    Succession Games

I'm curious, but has anybody here tried playing any Mount and Blade Warband succession games? For those who want to know more, it's basically a savegame that gets passed around from owner to owner. I suppose it's kind of pointless, yes, since most people are rather unlike in taste of troops...

Server List / Connecting through proxy?

Aaaaah. See, the problem is, most schools are utter MEOWS that constrict your use of their bandwidth for "un-educational purposes". My school uses a similar type of proxy, if not identical, as far as I can tell.

I would suggest asking the school politely if they'd lift whatever ban they have, start a petition or something. If your MnBW is on steam, go to the steam forums where they have a post dedicated to such schools.

Of course, the most basic and lazy way I take nowadays is Hotspot Shield. Lags, ads, but hey. SOMETIMES it works. But be careful, I don't know your school network policy. You can get in biiiig trouble if you do not comply.

Warband from another computer to this computer

At least your smarter than that idiotic guy. Tash-something, his name. Wanted to sue taleworlds. Anyways...

    What is the error message?

Windows XP, Vista or 7? (crashing issues)

This should go under technical support.

HANDY DANDY CHECKLIST: (If no, proceed further down the list)
    1) Got mods installed? If yes, tried playing on Native?

    2) Computer overheating? Common in laptops, mine literally fries for some unknown reason on any game. ANY.

    3) Are you sure latest drivers don't have issues? At one point, not sure if it was for MnBW, it was the new driver's fault.

    4) Windows 7 64-bit worked perfectly fine IIRC for MnBW. Then again, not sure what version his comp was running. Mooching off other people=You don't know very much about the person's files out of politeness.

    5) Are you using Direct X 11? Go back to 9. 9 is nice and stable IMHO.

    6) You tried EVERYTHING? Including formatting your computer? Joking, but that's a strong word. Try reinstalling? You didn't say if you did that.

    7) I know it isn't nice nor fair of me to ask, but you are VERRRRY sure there is no virus, no files which slipped your notice? No nothing draining your CPU power?

 Can your computer stand up to running the game, in the first place?

    9) As a side note, the lag at SOME battles... Perhance, it was in a forest? That is natural. For the tavern, I suspect your smoke setting is too high.

    10) If it didn't work, POST IT IN THE TECH SUPPORT FORUM! HAVE A GOOD DAY!

Note: This handy dandy checklist was typed on the spur of the moment by me. I am VERY likely to forget I typed it and I hope it can fix your problems, because I probably won't be checking back any time soon. But yeah.. Try editing the smoke (See magelord tweaks.. Was it his tweaks? Me sleepy) for taverns. For trees, now. I can't really do much about that. Detestable trees. Main reason I love the wintery snowman mod when I found it, KILL DEM TREESSSS.

    Enlist in an army?

If you could do the above (Show what orders are being barked out by that general of yours), what about disobeying him?

Like.. For example, he says: Melee weapons only! and Charge! Instead, you hold position and happily take out a crossbow. At the end of the fight, a roll is made against your relationship, your rank, your persuasion skill if you have one, and the number of troops you killed, and see whether you get punished or not. By punished, I mean being thrown out/a prisoner/executed, in order of failure to pass the roll.

NOTE: If you actually take my dithering seriously, that execution part will make a lot of people QQ, so there probably should be an option to resist and have a chance at fighting it out. Or you can choose to sit there and quietly be-headed (U see wut I did dere?).

Another Note: If you make this, I hail you as the new person in my Happy Mods book, right up with Magelord for his tweaks and all the other mod makers back for vanilla. Fun... Now all I need is a mod where I can be a street cutpurse.

    More siege options

If this idea makes it in, I definitely want boiling pitch and a torch to be able to be used by yourself/AI against AI/yourself... Though it'd need a system that will make it flow from higher areas to lower areas, and somehow be treated as a crossbow bolt against every guy it touches.

    Class Creation?

    @Chucklzz.

    1) I don't quite see the point of having a character class. The main freedom of the game is the freedom of using whatever you like, whenever you like. I myself switch regularly from spear-wielder to swordsman to crossbowman throughout the course of 80 days or so. If you were keen on the role-playing aspect of being able to only use one, you could practice restraint. Pardon if this isn't what you meant.

    2) Daggers are not useless at all if the enemy's on foot, and if they're on a horse and your engaging them on foot with a dagger, your doing it wrong... But yeah. How exactly is a dagger useless? I spent a few games using nothing but a butchering knife. Admittedly, I aim for only daggers with high speed, without caring about the damage, and pump agility. My theory for any weapon usage is that offense is the best defense, so I guess my view is skewed.

    3) Walking around as a portable tank is very dull. I only load out in heavy armor when fighting those Sarranid people in the desert and I get to use a horse. Otherwise, I choose to, at least nowadays, "Captain" myself a unit of, say, the Rhodok Sergeants by equipping myself almost identically but using a different helmet, usually the vaegir war mask. The advantage of using one handed swords and daggers still exist. Apart from the obvious YOU CAN HAVE A SHIELD, the relative speed of the weapon and my agility ensures that I will never need to manual block, a failing of mine. And assuming your fighting the AI, one handed weapons are my best friend. Reason? The shorter reach ensures that once you get in their swing range, unless your fighting people like the Rhodoks or Sarranids armed with maces, you can kill them taking very little damage.

