It's ****ing QUAKE! Christ... what do you little kids want?!
Less biased?
Okay, here's the facts, then:
-The graphics are awesome, as they use the Doom 3 engine, improved. We can assume that they are awesome, yes? It's a powerful engine. Put it that way. You know how HL2 has crappy environment graphics, but the character models are superb, and how Halo 2 has great environments, but character model textures are loaded "on the fly"? The D3 engine just says, "Settle down, children," because ALL of its graphics beat the crap out of those games' engines. Oh I almost forgot, YOU DON'T NEED TO SWITCH FROM FLASHLIGHT TO GUN AND BACK AGAIN IN THIS GAME. Just incase you were one of those whiney losers who thinks that darkness is a crime.
-The music is good, but that is debatable, I will admit. Still , the sound is high quality. All of the sounds are crisp and fresh, like new.
-All of the weapons dreamt up by Quake are in here (the Thunderbolt from Q1 can be substituted for the lightning gun, and the BFG for the Dark Matter Gun, of course), EXCEPT... the super shotgun... sigh. But that isn't TOO much of a problem, as the regular shotgun is pretty good as is, and it just packs loads of damage if you get the Doubler powerup in Arena CTF.
-Mindless, gibbing style that Quake created. If you were to stop playing Q4 for a second, and think about how the game works, it's amazing how you realize how simple and mindless it is. But who gives a damn? It's fun. Don't let that discourage you.
-The singleplayer freaks you out just as much as Doom 3, but with a different approach. Instead of startlement and darkness and lack of duct tape, it uses disgust and vileness, which can prove to be more effective at some points in the game.
-The nailgun is BACK AND KICKING.
I gaurentee you man, if you want something less complex, something where you can win or lose and just laugh and laugh, Quake does it. You can look at a demo or something. Maybe try a demo of an older Quake if there isn't one out for Q4, to see how the style is.
