  1. Does MP work in the Beta Branch?

you can bring back players by fixing stuff, they still got a very dedicated mp community. If you wanna get new players you can make free2play weekends and stuff like that or advertisment in general. You can give out free loot aswell, if they ever introduce mp cosmetics.

Since the MP (at least right now) is so barebone anyway, they should literally make it free2play completly in my opinion.
  2. Does MP work in the Beta Branch?

well warband sp did not die off after 2-3 months, so not all singleplayer games are like that, in fact i know more people that are still playing the sp than the mp of warband even today (some with mods, some playing native). It was not to late to get the community back together and it is not for bannerlord. there are two kinds of players, those that enjoy singleplayer and those that enjoy multiplayer.

as someone who enjoyed the mass effect series and played all those games multiple times i can tell you now, the mp part is not needed to enjoy a game. in mass effect 3 they had mp, it sucked, i (and many others) still played the singleplayer multiple times, and that was a game with low replayability, warband had a huge replayability factor, i can already see the potential for bannerlord to have the same. just because you cannot enjoy games without a good mp it does not mean that no one can.

Warband was in a different timeline. Much different timeline. The attention span of most gamers is now much, much shorter since there is so many other new games to play, basically ever week, no matter what genre of game you enjoy. Can you quote a recent game that survived a lackluster launch? That managed to recover their playerbase with patch note and new features without a whole new DLC/Launch to bring back up the media and influencers attention to the online scene? I can't.

All I am saying is that TW will release a paid DLC or a multiplayer centered standalone version of the game later down the road to fix the issue and that we will probably be left in the dust until then, because in 2020, that's basically the only way to bring back players. And it kinda suck for us, players who actually bought the game for the multiplayer since it was advertised as also a multiplayer game. The closed beta was literally ONLY multiplayer, so hard for me and many others who couldn't access that closed beta phase to imagine that the multiplayer would release in such a poor state.

I totally hope I'm wrong, btw. I hope they can prove me wrong.

I'm glad you are enjoying the captain mode. I enjoy it too, to a certain extent. The status of the queue and the wait time tells me there is not that many of us, tho.

In any case right now the multiplayer is mostly unplayable for anyone who enjoy playing the latest version of the game, since you have to revert back to the "stable branch" in between every single player version, which requires you to redownload 2 go of data every time you switch, which is incredibly annoying when bandwith is such a limited ressource in a quarantine time, at least for my country.
  3. Does MP work in the Beta Branch?

The mods are the buying point of bannerlord, not native. Just wait and see how well mod support is and we can see how good it will be.

That's exactly the argument. They sold the game without the selling point. I have no doubt it will get better and the 25 players still playing will enjoy it a lot when we get mod support for multiplayer. But it will be too late to have an actual revigorated community. The average player is never going back to a game he had a terrible time with online, and right now, they all have a terrible time.
  4. Does MP work in the Beta Branch?

That's a stretch, they have made enough money to stay afloat for years. They are still working on the singleplayer a lot i doubt this will change.

Singleplayer will be a success no doubting that, multiplayer not that confident

I'm not talking about "staying afloat". Which company in their right mind would be content with staying afloat?
  5. Does MP work in the Beta Branch?

ye dude we're aware of that.
we've been asking for changes for months now. it's not on us

Here is what I'm guessing will happen :

Single player will die off (like all single player games do) after 2-3 months, their income will practically halt and they will have to sell at 75% off by next christmas. They will start realising that they do need the sale from the MP community, they will release a half assed "MP Centered" DLC for 20$ bucks that is basically a glorified fan mod and only then will we have community servers and modding support online.
  6. Does MP work in the Beta Branch?

Yeah i know, just missed it in the alpha branch since its not the "official" release you know. Most people are playing the regular branch.

It's in the beta branch. The thing that literally got a big ad for it on steam and on the TW website.

It seems obvious they are not focusing on multiplayer right now, I get that. But in my opinion they should, at the very least, release the mapmaker and modding tools so that the community takes care of it. In the state that it is in right now multiplayer will be dead in a short enough time and I don't think focusing on it then would make a lot of sense since it's not 2012 anymore, there is way too many other games to play, if a multiplayer games is not thriving right away it just dies off even if massively patched later since it just doesn't get any visibility from steam or influencers which drive 99% of traffic.

100k of people playing the single player. It's quarantine time, so most games are now thriving, at a peak traffic. And there is like barely 1k players on the MP right now and the queues are super long. It will be dead in a few weeks and I don't think there will be any way to revive then.
  7. Does MP work in the Beta Branch?

I queued for an hour (I was doing work on the side) and I gave up. There is not any single server running. Why would they even release a multiplayer beta patch note and let us start the multiplayer client, I do not know.
  8. Poll: Class System vs. Warband Loadout Customization

It's funny, a few people keep defending the class system, saying it's more "accessible" and more "casual".

I convinced a few friends to play Bannerlord skirmish with me yesterday, they played a very small amount of warband multiplayer before. All 5 of them first reaction : "WTF Why? Why is this so limited compared to the previous game?", literally none of them liked it. They are all pretty bad at the game still, but it took them basically two games to figure out how unbalanced things are and how they should all play armored archer or cav. They all enjoy single player and they are all used to being able to recruit any troop they want, equip whatever they feel like and create their own loadout. Isn't that one of the big reason why people love M&B?

For some reason, some people keep thinking that casual players are a bunch of idiots or something? They are not dumb, they just don't have the time to become quite as poficient as us dirty basement nerds, but M&B is a difficult game either way and multiplayer will never cater to the non competitive players. And the casual competitive players don't want a dumbed down system. It doesn't make the game more "accessible", it just makes it less customizable and new players will just get bored of it more quickly since they have less things to learn/experiment with. And right now, it also means that we are at the mercy of TW balancing team : since 99% of those class loadout are garbage, everyone is playing the exact same one and the game is 100% cav and archer spam. Very fun for new players, yes.

Of course mods and community servers will all fix this, but I am just worried it will be way too late and that in 6 months when all this get out there, most newer players will have had a terrible experience and will never want to come back. Hell, multiplayer is already dead and the game just released.

I have 37 friends in my steam list who own Bannerlord. They all tried multiplayer at least once. None of them still play it. My closer IRL friends (10 of them) reaction when I ask them if they liked the class system, without exception : "EW".
  9. Shields are op and there aren't enough skills to open up an opponent

What does horse HP and armour have to do with shield durability?
Global armour is a massive problem but unrelated to shields.
    Horse HP is fine.

Something is terribly wrong with cav right now. I'm not sure if it's the HP, the speed or the fact that it's basically impossible to stop a horse even with a spear that needs to be tweaked, but something needs to be tweaked and it should be top priority. Sure, it's possible for a team of well organized inf' to position itself to actually have a shot against cav spam in skirmish. But, since most people are playing in pub matches with rando since we don't have private server yet and since a big part of the player base are newer players, 90%+ of games are cav spam and it's incredibly annoying and repetitive.

I could see shield being nerfed later down the road, maybe nerfing the durability a little bit against axes, but it's simply not an actual issue until cav are fixed, right now shield wearing infantry is literally the weakest of role, by far. Cav - Range Inf - 2 Handers - Shield in that order. (Well, I guess two handed swords and axes kind of suck balls compared to polearms, maybe even more than shield, but that doesn't really matter when everyone is only playing polearms anyway.)

Horse HP and Armor needs to be fixed before shields simply because it's a much more urgent priority. Of coure it's related.