PS: Wait, since when was an assassin style character impossible? AI cannot see through trees and hills, and usually they go for the army (the main bulk of them), so if I can handle about 20 of them with a mix of crossbow bolts and dagger, I can sneak up behind them and snipe any enemy Lords, most kindly standing out with their whacking crazy helmets, assuming they haven't died yet.

PS number 2: I also wish to point out that the best weapon=/=best stats. I find that a particular weapon; particularly the butchering knife and the epee/foil/whatever that was in the weapons mod, suits my fighting style very well.

(Disclaimer: Not sure if it was butchering knife or balanced dagger by now)

    Block arrows with 2h

    Finished 说:
    Sorry, was busy.

No? Then try this. I can hit, and I could block arrows or at least 1 of 5.
Hm. Let's see. I'm not about to doubt your skills, it IS possible. The thing is, that I probably failed to mention: People who are a wee bit busy trying to avoid getting slashed and stabbed tend to be unable to deflect arrows one of 5. And even if they could, as I borrow from a book: "You hit it one out of five times. The other four times, your dead." And were you deflecting those arrows with chainmail or the typical mail of the soldiers in the time we're speaking about? It affords less flexibility and can, combined with a helmet, slow you down sufficiently when your already weary. Of course, if you want to argue at the start of the fight, but that's too little time for MnB developers to want to work it in.

    2) A medieval bow wasnt a 1 shot super wonder weapon machinegun or something, it was a peasants support weapon for the better troops. It wasnt possible to deal out headshots, it was inaccurate, it was slow, and did absolutely no damage to plate. (Only the best archers with the best bows could do a tiny bit of damage to knights.)
Note: I'm not saying one archer. In mount and blade, if you and an archer are dueling it out, maybe, but that isn't enough to warrant implementing the feature. And in mass fire, arrows are pretty indiscriminate.

    3) It would be impossible to block arrows with a tiny shield as well, following your arguments the only thing that could help would be the the Rhodock shield.
*Rhodok. Yes, it IS rather impossible. That's where size attribute comes in. Ever tried going into first person and seeing the difference between a raised and lowered shield when it was a small one..? Hurts.

    4) Afaik the game doesnt make a difference if its your hand that gets hit or your heart. So its a videogame not realism anyway. When a guy can die in seconds cos of 2 arrows in his hand so why shouldnt it be possible to block (with some luck) at least a few arrows?
AFAIK, the game DOES. Notice how armor adds to Head Chest and Legs respectively? Here you go. Hit the least armored part and he hurts more, realistic? And if he dies because of two arrows in the hand, he should wear gauntlets. In real life, two arrows IN the hand like you say has a very high chance of hitting a nice little place where blood just gushes out.

    Block arrows with 2h

Let's see what your asking for!

    1) Players complain 2H is OP and 1H isn't the last I checked, and ranged is the proposed counter. Not that I agree, but mob hysteria is a bit hard to argue with.

    2) Your a trained soldier, not a samurai/ninja. You most certainly do not follow a code of conduct that which is a samurai's, nor do you follow Ninja philosophies like.. Iunno.. Not screaming out as you try to stab someone in the back with an over-sized knife? But to you, just cause they can do it, omg so can you. Hmm!

    3) The only way archers wouldn't complain of something like this was with the coding requiring that an arrow must hit the blade, calculate speed, do damage to blade, and then bounce off.

A lot more, but I'll keep it at that.

Now, let's see. In real life, what about I take any object that approximates the piercing and weight of an arrow. You can use anything two handed, except a shield, to attempt to deflect it. Kind of like softball, really, except after trying to "deflect" a few "arrows" that bat/sword would turn into a feather-duster.

A way your idea could be implemented without being bull**** in terms of logic: Two handed weapons are huge affairs which are as big as two men. And even then, shooting it a couple of times would turn the blade useless if it were to penetrate it (The job of arrowheads), and your no way in hell deflecting. In fact, it becomes a shield that is literally useless. So... Still want it implemented? In fact, I'd like you to quote historic evidence that it can be done that doesn't rely on a sect of warriors without name or mention, and don't give me the bull**** about Alexander the Great ordering spearmen to... Ridiculous, I say.

For both gameplay and historic purposes, I say no.

TL;DR: Finished, no offense, but dun suggest random **** k. If you want it, suggest it for a mod, but otherwise, this idea fails to hell if applied in multiplayer.

