    Crossbows :[

    I still remember playing an un-registered verision back in the days of .73x, and using a pair of crossbows and a bardiche (sp?) to take down a castle before level 4...

    The trouble was that the exp gained from taking down the castle would always leave me above level 6, and cause the game to shut down. It took me ages to actually find out what I could actually do with the castle :grin:

    I find that using a pair of crossbows can actually be quite effective on horse-back, as long as you're willing to periodically leave the combat and reload, especially in mods like TLD, where you fight harder opponents. Whenever I play Craftmod, I tend to do the same thing with a pair of muskets.

    Pirates of Calradia main thread now locked.

    Cool mod, but the combat system is seriously messed up... Nerfing bows is one thing, but when my character with powerdraw 10, 500 skill in archery, a standard war bow and a bag of Khergit arrows can deal a 0 damage headshot, something's gone rather wrong... And then with one swing of a sword of war, I can deal around 350 damage to an armoured opponent.

    Balance please...  :shock:

    I really think there should be a low level cap on dummy weapon proficiency. It just doesn't provide that much battlefield experience.

    It could be added alongside the trainer, but not instead of him.

    EDIT: Although, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing an expansion at a later date, as has already been suggested many times.  Even if it were a third-party coded expansion.

    Agreed. I'd rather have it done right than have it done soon. Although I wouldn't mind having it done soon and then having it done right...

    I always liked Hexen/Heratic, and although this might not be the best engine for a remake, I daresay you could do something good with it.

    You can't really blame him. Borcha isn't anywhere near as easy to stumble across as he was in .73 and .75. Back then, he was right next to the count. Now, if I didn't already know where to find him, I'd probably never have seen him.

    There should really be some sort of "You hear a cry for help coming from the dungeons" message when you enter Rivacheg's castle.

    I personally think ranged weapons are for limp wrists and children, my characters like to see the spark of life die from their enemie's eyes up close and personal, I've got like 400 points in one and two handed weapons, and about 5 in thrown weapons and archery, yet I always end up mounted on a horse with a bow.

    I think THAT should net me a much bigger portion of the pot. I've got next to no experience with the damn things, yet I still have to hold my own in the ring.....

    If you are literally a grand master at two handed weapons you should be able to compete with them for a fraction of the money you'd get using an unfamiliar weapon.

    That's a good point, actually. If there was ever a ranking or reputation system with the arenas, they should be seperated by weapon type, so a player rated as a "Master Of The Sword" could still be rated as a novice with the bow

    How about slightly more exotic bets?

    "I'll bet you 40 denars I can walk away without a scratch!"
    "I can drop every enemy player, single handedly!"
    "I can take them all with my bare hands!"
    "I'll knock out more people than the rest of my team combined!"

    The odds and payoff would vary according to the outragousness of the bet, and possibly according to your history with that arena.


    I'd love to see a complete revamp of the arena system, with reputation, ranking, more heroes, more options, etc.

    Size 1: Concealeable (4 slots - stuffed into boots and/or a bandolier (pistols, bullets, throwing knives, rocks, slings, daggers)

    Using all the slots would be very bad in terms of encumberance. Walking around with 3 pistols, a sword, a crossbow, a shield, bullets and a quiver would be every bit as silly as it sounds.

    Don't forget about the horse slots. If you're a dedicated horse-archer, you might want to leave most of your arrows wth the horse, so if you get dismounted, you still have a few weapons at hand.

    This discussion is just getting nasty.

    Actually that would be quite fun... A game where you manage a criminal empire and have to kidnap, threaten and assassinate to get ahead in the world. Better still, if it was online, you could hire other players to do your dirty work... Think GTA done better.

    Same here, actually.

    Anyway, I finished the game already (With a complete collection of guns), and like I said, since I uninstalled it, I'm finished with the nightmares as well now.

    I think what disturbed me the most about the game is how easy it was for me to suddenly turn evil and start commiting mass murder.
