  2. SP Musket Era Csatádi's Visual and Historical Mod

Thank you, Csatádi, for your great work. Your mod is the one that keeps me returning to "With Fire and Sword".

There is one issue however that really annoys me ever since I first got the game, and I wonder whether you know any remedy. That issue is one-handed melee thrusting weapons. They do piercing damage and they are quite fast but they really perform badly in my opinion.

One reason is the +damage speed modifier. With swings, that modifier is easy to get. With thrusting swords, I can hardly ever get a good speed modifier, often, it even is a negative modifier (i.e. -17% to damage). Maybe it's me, but I definitely feel that running at a target and then stabbing should give you good momentum and a good modifier, which rarely it seems to do.

The second and most important reason is the minimum range required to thrust. Unlike swings, which can be launched from (almost) any distance, thrusts require a considerable distance from the enemy. I have so often seen musketeers or Lifeguards desperately trying to poke at their opponent, but never getting off a single thrust, because their enemy was too close to them. In sieges, thrusting swords are almost useless. Which is a pity because I like them aesthetically, and because lots of troops bring them.

I wish thrusting sword mechanics could be improved. Historically, thrusting swords rapidly began replacing slashing weapons from ~the middle of the 16th century onwards, in western European armies at least. I assume one of the reasons was that they performed well. They do not in WFaS. Do you know of any way to eliminate the minimum range for thrusting swords?

  3. Constant crashes after modding - any help possible?

Ok, in case anyone is interested, I seem to have found the reason. I created quite a number of new troops that villagers could be upgraded to, and also alternative upgrade paths for other existing units. That of course means that the game has to calculate quite a lot of level-ups after each AI battle, and this apparently crushed the game and my saves, which became inaccessible (crash on loading). I removed most of my newly created troops and now, the game works just fine.

A shame though! I had such wonderful upgrade paths, they're all gone. Hopefully, With Fire and Sword 2 will run more stable.

    Greetings

Yes, that's what I wrote... and if you left a comment on this, I would be grateful!
  5. Constant crashes after modding - any help possible?

Hi everyone, I'm running the Steam version with Csatádi's fantastic mod and have heavily edited existing items and troops (and also added some more) with Morgh's editor, to adapt the game to my personal taste. After literally hundreds of hours of playtesting, my personal sub-mod is now...
  6. No one wants me!

    Lightman 说:
You are to unknown if the game is new thats why I asked for your ingame days you have to play a bit befor joining a faction.

    Hi Lightman,
I'm quite aware of the renown thing. It's not that; renown is 150+, no quest started, and I cannot join anyone. As I said, something seems to be wrong there.

    Greetings
    K.

Edit: My mistake. Apparently, when you've once refused to join a faction, you can't anymore. Moreover, when you've started the Black Mace, it doesn't work either. In my new game, the problem was that Sweden wasn't at war with anyone. Now, they are, and Carl Gustav offered me a contract. God Bless the Tartars (who started the war)...
  7. No one wants me!

Again, I started a new game. I don't know what's wrong. It's just impossible for me now to join any faction. That pretty much screws the fun...
  8. How do you develop your hero and your companions?

Hi all, what do you turn your digital selves and its friends in? I started with infantry only, developing my hero as a footborne two-handed-sword-wielder (backup weapon: musket), my companions as foot musketmen with 2x ammo and one-handed weapons. However, I have found riders to be way more...
  9. No one wants me!

    Hi Rallix,

yes, that's exactly what I did. I went to the Hetman, to the King of Sweden, to the Tsar and to the Khan. I just don't have the option to ask about becoming a vassal.

In my new game, it's basically the same: I am a mercenary of the Cossacks, with renown 220+, honour level 23 and 120 companions; relations with the Hetmanate are +39, with the Hetman +28; but still, when I talk to him, I just can't become a vassal. There's something not quite right there, I never had this problem before.

  10. No one wants me!

Ok, thank you for taking the time to answer. I guess I'll just start a new game then. These are the moments in which I'm so glad you can import/export your hero!

  11. No one wants me!

    Hi Lightman,

396 digital days have gone by, and my honour rating is 10. My party of 27 mighty companions and I have smashed countless Tartar raider bands, looters and deserters, we have escorted innumerable caravans and aided other lords in battles. In consequence, my renown is 608, and my relations with other nations range from +4 to +12 (Cossacks).

Is it because I inititally turned down the offers to become a noble that they don't want me?

    Greetings
    K.
  12. No one wants me!

Yes, nobody wants me. What sounds like a teenager's dilemma is of serious digital concern to me! I started a new game with the intention of doing the Black Mace Quest. Consequently, I turned down offers by all faction leaders to become a noble. When I had finally started the quest, I wanted to...
  13. SP Musket Era Csatádi's Visual and Historical Mod

    Hi Csatádi,

I just wanted to say I greatly enjoy your mod. The gameplay changes you made are well thought through and definitly improve WFAS. Among the new troops, I especially like the Hungarian mercenaries. The variety of equipment they come with is just amazing, they make such a colourful army. I keep searching all the taverns for them. Great work and thanks a lot!!! Hopefully, for all the RL issues, you still find the time to enjoy playing and modding the game.
  14. Join the Swedish?

You'll have to raise a company of soldiers and fight alongside the Swedish in some of their campaigns. You can then ask the king about becoming a vassal, IIRC. When you've fought battles, made them like you and won enough renown, they'll take you.

Despite there being bugs, I can recommend the Swedish. They have good, well-armored troops, with the Swedish Reiters being one of the most powerful units in the game. No archers though - if you want them, choose Crimeans - but if you like the style and equipment of central-European 17th century armies, go ahead.

Another good thing about becoming Swedish is that the best armour (Black Armour) you can equip yourself and your heroes with looks (central-)European, just like the Swedish soldiers. It wouldn't stilistically fit if you fought in European armour alongside Crimean Tatars!

  15. Myadzelsk Castle - Why no commander available/appointable? Bug?

Thank you for your answer. It doesn't work - must be a bug I guess - but in the meantime, I've aquired another castle (on the other side of the map though...) and there, I can have a commander and recruit troops. Not in Myadzelsk though.

  16. Myadzelsk Castle - Why no commander available/appointable? Bug?

Hi all, I've just recently bought With Fire & Sword on Steam and had a great time with it so far - absolutely fantastic game. However, I don't have the manual - the link in this forum doesn't work for me, so sorry if my question is sort of stupid. Anyway, I think my problem is probably a bug...
