Recruitment, troop level up method, noble troops, leadership and Vigla recruits (it's long, sorry).

Hopefully the devs see your post, it's well thought out! Just wanted to offer my two cents on certain points:

#2 - one of the reasons I appreciate (and wish there were a more flexible system for specifying more requisites to upgrade aside from money and a choice item) the current system is that it takes into account post-battle looting. Recovering horses from a battle is generally how I upgrade my cavalry, not by purchasing them in a town. I would like the same to be applied to armor and arms, but then there's the complexity of specifying which weapons qualify for specific unit types, and that all seems unnecessary given their other priorities. It's always been strange that upgrade costs are so low relative to the market price of new equipment, though.

#3 - Nobles should generally not be found in towns, largely because towns are where the free commoners and burghers live, not the nobles. Being that this is based on the High Medieval period, most lords owned manors and castles in the countryside, so it makes sense for the more elite troops that would presumably form their retinue be found there.

    Thanks for your thoughts

2 – So, I get that, and I remember, when the game came out I did the same thing and it worked fairly ok, but right now I feel it is much more difficult (in the last two times that I started a new game). Maybe the looting system and the items available in towns needs to the balanced more. On second note, it would be nice if you could choose which horses will be used for the level up, because I won a bunch of horses in tournaments and now, they are with my Mamelukes. Me and my companions didn’t have enough ridding skill to use them (and I wanted to save them for us to use).

3 – Well, yes nobles would have their villas and properties outside the cities, but I think the game (as it is presented) falls in the last years of the roman empire, nobility would have their villas and castles, but would still be present in the cities. I get your point and is worth considering. Maybe they could be present at least in the capitals, a place that would naturally concentrate nobles from that faction. I hope they just find a way to balance this in the future. Maybe castles could have recruits too (a reduced number, not comparable to villages and cities). There is a very nice mod that shows which villages have noble recruits (and helps to see how unfair the random distribution can be), that would be something worth adding. To make it more interesting they could make that you can only mark the village as having noble troops after you visit it.

PS: What you said about the level up cost and the armor and weapons they have: I sometimes look at my cataphracts during the start of a battle and demand to know how they got those things, while I'm wearing something I won at a tournament.

    Resolved Auto-blocking not working properly.

Hi, can you provide a video of this bug happening against melee attacks? You can upload it to Youtube.
I'm sorry, I didn't receive any more notifications about this topic, so I didn't see your request. I believe the issue has already been solved, because I just downloaded an update, entered the game and now I can keep the shield up and cancel bow shots. Thank you so much

    Resolved Auto-blocking not working properly.

Auto-block also prevents you from cancelling a bow shot (and presumably any other ranged attacks). Presumably it would work were a melee attack incoming.
That's right, I forgot about that one, thanks! It also makes shield bashing more difficult, since you can't keet the shield up.

    Resolved Auto-blocking not working properly.

You can't keep your shield raised to defend against projectiles (or even if you are facing a very agressive or numerous enemy and you want the shield to be up for some time). Otherwise it works fine, you still need to get the timing right, even with the shield, thanks for adding this feature.

Recruitment, troop level up method, noble troops, leadership and Vigla recruits (it's long, sorry).

I had some ideas recently about these topics, don’t know if similar suggestions were made. 1 – I liked the recruitment options from With Fire and Sword, where you went to cities asking troops to be trained. Now I wouldn’t suggest that as replacement, but as an addition, here is what I thought...

    April 27th patch?

It was a small hotfix to the beta branch so we included the patch notes in the previous post.

Thanks, but what about the 300mb from yesterday?

    April 27th patch?

Something weird happened, the last patch that the game received was on April 25th, but yesterday my game downloaded a 300mb update... the game was up to date (I had the last patch and beta hotfix from the 25th), I don't know what it was. Today it downloaded a 37kb one.

    Obese soldiers

Having the same problem since the Beta Branch e1.1.0. My soldiers are not obese, but they are fat, I feel bad for my horses.

    Patch Notes e1.0.7

First let me say that I'm really happy with these daily patches, thank you for your hard work. However, I would like to offer a constructive criticism on two things:

1 – I understand that the experience gained with the skills in practice fights cannot be equal to the one gained in real fights. The problem is that right now, and I believe this is a consensus among players, leveling up your abilities is unbelievably slow (all of them, not only the fighting ones). Of course, this is something you guys will eventually balance out. The point is: right now, leveling in practice fights/tournaments or in real battles is slow and you just made the practice fights/tournaments even slower, without making it more attractive to do so in real battles. I few it is nearly impossible to level things like athletics and one-handed fighting in real battles. Either you get killed because you are fighting alone and looters are harder in this game, or you have an army and you can’t grind the XP because your army is also killing enemies. As I’ve said, I understand the need to balance the practice fights and tournaments, but please consider that you also need to balance the skill levelling as well.

2 – Another similar situation with the horses. Yes, we were receiving too many horses upon defeating caravans and lords in battle. The problem is, some of those horses were necessary. Let give you an example: I started a new game Sunday at night, so yesterday I spent most of the day levelling my character with the practice fights. I was happy that now my character had a fighting chance, since enemies have like 150 points in the combat skills and before that I had 50. I managed to get the most important ones, for my character, to 100 or 75. Went on to pledge myself to the Southern Empire and started building an army. Then comes the need to buy horses and war horses to upgrade my troops (I like to focus in cavalry early on, given the mobility and how they ravage infantry in open battles). I was fighting some enemy lords and using the horses that came from them to upgrade my troops to Heavy Cavalry or Bucelarii. Now I’ll get less horses, which makes sense. The problem is that the available horses in the villages that produce then is not enough for me. So, you guys fixed something, without fixing the other side of it. If those villages offer more horses for the player to buy, no problem. Otherwise it’s just going to be more difficult to upgrade your army to higher tiers of cavalry.

    Sorry for the long post.

How to make smithing an engaging system: a comprehensive list of additions and changes

Totally agree, especially with the renown part and that the waiting period could be redesigned to be the time necessary to complete those smithing tasks. Just to let you know, if you put the mouse over your character in the smithing screen you can see the stamina.
