Why is the intro screen in chinese? Or the logo? Shouldn't it be easy to make, like, chinese and english versions with different things in them?
Also, why is 25% 75% of the text in such a mangled form of english that it breaks immersion and is very hard to understand at first glance? Do these developers need translators, or what is the issue?
(Despite this, it's an awesome mod with great everything-else other than text!)
This reply is directed not only towards the original author, but towards everyone who has, in their mind or in the board, portrayed this very same aspect.
Hey!
Sorry for the late reply, but I can offer you my sentiment on this topic. The thing is, this mod is being made using very little human resource (and oolonglgx is doing a terrific job at it, really!). The main focus has been on the story-line and collection of new features, with careful testing done previous to every new release. Translating the mod has always been subordinate engagement, and I wouldn't say L&D has ever been troubled with a bad transcription (keep in mind the work has been done by people to whom English is by no means a mother tongue). Yes, it's clearly weird, but for me, it's only ever offered an addition to the apparent eccentric and unconventional nature of L&D. As to the work on the transliteration, yes, it's just a whole bunch of rough work. I worked on it for a very short time back in what was perhaps 2012. My original optimism of soon backing the entire dialogue left me even more hopeless a little while later as I understood that there was no end to it. Have you ever noticed how much bloody text this mod has? I filled my computer up with several .txt files, each one extensively protracted. Nora_lee, whom I had the pleasure of co-operating back then (hey Nora, it's been a while!), made it clear, that the completed work had to be of very high quality. No half-way solutions or quick fixes were wanted, well-made and thought-through proportions were the goal in every aspect of the mod. So I soon abandoned my work, afraid I would tie myself up for years to come. The original translations I wrote are few, most of them in the random, smaller screens, not related to the main story (although I believe we did finish all the main chats for Zendar as well, but don't quote me on that). I remember researching modern English (not British) street language ("Chav") and Scandinavian terminology for the bandit and sea bandit/sea raider screens, and so on, although the results turned out poor considering the amount of time invested. That's the thing, you can't have a high-end product overnight, and L&D has only ever been destined to offer the very best, the créme de la créme, the cherry on the ice-cream cake to it's players. If you feel like you want to and could chime in and offer a hand, go ahead! Light&Darkness has always been and will remain the best mod M&B has seen. If you want to argue, then you're on, baby!
