I say figure out what exactly has caused this wave of piracy, and try to stop it at its root. Ive heard its something to do with the Somali coastal waters not being respected, and fishermen not being able to make a living because of it. Well, there is a problem that, hello, diplomacy, could help solve. Africa has been so screwed up from invasion after invasion, colonization after colonization, puppet dictator after puppet dictator, and no end is in sight. We of the invading countries (US included) really should be more responsible and help these countries when crap like this happens, instead of pointing more guns at them. Oh thats right, we are still in the process of bleeding them dry (who knows how China does it), less obvious now as its done by proxy or an even more covert means, but still it continues.
And again, I would like to see a figure on how many the pirates have killed vs how many of them have been killed. This isn't another war that can be won, this is a people being stepped on by international trade, and responding. It can be solved non-violently. No different than if people in South Carolina got upset at big ships taking shortcuts through their fishing and future oil platform waters. Just keep ships away from the region, or stop them from taking shortcuts and seek a diplomatic solution.
It will probably end up being used as an excuse for yet another invasion though *sigh* bloody imperialists (starts writing more protest signs).I guess the US is keen to try out their new AFRICOM toys. Such brutality must end.
