Background:
The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom (also known as the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement) was the largest peasant uprising in Chinese history and the war with the most casualties in the history of human warfare. Nearly 100 million people (almost 95.11 million) died in this war, even more than WW2.At the end of the 19th century, the Qing Empire gradually declined due to the invasion of Western powers. The invasion of China by Western forces has aggravated social conflicts in China. The import of opium led to the outflow of a large amount of silver and deteriorated China’s economic environment. The corruption of officials and the oppression of the people were also aggravated by the reparations of Western forces.
The peasants who could not bear the exploitation and oppression of the Qing Empire launched an uprising in Jintian Village, Guangxi under the leadership of the God Worshipping Society, led by Hong Xiuquan and Yang Xiuqing, this uprising opened the prelude to China's largest peasant revolutionary war.
