It seemed quite like a rant because of the essay long response in conjunction with a few exclamation points, and since on the internet it's damn near impossible to tell what tone is being told unless /sarcasm is employed.
Oh, sorry, I reread and can see why you'd think it was more of a rage/rant post.

I believe the Katana is a good sword and is not the best out there. You do bring up plenty of valid points on the effectiveness of the blade, however I think the way it is curved, it's weight, and is fought with (i.e. the way of Bushido) makes it better than some of the other swords I have seen.
The bold bit I can agree with, to an extent. Certainly the Japanese fighting style was effective, though I'm not sure how effective it would be in a large scale formation battle against Euopeans (it seems more of a duelling and small scale skirmish, combat style). Many European swords were light weight and had curved blades (messers, hangers, falchions), though these fell out of favour as armor became more prominent and effective. From what I can remember, they were mostly used because they were cheap to make and they could double up as woods tools (that's what the curve is for, much like machetes - helps prevent the blade getting stuck in trees and things), being frequently used by woodsman rather than soldiers. I'd imagine that if curved blades were that much better in combat, soldiers would have used them more frequently, since they were readily available.

Now that is not to say the other swords are crap or anything but if a sword is very light then I already consider it good. Please note this is all my opinion and personal tastes.
Yeah, I know what you're saying. I understand that many prefer katanas, but all that I was debating was whether they'd been actually used by Europeans. My points about why the katana is inferior are coming from the point of view where some opponents have armor and where they also already have curved blades as well as straight blades. Just doesn't seem any reason to buy a katana for the purposes of using it in those circumstances. IRL in modern times, sure, why not? Back then, I'll believe it when I see any evidence of it.

Also even though it is not named as such, it is in WFaS and it's even in M&B vanilla (in secret chests to my knowledge).
Yes, this saddens me. Well, it doesn't bother me in fictional Warband, but I just don't see the need to put them in WFaS, since it seems that they weren't used. It'd be like (to use a firearms analogy, sorry to those who don't follow it) a Heckler and Koch fanboy putting G36s in a game about regular US Army soldiers in Afghanistan (please no politics here). It simply is not correct for either side to have them and is glaringly, hideously wrong. And yes, I'm aware that horrible games like CoD do this.
