What's your favorite era and location for a strategic/tactical video game?

Definitely the era between the Peace of Westphalia and the Congress of Vienna (1648-1815), the Golden Age of the musket and the precursor to modern warfare.

The Great War Documentary Series (Week by Week)

Gotta give a salute to the Central Powers. Last year they survived the Somme and the Brusilov offensive, stopped Italy at Isonzo and the British at Mesopotamia, conquered Romania and managed to continue fighting in eastern Africa and Somalia (the Dervish state). Pretty good considering their...

    Why is there no Vyborg?

The North Eastern parts of the map are empty enough as they are and then there's even a whole historical town missing. Edit. I noticed it is there, though with some pre-civilization name and merely as a village. 4/10 §h1ttý mod.

Was WW1 really the first world war?

Umm... I'm not saying my personal standards aren't up to debate (because that was one of the points of the thread and jacobhinds challenged them with an excellent example), but I do consider them relatively accurate because I've based them on views and opinions given by historians. But...

Do you feel any film has ever captured the true horror and brutality of combat?

These are a bit of cliched, but Come and See and Ivan's Childhood are pretty much as far removed from fantasy as they get.

Was WW1 really the first world war?

The Australian invasion of German colonies in the Pacific would have likely still happened. The unstable political climate in China combined with the close proximity of British colonial possessions would've most likely made the German owned Tsingtao-area also a battlefield sooner or later. Lack...

Was WW1 really the first world war?

In my mind the Mongol conquests were too unconnected and spanned too long a timespan to be considered a single conflict. Besides, they took place on only two continents and saw little to no naval action (the only time I remember that happened were the failed invasions of Japan, though I'm very...

Was WW1 really the first world war?

I have no strong opinion on the subject, but the question has crossed my mind multiple times recently. Since the beginning of the modern age, European colonial powers have waged many major global wars that have taken place across more than one continent and thus could be considered world wars...
