I'm probably going to just rehash what everyone else has said as I haven't read all the posts in this thread yet....
The game is currently beta and it shows. There is a lot missing. However, I have never in my 21 years of playing computer games encountered combat quite like this in any other game. The dynamics are nothing short of superb and it's a hell of a lot of fun. Isn't that what playing PC games is all about? Fun?
What else do I like? No scripting! Most of the latest 1st/3rd person shooters are scripted to death. Yes, they may have incredible graphics (Doom 3), but become very tedious after a short while simply because you learn to anticipate the events. You know what's coming and you adapt. With games like this, you see variety because the battles are always different. Give me gameplay over graphics every single time. Eye candy alone just doesn't cut it. Doom 3 and Farcry were lovely to look at, but dreadfully dull because they were effectively showcases for the latest graphics engine innovations. Nothing more. (flame proof vest on!)
The graphics in this game are good, but not top notch. But, that's a good thing isn't it? I'd rather the game didn't run *only* on the latest Alienware PC because that eliminates 99% of PC owners. If the gameplay is awesome, does it really matter so much whether it's got the latest bells and whistles in DirectX?? Look at GTA Vice City for example. The graphics were pretty good, but look dated now. Yet, the game is still fantastic to play because you don't notice the lack of DirectX 9c support as you're too busy enjoying yourself.
It's all about perspective. Compare these two amazing programmers and what they've produced so far with the likes of Ubisoft, EAGames etc. and yes, they are in a different league. Yet, those companies have millions to spend on development, hardware, top graphics designers, programmers, producers, marketing etc. etc. Are their games better for all that? Not really imnsho.
Here you have a beta game that's got a hell of a lot going for it. There are still issues, there are still many things missing. But, there's a thriving community who are totally dedicated to help make this game a success and two very talented people busy behind the scenes trying to make us all happy.
Look at the current version number and play the game again with that in mind. Look at the price and tell me it's not worth the money?
If you don't understand now, you never will and this game really isn't for you. Why bother posting on the forum expecting us to sell the game to you????? Just do the same as the rest of us....download the demo....play....decide whether you like it or not....either buy it or uninstall. Simple really, isn't it?
