An update on this issue: You join the polish faction when you complete the Warsaw quest!

I cheated my way through the siege (since there is no way to recruit any lord to do join you, even my friends won't accept, i had to siege it by myself), met the king to complete the quest, and he made me swear loyalty to the Polish Commonwealth, rewarding me with a lousy village.

I guess the rest of the questlines work similarly. My gripe with this one is that the lords aren't rallying on you to assault Warsaw when they are suposed to.

There should be a Big Huge Warning somewhere alerting people about it! A confirmation box or something before accepting to start it.

Is there any way to circunvent this? Any cheat, save editing, whatever? Or anyway to get out of the storyline and be able to start it again?

The tips in this thread have helped me a lot, thank you all!

I'm using the 'big musket core with pikemen in front as anti-cavalry screen plus me and cavalry as a mobile potentially flanking or exploiting force' aproach, with great results. Still I get my ass whiped sometimes against lords with reiters and enough good cavalry, but if the quality of troops is similar, I usually can beat forces much bigger than mine.

What are your thoughts about caravan forts? I find that the AI is quite good at firing against them, so they dont seem to provide significant protection, while making the defending forces act cumbersomely and IMHO, not firing effectively. In my experience, when I tried to defend inside one, the result was bad, while I usually get great results when attacking them.

I'm having exactly the same problem. 
I'll try cancelling the quest and taking it again as sugested.

But just to be sure: Has anyone succesfuly completed this quest? Do the lords accept to join you at some point?

Also, can anyone confirm that you can't join a faction unless you get through the storyline? I thought the storyline was optional, and I read some ppl suggesting not to follow those quests due to their buggyness.
