    Been a while since I last posted in here. Given I'm now doing so much art at uni and at work, I haven't really been able to get back into the M&B modding scene. Ah, to think this is where I made my first models...

    So, here's my latest character model. I wanted to design a post-apocalyptic scavenger. Played by Nicolas Cage...

  2. F&S Bugs Thus far

    I can't say for sure that this is a bug, but it's certainly a pattern that I've noticed:

    In multiplayer sieges, Cossacks never get picked as an auto-selection by the game. They only get game time when polls are accepted (polls generally fail, and most people only demand Sweden vs. Poland).

    Yeah, I painted the ork face then applied overlays for the skin/wart texture.

    I don't know of any tutorials, but my personal method is to make a cube to represent the entire head and then keep cutting and pulling it. Smoothing the right places is as big a part of it as anything (I've not used Wings in years, but I believe it has similar options). Oh, and generally you'd only make half the face, then mirror it.

    Face-wraps are hard to get working well. I use Max 3DS with the pelt tool. You cut seams and then it automatically unwraps the map as if you peeled it off the skull.

    Your head attempt looks good to me. Just clean up the polys so nothing has more than four vertices, and you're well on your way.

    Thanks for the feedback. The 3D model is based on actual game pieces that come on the ork sprue, so the pistol design and chainsword are appropriate.

    The fabrics could have been more war-torn, I'd agree, but the metals are already fairly scrappy-looking.

  6. Multiplayer Class description/guide as of version 1.143

    I think a lot of us will come into this thread thinking, "have they addressed the issues with Sweden having God mode enabled in sieges?" But it looks like they still have the best armour, the best ranged and the best melee. Them running a bit slower and having mediocre mounted units doesn't really matter when they're all camped on the walls.

    Still, I'll see how it goes...
  7. Griefplayers

    A large part of this problem can easily be solved:

    Remove grenades from multiplayer.


    They're very rarely used correctly anyway, and it'll leave the griefers with a much less satisfying way of being a ****, opening and closing doors. Alternatively, make the grenades cost 3,000 plus. That way, griefers have to do a hell of a lot of work/waiting to earn that single chance of pissing everyone off, before they're ultimately kicked and faced with another slow, uphill climb.

    However, with how long simple stuff like the Nomad gate bug has been around, I'm pretty much convinced the developers took their money and ran.

    Keeping in mind I'm rubbish at this stuff, how might I allow the game to use more RAM? Is it just the priority thing?

    Well, I've tried verifying the files, and I've reinstalled the patch, but the game still randomly crashes to desktop/freezes. Usually after some bad stuttering. If I was a tech-head, I'd suggest there's some sort of memory leak issue...

    ...But I'm not. For what it's worth, when I ctrl-alt-del'ed out of the game when it froze, it was using 1.5GB.


    It's totally random as to when it gives in, too. Sometimes I can get loads of rounds played, and other times I can't get beyond the spawn point.

    I was initially saving this for the Warband release as the poly count is about 30% bigger. However, it works just fine on my (good, but dated) PC. Oh, but make sure you backup your brf. file file. You know, just in case.

    What douchebaggery was there? I'm glad as all hell there's a prequel trilogy mod to get rid of the annoying "need more clones!" demands we get.

    Only played a couple of minutes on the release, and it seems like a largely positive advancement. Not keen on the change to the Death Star, though - I loved seeing that thing lead an invasion.

    Also, maybe we should replace Zuckuss with 4-Lom, since one at least has some of the necessary model available.


    And it's weird; a quick blast on this did give me the urge to get back into modelling, but...

    It was about 12k triangles if I remember correctly, so I don't know if that's too big for a scenery prop...

  16. MP Sci-Fi Fantasy [WB] Warhammer 40K

    Sounds interesting. I was introduced to 40k a year ago, and now have large armies for Eldar and Orks, with a small army of Daemons (who absolutely suck, thank you Mr. Deep Striking Mishap).

    Aaanyway, if you're looking for modellers, I'd be cool to make some Ork stuff down the line. I just need to finish a few pieces on the SWC mod first.

    Releasing progress footage is just the smart and logical thing to do, even if it's in some stupid "teaser" form. It lets us know the mod hasn't died on it's arse like 95% of all mods that are planned (such as the previous attempt at a Clone Wars mod). Furthermore, it allows for critique on stuff like models before they're actually put forward for the official release.

    It's secretive stuff like that, that not only makes me think TLD will never be released, but I don't really care if it is. There's nothing to get amped up over. I could say I've made a total conversion to the Dragon Age world, but I'm not going to prove it. No buzz.

    No but really, hope this mod actually... you know, happens. Being on the SWC team will be a lot less annoying without requests for that specialised clone trooper with armour made for handling red liquids in windy environments at night. I think it has a green stripe.

    Well since I suck, I was playing a crossbow dude as well.

    I was on the castle walls attempting to pick off some Nords who had entered the grounds and were trying to take the flag. Suddenly I heard the whoosh of a bolt and a gargling grunt. I spin around and a Huscarl with a giant axe falls dead right next to me. And behind him, another of my cowardly crossbow-wielding comrades. It was like that generic movie scene where one of the heroes is a split second from certain death.
  20. Problem with improving standing quest

    I get the same problem. I just gave a lord some materials for making a gift (after not finding any velvet for months), then just as I hand them over, we're stuck in that awkward social situation where I want to say goodbye and be on my way, but he just looks at me like he has something to say.

    Then I Alt-F4 out of it, as I would in everyday situations.
