Are there any other out there that started playing with the easy save without quitting option, built up the character a bit and then wished they could change back to quit only at exit ? I have become attached to my character and would like to have changed to the other way of doing saves about...
  3. Loot Question

My guess is it is an attempt to keep some balance. With heavy weapons and black armor in the game it would make things pretty easy once you got black armor and a war axe or sword of war as a low level character.

Maybe this will change if Armagan goes through with upping the skill limit to 10. The assumption that I am going on is that if/when he does that he will also introduce some more formidable foes to even it out.

So far I havent had any luck finding black armor on black knights, it seems that it just refuses to give it as loot. The side effect is that there is very little loot for blacknights and such. It doesnt seem to replace it with any lesser loot, which would be unrealistic anyway. Im expecting this to change, but either way, you can eventually find the good stuff if you spend enough time shopping at the smithy.

I understand your point but sometimes killing a footman may be more difficult than killing a horseman. It is very difficult to quantify such things.

Killing horses was part of the harsh reality of medieval warfare. It wouldn't be correct to leave that out. But rewarding players for killing horses is an entirely different thing.

My first post here was kind of an (in character of a heartless bastared) joke. Im not asking for more exp for killing the horse, but I'll let it go.

It's all good. Glad to be here.

  5. Horse kills?

Then by all means make the horses impervious to attack (it will hurt realism though), but isnt it kind of unfair to get the same exp for killing footmen as you do for mounted cavalry? Im not looking for a lot really, just maybe an extra 10-15% over the same level troop that has no horse.

If you want to discourage horse killing, then you could give an exp penalty for killing the horse.

I have no grudge against our equine friends, I would rather have the money for selling them anyway. I found myself running out of food while camping outside Zendar last night. Ran out of food, troops started whining about it, and while I could have dropped that swaybacked saddlehorse in for them to eat, I chose not to. I was close enough to just break camp and head to the merchant for some dried meat, which is what I did. Sold the horse to pay for the meat in fact.

I like animals, even the ones that arent cute.

Once again we get a very informative post that should be appended to the quick and dirty manual.

A confirmation prompt is just silly. Redundancy is not the way to go, convention is. I agree that the button locations should be matched.

Im not sure it's so silly. If your troops are beating the opposition and you are going to flakeout just before total victory, then it seems like your troops would proably say something like. "Leave? Are you sure sir? I mean, we have them on the run now, it would be easy to finish them off."

Wether it's worth the effort to add in is another question though.

  8. What RPGs do you like?

My fave roleplaying games arent even classed as roleplaying games hehe.

    Systemshock 2
    Deus Ex 1

Both of those had very good character development, and thats what RPGs are really all about. Yeah they are shooters, but they were really just roleplaying games that happen to be to be shooters.

Same for my fave turn based tactical games.

    X-com 1 and 3.

  9. Throwing stuff while mounted

Go try to throw something the way that you are talking about, and then get back to me. Its not about accuracy, though it is affected, it's about leverage. If it is allowed there should be far less damage for a hit.

Daggers and stones will be effected less, but spears and axes are going to require more leverage.

  10. Horse kills?

I already get a bonus for not killing the horse, I get the horse. But it IS more dificult to kill off a mounted troop. Thats what I think should get a bonus, if the horse dies in the process then thats how it goes.

Should I get exp for killing a riderless horse? I dont even think you can kill a riderless horse, can you? Never tried it. Well I guess I'll go try it now...

Ok Vaigerian deserters, some mounted, some on foot. 85 exp for killing either one, the mounted troops though get around better and can deal warrider damage. So how is it fair to get the same exp for more work and more risk? Managed to kill a couple of the mounted guys without killing their steed, turned fired arrows at the horse, and no luck there. without a rider they are just not mortal.

Its not a big deal I suppose, but it is kind of a bummer. I still suport more EXP for killing mounted troops. Maybe have that experience lost if the mount dies first, but thats a rip too, cause if the troop were not mounted and I hit him he would be dead right away, in effect, much of the time I have to kill the troop twice.

  11. Horse kills?

A kill is a kill, horse or man. I think killing both should award more points, I mean its harder to fight mounted troops, the EXP should reflect that. So yeah, I agree.

  12. Throwing stuff while mounted

Sorry man, I disagree on this one. When you throw something, even standing you generally tend to plant one foot in front and one to the rear, in effect making you throw the opposite direction as the hand you are throwing with. I think Armagan has this just right.

  13. Honor Points resulting in Reputation

Sounds good to me, it might also be usefull toward maybe recruting from deserted troops too. Maybe they wouldnt mind serving under a commander who was more honorable than the one that went AWOL from.

Once they had been defeated in battle you could recrute the prisoners, rather than selling them off as slaves.

  14. Plotline: Do we really need it?

I think the point of the detractor is that they are concerned that constructing a heavy plot may cut into time that could be spent elsewhere. that is a concern I share, however....

Since then I have seen mention of using any plot that IS developed as an example to modders. And I am swayed by that argument. At least SOME plot need to be done if for no other reason than to show people how it should be done.

But again, a fixed plot is only going to be fun once or twice. At least that been my experience. Your milage may vairy.

  16. The mods you want to see

A George Romero style zombie mod. Thats the first thing I thought of when I saw a hord of river pirates pour ove a hill to attack me at night.

Going from town to town trying to scavenge enough food and weapons to survive. Meeting other survivers (heros) and trying to form a colony to ride out the nightmare. Facing raiders bent on taking the supplies you have risked life and limb (literally) to amass.

  17. It's a dark, dark place...

I few torchs couldnt hurt anything, I suppose. But I'm not having trouble seeing either. Maybe it's the setting on your video card? Have you tried boosting the gamma or brightness in the video configs? Shouldnt need much.

Does daylight seem dim at all?

In any case, I think the fire effect works pretty well and the dynamic lighting/shadow effects are nice enough to add some nice atmosphere to the courtyard.

If the mods are easy enough to make, and the community gets large and productive enough, then hell yeah. Especially if the ratings are community based.

Ratings sites (when done properly) for game mods are totally tits.
