Creative Assembly is not making a new engine from the ground up. They are tweaking/updating their current engine.
Firstly, Creative Assembly and R2TW was just an example on how to communicate with fans. Other developers are doing this too, developer blog and active website is more common than not. And it's working. I made this post because I love M&B, I love TaleWorlds and I'd love to hear what they're up to. I'd love them to do well.
The
M&B 2 announcement video (description) says "More details about Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord will be released in the coming months."
It's been 5. In all honesty, without that "coming months" I would've not even made this post. I thought they'd really be telling us something soon after the video.
Video says "Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord will build upon the popular Mount & Blade franchise bringing in many exciting and highly requested new features."
What features are being worked on now? That tells me they have a plan/design/goals, like Duh said...

Doesnt explain the utter silence. They have concept, game design, goals, progress and other things, which they can touch upon without needing any screenshots.
@Zemalf, there is a Bannerlord thread with some infos in the Guildhall section of this forum. http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,249537.0.html
Right on. Found it.
Mount & Blade 2 Alpha footage
The video gave me way more than what I got from the current info thread

tell me this, would you rather they wasted their time (and resources) making pretty things for you to look at before the game is released, constantly making posts about it etc, or would you rather they dedicated their time (and resources) to making a exceptionally good game?
I'd vote they make a damn good game rather than making lots of pretty pictures.
I'm not expecting anything pretty. I'd love to see/hear something!
But when the official discussion thread only says "It has been announced! Nothing but a teaser trailer for the moment" after five months, that's not how game developers work these days.
One word would be enough. Anything.
There's tons of suggestions already in
https://tricider.com/en/brainstorming/TPYL - how about commenting about those if they know it's in the game or they're working on it, trying to put it in game. Nothing definite, but their goals.
Developer blog. One post, or heck, one tweet a week about M&B 2.
Time invested in this communication: 30 seconds
Time away from development: Minimal (or None)
Impact on fans: HUGE.
