SP Antiquity Dawn of Man - The Neolithic Mod, party like its 9999 BC!

    Awesome work.

I almost always play as non-humans in just about any game that allows it, but I'm of the opinion here that it would be better off if these groups were exceedingly rare in-game like you said.

In mods like Europe 1200 you can change your faction's culture by talking to your minister once you own your own faction. It would be cool if, despite not owning any territory themselves at the start, non-humans could be restored to greater numbers by the player's chiefdom taking their culture. Despite their extremely difficult early game, humanity's offshoots could potentially redeem themselves.

That would be a good challenge, if all troops were able to block effectively. Melee battles where the troops were even in number would drag out longer, meaning you'd need a numbers advantage or ranged/cav support to win quickly rather than just fielding a bunch of [strongest melee troop available] and steamrolling.

I'm very keen on getting this, but I think I'll wait until some reviews are out and I can pick it up in person. Love what I've heard so far.

I've wasted a lot of characters typing up things I want to see in M&B2, but the only one that truly matters is an obese King Harlaus. If he's still around, I hope to all the gods old and new that his gluttonous debauchery is canon.

What Grinds your gears: Napoleonic Wars

Mass infantry charges that quickly fall apart because half the team scatters to take potshots out in the open rather than closing to melee range.
People accusing you of hacking when you're on a roll. I can't aim for **** but I'm good with a sword, and yesterday was the third time I've been accused of cheating.
Getting killed early in a round on a crowded battle server. Time to alt tab and watch youtube videos.
People with fancy tags in front of their name getting off easier than people without them for TK'ing.

Steam: Whats your thoughts on Valves gaming service

I like Steam. The only time it's ever annoying is when my internet is freaking out, because it won't let me connect and won't let me play in offline mode either since there's no connection (wat). Having a bunch of games installed but being unable to play them because the third party program that runs them has had a heart attack and won't respond gets old.

I'll applaud Spartikles just for fighting Galatikoi Klerouchon. They're *****es. At least, you were referring to them, right? Galatikoi Kluddolon aren't armoured swordsmen.

I was playing XGM. EB rubs me the wrong way.

"Quisque Est Barbarus Alio" (i.e. RTW mod discussion)

My general, Spartikles the Crippled, is an immortal warrior sent by the gods. There's no other explanation. None that I'm interested in, anyway. The guy's stats are lousy, he's 0 for command, management, and influence. His lame from birth trait reduces his combat effectiveness and makes him useless for anything other than disposable heavy cavalry. He's also got some other bad traits, including flaccid. The guy can't catch a break.

All my men died outside the enemy walls thanks to being totally outclassed and charged in the back by sneaky ninja cav, so I sent Spartikles running after the fleeing king inside their capital with the intention of killing him and maybe getting a cheap victory by holding the square for a while. The king died, leaving me with Spartikles and 6 bodyguards remaining. The ragged remains of the enemy spearmen slowly trickled in and I got solid charges on all of them, killing them off before 50 heavily upgraded, veteran, well-armored Galatian Swordsmen finally came running in. Charged them for a last stand and my numbers dropped fast, but they still managed to kill ~20 before it was only Spartikles left. He was kicking ass, the little cutscene thing when your general dies showed up twice but he just kept hacking away so I ran him out of there and tried to escape. Couldn't leave, so I ran him back and spent a good 15 minutes charging him through the swordsmen, running to the other side of the square before they could retaliate, and charging him back. 30 kills unaided as the last man on the field and he won the battle, capturing and apparently subduing the entire city by himself. And he only got two bronze chevrons for it.

    Your Steam Greenlight Picks

    Project Zomboid
    Kenshi
The latter looks great. Ugly, but if it turns out to have all the features it says it will and they're halfway decent, it'll be exactly the game I was looking for.

The new version is excellent. It's so much prettier, for one, but the little tweaks you've done with food and spears are great.

Ooooh that sonofa*****. That exact same character attacked the army with which I was besieging Burdigala. He got away with 11 of his Brihentin bodyguard.

Because of his attack, I could slaughter the garrison in the field and take the city without damaging the walls or anything. This guy was standing outside the city with, suddenly, 25 bodyguardsmen. I sent a force out to attack him. He got away again. None of his bodyguard was left alive, he outran thrown spears, my own bodyguard, slinger stones and numidian (fast) cavalry.

He's now relatively safe in a city, the tosser.

    What's his name?

    ____________

Just achieved victory in my Macedonian campaign. The final battle was with Skudata, and it was about as anti-climactic as you can get. Besieged Sardike with a nearly full stack of 1000 upgraded veteran Macedonian troops, and the Scythians attacked me with half that number consisting totally of inexperienced steppe infantry/slingers and only two units of cavalry, counting the general. I started out on top of an incredibly steep hill located in the corner of the battle map with no possibility of being flanked. By the time they reached me, their cavalry was in pieces and their infantry was too tired to escape my charging swordsmen. I lost more men to friendly fire due to bad positioning of archers than I did to the enemy.

Dunno what to do now. Lydia? Ionia? Persians, Babylonians? I also have XGM and LOTR 3rd Age sitting around waiting to be played. So many choices.

"Quisque Est Barbarus Alio" (i.e. RTW mod discussion)

RoP: I'm about to wreck the Scythian blob in my Macedon campaign. My Autariatae allies have apparently spent the entire game deep in the red with two towns and a weakened army that's too small to take more. They've been faithful, if only because they're too weak to do anything else. I'll send my veteran Macedonian army with the king up north to cut the blob in half while my Thracian light infantry army besieges their capital in the east and my still-training Spartan army goes west to save the Illyrians. Or betray them, but I have a shortage of monarchist family members and I need one to build the right government buildings, so who knows.

LOTR: Think I'm going to give the Noldor a go. Or Dunlendings. They're so ****ty compared to Rohan it's unbelievable, but you can turn them into better units by retraining at another faction's forges, and it's hilarious seeing wild men of Dunland in elven or gondorian armor.

"Quisque Est Barbarus Alio" (i.e. RTW mod discussion)

My Rise of Persia Macedonia campaign is about to grind to a screeching halt thanks to Sparta. They own all of the south, I own all of the north, and with their ridiculously OP hoplites (unkillable from the front by anyone but other spartan hoplites, basically, and they don't give a **** if you charge them in the back) I have to wipe them out now before they get stronger. I suppose I'm lucky that the steppe hordes to my north are busy elsewhere, and my barbarian ally to the west is conspicuously absent (probably building up a giant steamrolling death legion in the fog of war that I'll never be able to stop) while Taras was destroyed by autonomoi early on. Still, not looking forward to dealing with them.

    Also started another Kemet campaign, this time rushing east and west instead of south in order to secure a foothold against Kyrene and Babylon, but the AI beat me again. My army was too elite to be retrained that far from the capital and all I did was hand upgraded settlements over to my biggest enemy. Kyrene was crippled, so I did that right, but focusing east instead of south meant Kush built up a steamroller army unopposed. They labeled this campaign hard for a reason ;_;
