you get what... +10rep with the one getting the fief and -1 with everyone else? so, if you have more than 10 vassals, everybody will hate you after some time...

its not that bad. without melee resistance, you can quickly storm the castle and kill the ranged units in hand to hand combat.
i never simply let my troops charge in. this only creates choke points. i tell them to follow me, run deep into the enemy castle and THEN tell them to charge. this way my troops can swarm and surround the enemy.

this worked pretty good until now.

there is a treasury feature that comes with the diplomacy mod iirc. but you need a fief and a minister for that.

well.. its not really a quest... its just.. i simply want to do this.

i am still very early in this game and i am only a simple ashigaru soldier in the great lords army. so i have no companions and cash is somewhat tight. the prisoner is my great lord who let himself get caught in superior numbers.
so i just thought, i'd free him to get good relations.
i have no problems killing the guards with my naginata while running backwards, it simply takes too long for the lord to survive.

i'll try and talk a village elder into setting fire in a village and be more reckless when fighting.

yeah. YOU can do such things.
but the AI can not AI controlled swadian knights on foot simply are bad.
i never saw swadia (re)conquer a single city once in all my playtime.

swadians are unmatched in the field because of their knights.
sadly, this is worthless in sieges. you don't even need huscarls, normal (endgame) infantry is pounding the unmounted knights in the ground.
so swadias only chance is to catch the enemy on the move. and the AI seems too dumb to use this advantage..

i haven't tried many mods yet. but (for me) the best so far is Gekokujo. i just like the setting and aesthetics.
clash of kings is interresting, but somehow just more of the same?
and TLD is... different. i dont know how to put it.. its just not for me.

i just let them come to me. position your archers in range so that they can shoot at the defenders. wait outside with your infantry until the first wave pours out.
never let your troops run wild. pull them back and rally them every once in a time. especially at choke points. again, wait until no more defenders are coming out, then charge together.

after some hours playing as my own ruler, i think i am not fitted being a king

i hate maintaining relations and politics, keeping all my lords happy and help them defending my realm (because they are still useless). i have too much land to maintain on my own (all of swadia plus some nord and rhodok castles), defending it against enemy raids AND conquer new lands.
sure, i could just sweep over the map and take one after another. i have a big top tier army and a large garrison to replenish lost forces. but i like the slower playstyle. training up more forces and helping the economy of my cities.

i think being king sounds better than it actually is.
you have to deal with stupid vassals, vassals getting angry when giving out fiefs, politics and relations... blergh.
its nice if you are satisfied with only a small kingdom and 3 or 4 vassals. but any more and it is more work than fun.

anyway, just my 2cts

i kept wrecking enemy lords for a while with my swadian knights. but as the rhodoks finally took ryibelet keep, i saw my chance. i took all the huscarls and sharpshooters i was able to command and left the nords.

now i am my own king, owning ryibelet and suno so far. and even the first north lord defected and knocked at my door.
now i have to decide, should i keep expanding..? haringhod and vyincourd seem weak enough to take... or should i try to make peace with the rodoks to rebuild my forces and garrisons and grind some rep with my villages...
