After a successful Warband Revival League which saw Commando Oida dominate all opposition to lift the trophy in the grand-final against Apis Europae, a part of the scene expressed the wish to stand aloof from division based format and attempt a return to traditionally more competitive and entertaining formats. Answering the call was most-established admin trio Aeronwen, Deacon & Scar who settled on bringing back one of warband greatest competition of all time, the European Championship Series.

With the help of Yamipirate and Bullez - who have both been instrumental in the success of recent tournaments - the ECS admin team intends to inspire a new breath within a warband competitive scene which has not yet been fully convinced by what Bannerlord currently offers for competitive grounds. Straying somewhat from the format which established the ECS has one of the most competitive tournaments in the scene, this fourth edition will have the challenging aim of creating more high-stakes matches than recent competitions did, without risking to exclude smaller teams in the early stages.

The tournament's structure has been therefore reworked, with the first 12 seeded teams being spread in three different groups, A, B & C whereas the 7 remaining ones will fight each other in Group D. This should hopefully provide for a fair middle-ground where most encounters remain exciting and where the less experienced teams don't exit the tournament after two stomps.

While two out of the three matches in Group D have already been played earlier this week, the big part of week 1 is yet to happen, as Group A, B & C teams make their entrances in the ECS4. Throughout the tournament, BladeCast_TV will try and offer you a comprehensive report of the ECS history, the stakes present in this edition for many of these teams and as per usual, as many detailed interviews and previews as possible.

Tonight, we'll be looking at getting back in the swing of things as we cover Drüberfahrn vs Time Travelers, in Group A. A lot of exciting teams are due to play tonight and although many matches are likely to be one-sided, at least on paper, we feel this particular encounter could tell us a lot about what to expect from these two teams in the tournament.

As we begin the first week of the European Championship Series, a lot of our questions are yet to be answered. One of them would be to try and guess how far the new assembled germanic team Drüberfahrn can go in the tournament. On paper, the squad assembled by Vincent and Augustus looks rather strong, filled with several of Malta's most active players in recent tournaments such as Haakon, Bullez or Ascarion. Looking a bit more in-depth in this roster, pretty much all its players have played together in tournaments recently, be it the NC19, the WNL8 or the WRL. On top of being experienced and possessing a solid fire-power, Drüberfahrn can thus rely on a solid synergy which should help them overcome most obstacles.

Their first challenge will present itself in the form of Time Travelers, lead by Kawaii. Although they were meant to play in Group D initially, the ECS staff decided to move them up a stage, including them in the main event on the back of a solid and experienced roster. The questions marks surrounding TT are explained by the class each of its members will be playing in the event, as most of their experienced players will not be playing their 'main' class. For example, Kawaii who established himself as a top-tier cavalry will be leading from the infantry whereas Oneil, who stood out recently as a very talented infantry, will be playing ranger. This should effectively allow TT to have all their players in roles they are comfortable with but it obviously is to the detriment of exploiting the full potential of their potential carries.

This makes it hard to see Drüberfahrn concede an early defeat to the likes of Kawaii and his men nevertheless, it could also prove more difficult than a walk in the parks for the germans would they underestimate TT. Moving forward, this match should also serve as a good indication of what each squad can offer in the ECS and whether or not the seeding order will be respected in Group A. Come find out for yourself tonight at 19:15 GMT on BladeCast_TV!

A really good match. Good behaviour on both sides, the match started on time and breaks were very quicks between sets and maps. Props to Time Travelers for putting up one hell of a fight on Verloren, the crash from Oneil on Ruins' first round was unfortunate however I feel it's fair to say Druberfahrn was the best team on open all things considered. Good luck to both teams moving forward in the competition.
