  1. Large Bag of Khergit Arrows Resets to Regular

    Ringwraith #5 说:
You're scaring me. It took me FOREVER to find that mw bastard sword and I haven't seen another one since. Needs fixing, badly.

I think you can rest safe, as I traced my MW bow loss to a training field bug (and posted an independent thread on here). A quick test said that the bug didn't seem to apply to MW swords.

That said, I might give a bag of denars to some hired thugs and get them to rob you when you next stray into a city at night. I've yet to see a masterwork bastard sword at all, and would quite like one. Yours will do
  2. (1.003) Strong / Masterwork Bow vanishes in Training Field

Just worked out where my Masterwork bows were vanishing, I hope. If you go to the Training Field with a Strong / Masterwork bow equipped and select a bow training option (I just noticed when having a look at the horseback challenge but it looks to be the same on target practice) , you'll be...
  3. Large Bag of Khergit Arrows Resets to Regular

Possibly on a similar note: is it a feature, or are masterwork weapons supposed to default to ordinary weapons after significant use? Twice, now, I've had masterwork bows turn into ordinary bows in my inventory. I've checked this against previous saves and it is definitely happening.
  4. Whatever happened to the "Hall of Shame"?

You know, when I first came to this forum, I thought it was a realm of miserable gits. I'm sorry, but I did. Every post I could find was wearily answered with a Don't Do This / Don't Do That / Wrong Place / Wrong Suggestion / You Idiot, You've Burnt the Cakes / We've Said That A Million Times / Have You Not Read This Thread From May '05 / Yes, But That Was in Version n and Has Since Been Removed / If Anyone Mentions X Again Then I will KILLThem.

And this was overwhelming. It wasn't in a couple of instances, but in pretty much every thread.

I must have spent a couple of evenings reading through notices or FAQs before daring to make a post, because it was such an established community. And this forum is still a little daunting, because it does feel as if everything has already been discussed and you're now just waiting to see it happen.

In the past month, though, my view has changed significantly. I may be new, but I've already seen enough idiotic posts to wonder how some of you have the stamina to stick around. I've seen people post questions right after a top-thread had already answered their question. I've seen the same topic appear three times in a day. And this isn't counting the general practice to post before following any of the rules or reading the FAQs. In fact, I've seen enough clueless noobs that I've even wondered if you shouldn't need a licence before you're allowed onto the internet.

I sincerely hope that the new measures do help newcomers get answers to their questions before they start getting impatient and tapping on shoulders. To those of you who still put in the time, and who can still approach an old subject with new ears rather than instantly dismissing it, well done. You are a better person than I.
  5. I would pay for this game if..

    Jackal 说:
Better graphics. I realize this game isn't perfect, but perhaps better character models at the very least? If there were more details and optional equipment displaying on the character, such as accessories or more varieties in the armor and clothing.

It would be stupid to disagree with wanting better graphics, but something I respect in M&B is the emphasis on numbers over pretty character designs. In a system of finite resources, there comes a point where adding more detail to the character models means fewer people running around the battlefield. That's not to say there isn't leeway for improvement, but I'd like the priority to stay as it is.

Still, you sum up one of the problems facing developers today. They can come up with a great idea, then spend ages forging it into a robust design, and there will still be those who won't give it a second glance if it doesn't look like they spent a million on the art budget.
  6. Marnid + Borcha Earning money

In my usual generous fashion, I attempted to grace my heroic wards with hand-me-down kit for which I no longer had a use, and noticed that Marnid had only 12 dinars to his name while Borcha had amassed 340 in a much shorter time.

Although it seemed to be perfectly in keeping with their characters (Borcha being a *cough* reformed horse thief), I figured it was more likely a consequence of their trade skill in some forgotten equation. I was probably being romantic, and didn't notice some rip-off transfer of gear.
  7. Poll: What fighting-style addition are you most keen to see?

I suppose the incongruity is that they feed into the body armour total rather than occupying a different hit region as with boots for legs. If they cover both of the upper arms then their armour rating isn't wildly out of proportion with their corresponding body armour type. And yet, as far as I can tell, bare hands don't count as an unarmoured weak spot, and gauntlets alone will provide all-over body protection (foreboding shades of the retiarius argument, there).

So I'd be all for Calandale's suggestion, except for one reason.  I'd be seriously reluctant to see them go because it's a game, and in simple terms I liked having the extra things to shop for, buy and equip. Gauntlets have "added value" in this sense, and a straight kill solution here might just exacerbate the money sink issues. So I wonder if a more manageable fix is simply to scale the encumbrance so that gauntlets are a bigger drag than leather gloves, while the contributory factor is a less tangible proportion (perhaps +1 to +3) to avoid the obvious silliness of bare chests and iron fists being better than full leather.
  8. Need help with the Vaegir supply 6 sword mission

Its things like the so called 'sword', that seperate the wheat from the chaff.

I'm no farmer, but wouldn't a flail be better for that?
  9. Displaying map speed when standing

Good point. With such a title, the rest of my post is largely superfluous.
  10. Displaying map speed when standing

If this has been posted before, please treat this gently as an endorsement of same. And I wouldn't be at all surprised. But I've searched for a previous thread and if it exists then I missed it. I was thinking how unfortunate it was that I could only see my map speed when I was on the move. Why...
  11. .730 Trying to give troops to Marnit results in crash.

Just to add that this is still present in vanilla 0.751, as I found out this morning.
