Steam keeps thinking the game is running after exiting

I'm seeing the same thing. Are you using any mods? This started happening to me yesterday (the first day I started using mods) so I'm not sure if it is the latest beta branch or the mods that is the problem.

Does it feel like you HAVE to execute people?

So every single time I'm trying to siege a town, like 10 people show up and ambush me with their peasant armies. The same group will come back before I'm even finished sieging that town. It turns sieging a town with 250 guards into a 30 minute endeavor.

This is my experience as well. Once TW made execution penalties more severe, I downloaded the mod on nexus that lowers the prisoner escape chance. Now I just capture the lords and throw them into a dungeon.

If I see that one kingdom is getting too strong, I control the snowballing myself by a) declaring war on the strong kingdom and start capturing their lords and b) release the lords of their enemies from my dungeons.

So far I've been able to grow my small kingdom this way without one kingdom getting too strong and manipulating the system in this way is quite fun. I wish there were more diplomacy options that would allow this to be done in a less cheesy way. I think weaker kingdoms should inherently all work together to undermine stronger kingdoms in much the same way.

Why do my Noble prisoners keep escaping so easily ?

I think there should be a mechanism for lords to escape from battle.

Lord AI could be smarter during battles and it could be based on lord personality. Once a lord sees the battle is going south, the lord starts fleeing from the battle and if they reach the edge, they get away. Lords could also keep a small group of elite cavalry by their side at all times to help aide in this escape process. Currently the lords all seem to behave the same way - just chilling in the middle of their troop blob and charging nearby enemies.

This would probably need some thought when lords are facing overwhelming odds - for example, your party of 200 horse archers has chased down their little party of 50 empire recruits. In this case, the enemy lord should attempt to flee immediately (unless they are a headstrong idiot) but the map should be large enough (or the parties start close enough to each other) that the player has a chance to run down the enemy lord before they can escape from the map. This would make it beneficial for the player to have a super fast horse and high riding skill to improve the chances of catching and downing the fleeing lord.

Currently with battles resulting in a capture/kill of a lord 100% of the time, downing a lord in battle just feels insignificant. And because of the snowball problem, the options after battle are all terrible.

    1. Release them, they come back the next day with a new army.
    2. Capture them. They escape the next day, and are back the next with a new army.
    3. Execute them, watch 5 straight minutes of relation loss notifications, and ruin your chances for recruitment the rest of the game.

If it was harder to catch lords, then we could have more permanent options after they are actually caught. Capturing them should be more permanent, and placement in a dungeon even more permanent. And please - just let us execute with smaller penalties. Surely the whole world can't have that big of a problem with some lord they never met on the other side of the world having his head lopped off?

    My kingdom declaring war randomly

Could it be that the displayed notification is backward? It may actually be that other kingdoms are declaring war on me, but the notification says "[my kingdom] has declared war on Battania." for example. Either way it seems to happen constantly and randomly. But I do question whether the notification is accurate because it doesn't seem that any of my companions are doing anything to start a war. (I have no vassals, only companion parties.)

    My kingdom declaring war randomly

I'm seeing this exact same thing. I have a small kingdom with a single castle, some caravans, and some companion led parties. All of my companion parties are at my castle or patrolling my lands and I get random notifications that my kingdom has declared war on the Kuzhaits. I immediately find a Kuzhait noble, pay them 45k for peace, and the very next day my kingdom randomly declares war on them again. Another 45k to make peace - again. This feels like a bug.

    forced not to kill generals

I feel like there are no good options after defeating lords in battle. At first it felt like an accomplishment, when I finally had an army capable of defeating other lords in battle. But after playing for a while, it seems pointless and repetitive.

    1. Release the lord. Get a small boost to relations, but the same lord is back on your door step the next day.
    2. Capture the lord. Because of how quickly they get released, this is essentially the same as 1, just delayed and without the boost to relations.
    3. Execute the lord, watch 5 straight minutes of relation decrease notifications, and be hated across the entire world.

I feel like I either have to become hated (which makes recruitment impossible after a while) or fight the same battles over and over again. As a small independent kingdom, it's near impossible to successfully maintain a siege for long enough when doom stack armies re-appear in a matter of days. Execution seems like the only way to make any progress in wars as a small kingdom.
