Are you using mercenaries? They have a bug where buying them horses don't increases your move speed. Also check your morale, specially for companions. Low morale decreases speed. Other than that just keep increasing pathfinding, the bonus is small but in the end it makes a big difference.

Is there a fix for the bug?

So of I recruit from villages then I can add horses to inventory and increase speed?

I like mounted riflemen. Have them hold position at start of battle, flank enemy (alone) on horseback, then grenade the **** out of them. Some will break off and chase you, by then your force has been peppering them with shot and taken out a lot of them. Your grenades will really tear them to shreds if you have at least 3 into throwing. I use medium or small grenades. You can shoot your chasers and order your mounted riflemen to charge. Some will ise pistols and carbines but I like to also equop them wih lances so they keep moving instead of trying to stay in one spot and sword fight. This tactic really disrupts the enemy and lets your troops tear them up.