Am I the only one who sees a river of tears and ragequit and rageforums should this be implemented? Always goes this way:
    (Rather off topic)
1H NO SHIELD: OMG 2H OP BRAKE MAH SHEEELD
1H SHIELD: OMG ARCHERS OP CANNOT BLOCK WAI
2H NO SHIELD: OMG WAAAH WAAAH ARCHERS SPAM AND 1H SPAM TOO THEY NUB I TOO PRO
2H SHIELD: OMG ARCHERS OP FORCE ME USE SHIELD AND SPEND MONEY FOR WEAPON WHY
ARCHERS: OMG YOU GUYS STOP CRYING LIKE WE HAVE A CHANCE IN MELEE IF YOUR ANY GOOD
CROSSBOWMEN: OMG YOU GUYS STOP CRYING WE SHOOT AND RELOAD FOR ****
Fist-fighters: We're the only people without any complaints cause unlike the others, only people who care about playing instead of playing to win in every underhand way possible will play one of us. Let's have a tea party.

    Unhappy with Online Play

Servers with good ping are insanely hard to find in this region. I've been dealing with 200+ ping here. That said, I actually love fighting 2 handers, as do others. OP, try my style for a while; may help. And personally, I'm beginning to like the 2handed is OP view, because it encourages more people to use them. Not a lot of vets on the servers I play who know enough to do more than sidestep bolts as I fire.

Firstly, I get three crossbows. If possible, the third crossbow (slot number 3) will be the strongest. Then I get the strongest bolts I can.

Next, I stand where I have a nice clear view, with any luck, only one/two paths leading towards me, and they'll have to approach on level ground.

I fire one shot at them without aiming overmuch. They'll sidestep, that is VERY natural. I switch to the second crossbow. I shoot again. They either sidestep or not. But since at this point having a third crossbow means gimping yourself melee (Trying to beat them back with my fists is ridiculous, yet I had to do it a lot of times. Mixture of kick and punch, and a lot of RUN UNTIL I FIND A CORPSE WITH MELEE WEAPONS).....

You know, when you fire two crossbow bolts at someone from two different crossbows, and begin reloading, they don't expect you to finish reloading in time. Usually around now, their 2hand begins to chamber as they get close.

And usually around now, I whip out my third crossbow halfway, and get in a free shot. Note: The fact that aiming must be damn lucky and good is the main reason they have to approach from level ground, aiming high/low quickly is beyond me.

And when I run out of bolts? Go around, find dead body, take weapon. If you die, repeat the shooting.

Note: They usually do wise up to your tactics after some time, but even then, evading 3 crossbow bolts in rapid succession is kinda iffy. Tends to make them go OH ****, at least, on the server I play.

any plans to ever make infantry not completely useless?

    Remmik 说:
because theres absolutely no reason to ever use anything other than heavy cavalry and archers. Kingdom of Rhodoks is a joke faction, even when my army is made up completely of Sergeants and Sharpshooters, unless i turn down the damage they take.

Er, what. Maybe it happens to be the fact I have AI turned up to as high as it can go, if it affects my own troops, but I'm at max difficulty and Rhodoks are just fine. The sergeants I form into one large mass, and if any calvary unit is stupid enough to charge against them, once the first wave of calvary is stopped by the human wall, the subsequent waves lose momentum and are quickly surrounded and butchered. Meanwhile, for infantry, my sergeants stay put, but my sharpshooters have fun turning the enemies into pincushions; really, the way AI shoots into a fighting group and hits their target, no worries..

Though when it comes to spearmen, I don't like to use them... Usually if I do, I reassign them as calvary and use them as cannon fodder via F1 F1.
  13. waggywags

is it just me or Rhodoks is annoyingly overpowered?

Rhodoks overpowered? That's a nice thought... But really, no. How can you -lose- to -any- army? Every faction has a specific unit that counters another faction's specific unit on differing types of terrain. IE: My Rhodok army of 5 denar per crossbowman, I got 80 of them. In a flat area, I would lose to all heavily armored calvary but win against all lightly defended/moderately defended infantry. In a hilly area, I would win against heavily armored calvary but lose to infantry if I'm on a hill, if I'm not.. You get my drift?

    1) First, choose where you want to fight, not be a bloody idiot who tries to place archers in a thick forest or something as stupid.
    2) Then, look at the area they're appearing from and decide if you should meet them head on or soften them up with ranged.
    3) ???
    4) Profit!

How much is charisma and persuasion worth investing into

I would say it depends. If you want to rule your own kingdom, you should get it for sure, persuasion to help in dealing with lords, charisma for big armies, yadayada. If you want to serve as a vassal, you can largely ignore it, IMHO, since all I do is fight and fight.
  15. waggywags

What's the science behind hitting people who don't see you in mounted combat?

    Suggestion:
    1) Get a horse you are comfortable with.
Go to singleplayer, pick a horse, and choose one whose speed isn't too fast but isn't as slow as molasses. Singleplayer and multiplayer horses are much similar, unless you modded them.

    2) Get a weapon you are comfortable with.
To hit someone while on horseback, ideally you should hit them with the very tip of your weapon for insane damage. In your case, you seem to favor spears; anything about 90 reach will do, so just keep practicing in singleplayer.

    3) ???
    4) Profit!

TLDR: Go to singleplayer, cheat enabled, get horse and weapon, cheat health as you try to kill them all with the weapon of choice on max difficulty. That'll give you plenty of practice.
