  1. Multiplayer player population

Gameplay is different though; WFaS is more a fusion between Napoleonic and Warband. I play sieges on both, close combat in WFaS is more satisfying. Plus there are more maps for WFaS and a whole lot less griefers.
  2. 84e Regiment Public Siege Server [84e_NW_Siege]

I often play in the evening EET (around 9 pm - 1 am) and I rarely see any admins online. I like the server very much - thank you for providing it for us. However, the amount of griefing often completely ruins the attacks. Cannon and sapper trolls just make it impossible to take the fort, in addition to TKillers. There is certainly a need for more admins and permbans for griefers.

Incidentally, I noticed the amount of griefers on WFaS siege server dropped after Napoleon came out. I suppose all the griefers migrated to the new game... Those that were not banned anyway.
  3. MP Other WFaS Administrator mod

Looks interesting. I guess you plan to keep this in whole package, instead of offering a version without blessings, kills, teleports and spawns?
  4. TLD (The Last Days, LOTR mod) for M&B 1.011 Info

This post has no point. I simply wanted to thank you, dudes and dudettes, for this awesome mod. Made me install M&B again. I'm greater fan of TLD than I'm of Tolkien; of course I've read my Tolkien and seen the movies etc, but I'd play this mod even if it was about glittering vampires and angsty teen wolves. It is the interesting, dynamic mechanics that truly count. Can't wait for all the bugs to be ironed out.
  5. Top 5 game songs?

I guess I'm older than most posters since you are forgetting the classics. Most of these songs suffer a lot from old technology etc, try to listen beyond it. I think these games have awesome soundtracks altogether, I just chose the theme musics as stuff to link.

    Cannon Fodder!

Cannon Fodder recruitment music is pretty awesome too.

Monkey Island (already mentioned, but mentioning it again)

    Deus Ex (mentioned before)

Baldur's Gate I, Baldur II , Throne of Bhaal

    Warhammer Dark Omen

    Fantasy General

I'm likely forgetting something awesome... Ultima Underworld 2 had a great theme too, but didn't find a good version online. Most new games have crappy generic soundtrack. Jesper Kyd (Hitman, Assassins Creed) does awesome stuff though, a shame he isn't going to make the soundtrack for new Hitman...

  6. Prospector

You can mine by (F)iring at mountains, walls, rubble and ice. Mining and laser drills help a lot, a few weapons - like disintegrators - help a little. Alternatively, you can get a mining bot and leave it on a planet, come back later to get loot. Mining through mountains takes several shots.

Prospector is awesome. Some beginners tips:

    - Use your starter money to buy navigation computer and hire a better pilot and science officer.

    - First just map planets; scan them, land, grab any easy loot. If you see ANYTHING that moves, run run run away! The chances are it will eat you! Don't land on special planets. Most of them are utterly deadly. Better not to risk it till you have big crew and good equipment.

    - One exception; there is an advanced human colony somewhere always. They sell cybernetics you can't get from space stations, like third grade everything. Plus they sell loyalty chips... Put those in your experienced officers and they will neeeever leaveeee, neeeever let you goooo.

    - Invest money into buying improved landing gear, best available sensors and ship detection system. Find drifting space hulks to loot. You can deal with most inhabitants by blasting a hole into hull with your weapons; this will vent them to vacuum. The worst offenders just shrug and proceed to eat your face. Anyway, you can find very good ship for free this way. Worse ships than you have are still worth looting. If/when you have a tractor beam, you can tow them to space stations and sell them.

    - In personal equipment, invest into oxygen filters, extra oxygen tanks, binoculars and lamps. These will make exploration a lot safer.

    - Even when you feel comfortable risking special planets, stay away from alien ruins. They contain big angry mech-like robots that will blast you to pieces. There are some other certain death planets, but it is more fun to let you folks find them on your own, bwahahaha.

    - Regarding combat; camo armor allows your dudes to snipe at enemies without them detecting you. Just F)ire at them from far away. It is always good to have redshirts (security, snipers and paramedics), they take most of the hits instead of officers. Squad leaders improve the firepower etc of your grunts. Switch your team tactics to defensive; this will save lots of lives.
  7. Mount&Blade II: Bannerlord

I pretty much want three things from M&B2 in addition to better animations, more content etc.

