13. Fighting fork quest

    Np.
These are not the droids you're looking for.
  14. to modder expert, need help with troops problems.

Back to debug the file, then... Hm, I had added another path for the Watchman, put on their second upgrade slot and placed after the official units in the file. Upgrading to that path would crash the game. It worked after I swapped them and Antlers.
  15. editing a hero

If it is the game, and you are certain you have loaded a new game...

...are you sure you are not trying to make bearded women?

I think the women must have the beard value reset to zero.

    How-to:

Convert the face value to octal system (Windows Calculator will do).

This should be on the form of four numbers (leading zero might not show).

These numbers, reading from the left, mean hair color, hair type, beard type, skin type. (If I remember it correctly, didn't check prior to writing this post.) The second from the left has to be 0. So, write the number down, then re-type it to Calculator, convert back to decimal system, and copy-paste to the editor and save.

EDIT: At this version, the castle guards have nothing to do. Hence, you could overwrite them, and then change the appropriate line on the conversation.txt to make them join you.
  16. Recruitment for "Hundred-Years War" mod

    Disclaimer: Untested.

    Option 1) Total conversion

Change the mesh for the 'steppe' equipment and rename them in the items file. Then, rename the party in party_templates file, and edit the units to something more appropriate. You can also edit the units in the party easily. The party template file entires go followingly (from memory):
party_name (some number) (faction number) (some number) (unit number) (unit minimum amount) (unit max amount) (boolean: Is unit a prisoner?) (some numbers on the end)

    Option 2) Disable

Disable the 'sold in stores' option. Then, edit the party_templates, find steppe_bandits and make all the units to have both minimum and maximum amount of 0. I think this should make them not to spawn, haven't tested though.
  17. to modder expert, need help with troops problems.

For me, the second update has not worked on high numbers. I believe someone mentioned 215 as a cap, so I went round this by moving the NPCs to the end (just remember to edit conversations.txt accordingly), so I had enough space in troops.txt to add additional units.
  18. What the!! FLYING HORSES

Nahkuri: Conscript = varusmies, värvätty. Roughly.
  19. Long term goals

The capitals are Reyvadin and Sargoth, but anyway.

    Nice ideas.
  20. Levels of characters

Grandmaster-Knight is the highest rank, I believe.