    1) Increased realism, especially in multiplayer. Mainly, jumping and attacking should be impossible, it really breaks the immersion to see people jumping and attacking with pikes. *facepalm* Likewise armor should make turning slower, not just slow down movement. Seeing guys in heavy armor whirl around like dervishes with a two-handed sword is another facepalmy moment.

    2) Interactive enviroment. Meaning stuff like your sword swings actually being limited by walls when fighting inside a tower, it being possible to shoot/stab through a tent or other such obstacle and so forth. Destructability within reason.

    3) I wouldn't mind better damage model... Where instead of just hit points your capabilities would be degraded by damage. With appropriate gore, of course.
  8. Bow balance suggestion.

Mainly, the arrows are too effective against armor. I think that is the main thing.
  9. New update soon?

I really hope they give some love to MP. New siege maps would be nice.

Failing that, rebalancing is sorely needed. Last patch messed it up. Swedes are overpowered and Cossacks were nerfed too much... toning Cossacks up a little and Swedes down a little would be nice.
  10. A Few Questions

    1. You get a certain amount of money per each "life" in multiplayer, depending on server settings. You get bonus gold for killing people. When you die, the game purchases the equipment you've marked to be bought. The extra gold for killing people is spent, but you always get the respawn gold. So if you have too expensive equipment chosen and keep dying, eventually you can't afford it since you'll be back to the spawn amount.

    2. Pikes have a minimum effective range like the big axes do. It seems to me there are ways to glitch with them so you can hit closer than you should, though. Likewise, there are ways to use spears at strange angles and sometimes lances seem to reach a lot longer than their graphics indicate. It is annoying, but nothing we can really do about it. Needs a patch.

    Boelie 说:
Look at his 'playing' with for instance the spear. he uses it in a way that takes advantage from the game's weaknesses. You will see him hit people from angles that are unhittable if you do not use these exploits of the game.

I won't comment any other allegations, but the game has currently many many glitches. For example, in Oreshek siege map, it is possible to glitch yourself on the roofs. Loads of players use this option. It is unrealistic to assume people not to use things like that on any open server. Policing things like that would be pretty impossible... It is something that must be changed with a patch. Some people will always play competitively and do their utmost to win. Me, I try to play "fair" and part of that is enjoying killing glitchers more than anyone else. Hunting rooftop snipers on Oreshek is my favorite thing to do on that map.

Of course, some things, like hiding inside objects, are just plain cheating, but that is different from standing on a roof or somehow optimizing the way you use a melee weapon. You can always shoot them in the face anyway.
  12. Multiplayer Siege Tactics discussion

    Archonsod 说:
If the attackers are at the flag it's only a question of time before you lose regardless of how many players defend it; it raises a lot slower than it falls.

This might be true for small amount of players, but definitely isn't for 60-100 player sieges. I've played those a lot and it usually takes several tries for the attacker to take the flag. During that there is intensive fighting by the flag itself. If there isn't defending infantry there to push the attackers away, they will win, no matter how many musketeers there are sniping on the walls and stuff.
  13. Lance combat from horse, optimal position (multiplayer)

Does anyone else think lances do too much damage on foot, though? I've picked up the hussar lance a few times on foot and totally murdered people with it... That and being skewered by lancers whose horses I've killed with one hit. I think lances should totally suck on foot.
  14. Multiplayer Siege Tactics discussion

I mostly play as attacker because it is more challenging. I enjoy being a musketeer, because there is just something fun about taking out enemy snipers through tiny murder holes from the outside. Other favorite is sneaking inside through some back door and sniping ignorant defenders from behind. That and dropping lancers/horse archers that come riding in the spawn area for easy kills. Dropping a horseman at full gallop from far away is very satisfying. (I think I've got Autumn a few times like that and it has certainly made my day, hehe.) I actually enjoy the challenge of going without any melee weapon at all, makes it all more exciting and tactical.

When Swedes are attacking, then I play as a defender and enjoy potshooting them. Once Swedes are balanced (hope that day comes), then I'm sure I'll enjoy playing them, but till them, I'll just always be killing Swedes whenever possible.

All those things being said, I try to be tactical and provide advantage for my team, not just rack up kills. When I defend, I concentrate on killing gate breakers etc. When I attack, I try to drop the guys who are defending ladders from behind to let our guys take the walls etc. Killing without purpose is bad playing, in my opinion, even if it gets you at the top of kill list.

Does anyone else think the Cossacks get too little air time? I like playing Cossacks because they get Miquelets without being totally overpowered.
  15. How to stop a gate troll

Yes, I think you should be on foot and press action button for a moment to open or close a door. Akin to opening a gate or pushing/raising ladders, just faster.
  16. Multiplayer Siege Tactics discussion

The usual problem in sieges is...not enough infantry. The flag is taken or lost due to this little fact. Sure, it is good to have musketeers for support, but few musketeers dare to engage up close. As an attacker, I think any faction could roll the siege on the attack simply by having 50 - 75% infantry and engaging en masse on specific point. Then just going for the flag, ignoring shooters on the walls etc.

Likewise, when I'm (rarely) defending, I see the flag lost mostly because defenders don't have enough infantry by the flag itself. Musketeers on the walls shooting downwards at the yard do little good in the end. I should really learn how to fight in close combat one of these days, so I could start playing infantry without just dying...
  17. westre's servers admin applications

I have to say (with no offence to any applicants) that asking volunteers for positions of power is usually a bad idea. It tends to attract people who enjoy power for its own sake, even in petty little positions like forum moderators or server admins. Inviting reliable-seeming people directly is far better way to do it.

    That being said...

In-Game name: Majestic7HatesSwedes (In-game Swedes, not irl Swedes, till they are balanced. Love killing them though.)
    Timezone: EET (GMT +2)
    Country: Finland
Owner of M&B Games: M&B, WFaS
    Administrative position (battle/siege): Siege
How long have you been playing on these servers?: A few months
Past admin experience (not needed): Yep

    Extra notes:
I've seen online communities die in the spiral of hate and poison before. Basically, trolls and toxic people start spewing **** and eventually drive away ordinary regulars, because they get tired of them. Once the toxic arses have a large presence, they then scare away all newcomers too. It leads into an echo chamber and the dying of the online community. I don't want to see that to happen to the awesome siege server. Basically, I want to get rid of all the racist/religious bigots and griefers before the whole atmosphere is poisoned.

Further, I hope to see a situation where we could play with FF on. It makes sieges far more interesting, when you can't just swing and fire blindly. Of course, FF attracts griefers and banning them asap is the only way to deal with those pathetic attention-deficient children.
  18. @Devs: server handling needs improvement

I haven't encountered anything as bad as ExplodingCabbage. I mainly play big sieges (Westre and some random other servers). Regardless, I've been surprised by the amount of dicks. I didn't expect game like this, with the historical theme and all, to attract that kind of scum. Numbers are pretty low anyway; there are a handful of griefers and maybe half a dozen cheaters who use glitches to their advantage. Stuff like hiding inside walls etc. Glitch cheaters are just pathetic, but the griefers should really get permbans. I prefer playing with FF since it changes the dynamics of the fight. Unfortunately FF is off on big servers, mostly due to griefers I presume.
  19. @Devs: server handling needs improvement

Kicking is practically useless anyway. Nothing prevents the griefer from just reconnecting to the game immediately; even if the griefer is kicked constantly, it only provides little inconvenience. Since they are attention deficient kids who seek attention, it kind of provides him what he wants. Banning is the only thing to do really. (Of course, letting players vote ban would lead to abuse, just commenting on necessity of kicking.)
  20. Regarding EU Siege

Yes, I enjoy the siege server a lot. I just wish you could ban the griefers, who keep doing stuff like blocking ladders even with FF off. If there is really DOS going on, I bet it is one of those children.
